My Goblin System : Levelling up with my SSS Class Devouring skill

Chapter 183

They fell into silence, but it was comfortable now. Seraphine continued running her fingers through Satou's hair, and he closed his eyes, enjoying the sensation despite his exhaustion.

"Your partners," Seraphine finally said. "Lyra and Jessica. They won't mind if you add me?"

"They'll want to meet you first," Satou replied. "Make sure you're not trying to manipulate or corrupt me. But if you're genuine, if you show them the person you've shown me right now, they'll accept you. They both understand I care about people easily and form connections quickly."

"I've never had to get approval from someone's existing partners before," Seraphine admitted. "Usually I'm the one doing the approving when I add someone to my collection."

"See, that phrasing—'my collection'—that's what we need to move away from," Satou said gently. "People aren't collectibles. They're individuals with their own agency. If we do this, I'm not joining your collection. You're joining my family."

"Family," Seraphine repeated, testing the phrase. "I like that better than collection. It implies choice rather than possession."

"Exactly."

Seraphine was quiet again, thinking. Then she said something that surprised even herself.

"I want to try. I want to be part of your family. I want to learn how to be genuine instead of manipulative. I want..." She paused, then finished quietly: "I want to be someone you'd choose to protect not because you're heroic, but because you actually care about me specifically."

Satou opened his eyes, looking up at her. "I already do care about you specifically. Why do you think I threw myself at The Reaper when I saw him about to execute you? It wasn't just about being heroic. It was about not being able to stand the thought of you dying."

"Even after I tried to seduce and manipulate you?"

"You were doing what you thought you needed to do to survive," Satou replied. "I don't hold that against you. What matters is what you do now. And right now, you're being honest with me. That's what I care about."

Seraphine felt something crack inside her chest—not painfully, but like ice thawing after a long winter. Tears started falling again, but this time she didn't try to stop them.

"I don't deserve you," she whispered.

"That's not your decision to make," Satou replied. "I get to decide who I care about, and I've decided I care about you. The real you. Not the mask. Not the demon lord persona. You."

He reached up again, wiping tears from her face. "That someone is you, Seraphine. Not the mask. Not the demon lord. You."

Seraphine leaned down, pressing her forehead against his, her tears falling onto his face. "If we do this—if I try to be part of your life—I'm going to mess up. I'm going to fall back into manipulation patterns because that's what I know. I'm going to struggle with being genuine because I've been wearing masks for so long."

"That's okay," Satou assured her. "We'll figure it out together. As long as you're trying, as long as you're honest about when you're struggling, we can work through it."

"You're far too understanding for someone who nearly died today," Seraphine said, but there was warmth in her voice now. Affection.

"I'm too tired to be anything but understanding," Satou admitted. "Ask me again tomorrow when I've recovered, and I might be more demanding about boundaries and expectations."

Seraphine laughed softly. "I look forward to that conversation. It'll be refreshing to have someone set clear boundaries instead of just falling under my corruption."

She shifted slightly, adjusting so she was lying beside him on the bed instead of just cradling his head in her lap. It was more comfortable for both of them, and it brought them closer together.

"This feels strange," Seraphine admitted. "Lying beside someone without any ulterior motive. Without planning my next move or calculating how to increase their devotion. Just... being here because I want to be."

"Get used to it," Satou said, his eyes closing again as exhaustion pulled at him. "This is what real relationships feel like. Comfortable. Safe. No need for games or manipulation."

"I think I could get used to this," Seraphine murmured, watching his face as he began drifting toward sleep again. "I think I want to get used to this."

She pressed a gentle kiss to his forehead—not seductive, not calculated, just a simple gesture of affection.

Satou smiled without opening his eyes. "That's a good start."

They lay together in the quiet of the medical facility, both of them battered and exhausted but alive. Outside, the Fallen Spires was beginning to rebuild. Inside, something else was being built—something more fragile but potentially more valuable.

Trust. Genuine connection. The possibility of something real.

Seraphine watched Satou's breathing even out as he fell back into healing sleep, and she found herself smiling—genuinely smiling, not the practiced seductive expression she usually wore.

"Thank you," she whispered to his sleeping form. "For seeing me. For refusing to let me hide behind masks. For being willing to take a chance on the person underneath."

She settled in beside him, her body pressed against his, her head on his shoulder. For the first time in three hundred years, Seraphine fell asleep next to someone without any ulterior motive.

Just companionship. Just connection. Just the possibility of something real.

And it felt better than any successful seduction ever had.

Several Hours Later

Satou woke again, this time feeling significantly better. His mana had regenerated to about 40%, and his wounds had healed that he could move without immediate pain.

He became aware of warmth pressed against his side and looked over to find Seraphine asleep beside him, her face peaceful in a way he'd never seen before. Her corrupted wings were folded against her back, still damaged but beginning to regenerate. Her arm was draped across his chest possessively, even in sleep.

For a moment, he just watched her, seeing the vulnerability she only showed when unconscious. This close, he could see the faint scars from battles centuries old. Could see the way her face relaxed when she wasn't maintaining her seductive mask.

She was beautiful—but more than that, she was interesting. Complex. Someone with three hundred years of experiences and traumas and carefully built walls that were just beginning to crack.

Seraphine's eyes opened slowly, meeting his. For a moment, she looked confused, then memory returned and something like panic crossed her face.
