Chapter 142: See it Through

"Whew, what a match! The winner of the first semi-final, and thus our first finalist in this year's edition of the HCC is...Kaivel Intrix!"

Hm.

I stared down at my right arm, a deep, scorched hole through the middle of my palm, my fingers mangled, blackened bone shards poking out across my wrist and half my forearm, and my skin and flesh severely seared.

This is excruciatingly painful, is it possible to heal such a serious injury?

<Yes, an Ace Healer should have no trouble healing you>

I see, that's good.

I wouldn't be able to fight nearly as well if I lost my arm. Hm, then again, prosthetic technology is highly advanced in this era.

If I get a prosthetic arm fitted with hidden weapons, I-...

<Do not discard your real arm so casually>

Yes, I suppose you're right.

Hm? Some event staff are rushing over with stretchers.

Ariella has lost consciousness, so she certainly needs help to get treated, but it isn't necessary for me.

I can still walk perfectly fine, so-...huh?

Oh, looks like I've collapsed. I can't move. I stand corrected, so to speak.

The event staff helped Ariella and I onto the stretchers before rushing us back into the stadium, taking us to a medical room, where a man was seated.

Enrage wore off right as the event staff took me into the room, my state of mind returning to normal...

.

.

.

.

.

F-Fuck...! This really hurts, h-holy shit!

"Wow, that's bad. Looks like I'll have to cut off the damaged part and then regrow it anew. Don't worry, it won't hurt, I'll dull the pain and fix you up before you know it," Remarked the Healer, as he took a look at my arm.

"Thanks, that'd be great," I nodded shakily, doing my best to bear the pain.

"Alright, then, here I go...[Greater Anesthesia]," He chanted as he placed the Mana Orb at the end of his staff on my damaged arm, it had a white handle and the Mana Orb was white too, as is the case with all Healers.

I winced in pain, before easing up and relaxing as the pain steadily faded before disappearing completely, my arm completely numb.

He then picked up a blade and amputated my forearm, cutting through just below the elbow, blood pouring out as he severed it, before chanting as he raised his staff over the stump...

"[Regeneration]."

I stared in fascination as my arm grew back rapidly, the bones forming first, before the nerves, muscles and blood vessels extended out around the bones, and finally, my skin.

In a matter of seconds, my arm was back to normal, I raised it in bemusement as I opened and closed my fist a couple of times.

Even though I already knew that it's possible to regrow limbs with Healing Magic, actually seeing and feeling it in action is pretty surreal.

The Healer then proceeded to heal the rest of my injuries, a sigh of relief escaping my lips as the pain all over my body faded away.

Hm, although...

"Hey, is it just in my head, or does my arm feel kinda weird?" I frowned, as I moved my right arm around.

"Oh, that's perfectly normal. When regrowing lost limbs, the regrown limb can feel a bit off for a few hours. It'll settle soon, and it shouldn't affect your movements or anything," He informed me with a smile, as he began heading over to Ariella to heal her.

Man, really wish I had the ability to heal myself.

My natural healing has improved a lot, but it's certainly not capable of regrowing lost limbs, it isn't strong enough to be effective against anything more serious than a shallow cut, and even that takes a few minutes to heal.

Hm, what was this guy's name, again?

I've seen him in ads and stuff, and I'm pretty sure he's in the same Guild as Rex, the Demonsbane Guild.

Let's take a look with Appraisal:

Power Level: 543,300

Potential: 588,000

Woah, he's got pretty much every single Healing Spell in his arsenal, and he's fulfilled a significant percentage of his Potential. As far as Healers go, he's just about as high level as they get.

He had light brown hair that was neatly slicked back with a few thin locks of hair falling over his forehead, his eyes were a slight, dull green, he had a pale complexion with a lot of freckles across his cheeks and the bridge of his nose, a small birthmark below his left eye, and he had a strong, fairly muscular build.

"So, uh, you're from the Demonsbane Guild, right?" I asked him, as he finished healing Ariella, who was still unconscious.

"Yes, that's right," He nodded as he stretched his arms up, before adding, "Why do you ask?"

"Oh, I know someone from your Guild, Rex, but I couldn't remember if you were from the Demonsbane Guild too, that's all," I replied sheepishly.

"Rex? Hm...ah, I get it now. The confidential request he got from the Chairwoman, that must have had something to do with you, didn't it? Was he training you or something?" Responded Cameron curiously.

"Yeah, uh...something like that."

"Huh. Can't believe he agreed to something like that, it's not like him at all. Oh, and speaking of the Demonsbane Guild, seems your next opponent will be another of our Aces, and an Arcane Hunter, like Rex.

Fair warning though, she's a lot stronger than Rex is, though thanks to his Magic, she's never actually defeated him," He remarked, before nodding at a screen at the back of the room as muffled cheers rang out across the stadium.

Hm?

Oh, crap, my next opponent's match is over, I didn't watch any of her previous fights. Well, it's fine, there's a half hour break before the final, so while I wait, I'll watch the highlights from her matches to prepare.

I've come this far, all the way to the final of the tournament, and now, I need to see it through.

I'm not going to be satisfied with finishing as the runner-up, I'll be gunning to win the whole damned thing...
