The Crowned Greed: Transmigrated into a Demonic Dragon

Chapter 115: Poor Soldiers

"It's finally over…"

In the treehouse, Dante let out a breath of relief as he watched the giants retreat.

Since the fight started, his heart hadn't stopped beating faster than any recorded heartbeat on Earth.

No, seriously!

Maybe because of his vitality, or maybe because it was a demonic heart, but Dante's heart truly worked in an unnatural way. It was like a silent engine!

Other than him, no one else would have noticed that it was beating. The demons were related to the abyss and silence, so the heart's sounds barely left Dante's body.

Thankfully, everything was over now.

"But it's only temporary. The giants purposely prioritized attacking the supplies, and the remaining supplies wouldn't last so long. Additionally, the giants are likely observing the camp in case anyone tries to sneak outside to hunt some beasts."

Unlike the legends on Earth, the giants in this world were no different from humans in terms of intelligence.

Instead of solving everything with brute force, they decided to let the humans starve in the camp. They planned everything and even knew the exact location of the supplies somehow.

What was more shocking was how they succeeded in making a surprise attack.

'The camp is located on top of a hill. If the giants used a normal route, they'd have been seen the moment they stepped into the hill's range.' Dante thought deeply as he remembered the information that Elizabeth had received recently.

According to Michael and some soldiers who were observing the surroundings and were lucky enough to survive and tell the story, the giants literally emerged through some gates.

They ignored the distance entirely and appeared out of nowhere. The current theories involved using an artifact or relic related to cutting distance, using an ability that allowed teleporting between two points instantly, or having a giant who had the Space Aspect.

Of course, the latter was less likely to be true, as the people with the Space Aspect were extremely rare. If they had such a person, they'd have sent them to more crucial missions.

But if a person with the Space Aspect was truly involved, that would be considered a real problem, as that would mean that there was something special about Elizabeth's camp.

"No, it's very unlikely for something to be in this camp specifically." Dante shook his head, rejecting that possibility: "Similar attacks had been happening in the other camps as well. It's not a one-time special case."

Regardless, the camp had received significant damage in this attack. The reason for the attack wasn't important at this point.

There were a lot of losses on both sides, but the humans were now forced to stand in a passive position.

They couldn't leave the camp and ignore their duties without receiving an order to do so. And it was very unlikely as, even if they got permission to leave, they couldn't do that when the giants were lurking around them.

They could only stay in the camp until the Holy Kingdom sent support, which might take a lot of time considering the condition of the other camps.

"It's really a problem…" Dante sighed: "After losing their largest storage, surviving a few months would be a struggle."

Again, because of the giants, the soldiers couldn't recklessly leave the camp in search of beasts to eat and refill their supplies.

They were going to starve for some time this way.

Ironically, the decrease in their numbers after a lot of soldiers died would help them to survive longer with the remaining amount of food.

Unfortunately, there was a big drawback.

"Ignoring the falling morale of the soldiers, the soldiers will now have to keep watching for more time and sleep for less time. There won't be any time to rest, and with reduced meals, they'll be strained mentally."

For a moment, Dante felt some empathy for him. He himself knew how bad the feeling of barely eating anything for weeks with a lack of rest and sleep was.

But as quickly as that emotion emerged, he dismissed it and shook his head: "It's not my problem. I'll make Fafnir leave the camp secretly to get some food for Elizabeth, the others can only rely on themselves!"

Dante only cared about Elizabeth. He didn't care whether the Holy Kingdom would lose or win, nor did he care about any other human.

Even if he wanted to help them, Fafnir wouldn't be able to get a lot of food secretly. Trying to bring a lot of food would be a risk that Dante wasn't willing to take.

"The only problem I might face is convincing her to eat." Dante chuckled as he thought of how she might refuse to eat for the others: "But I'll find a way… hopefully."

BAM!

Dante closed the chaos magic book and wiped his eyes, feeling some traces of blood.

"That fucking book… I always get distracted and forget the pain when I read it." Dante sighed as he left the empty library, heading toward the training room.

He was starting to notice that the pain was becoming normal to him, which was a small problem.

He still felt pain, but his automatic response to it became weaker and weaker with time. If the old Dante would have pulled his hand away at touching flames, the current one might first look at the flames to know what caused that sudden pain before pulling his hand away.

And now, simply focusing a bit on Fafnir's senses and having random thoughts was enough to make him ignore the pain of his eyes.

Once Dante reached the training room, he saw two poorly-made dummies. They had the shape of a human, and it was made of wood and rocks.

That was what Dante chose to make to test his attacks, which… made Greed chuckle for some reason.

"I mean… maybe the head is a little big, but it isn't that big!" Dante gritted his teeth before focusing on the things he had to test now.

The book gave him some great insights, and now, it was time to test a few things.

The formation was already activated, allowing Dante to see everything inside the treehouse. It would last for a week if nothing like a random attack occurred.

And previously, he used Shadow Detection to scan the surface.

For now, he was safe to test some chaos magic!
