Chapter 221: Diversion (Part 6)

Point-of-View: Rexon Wards

———————————————————————————

"D-Damn it, hold still, you bastard!" Snapped my opponent, as he swung a sword at me, which phased right through.

"I literally am, though, I'm not moving a muscle," I sighed wistfully, as he slashed at my face, getting the same result as the blade phased right through me.

It's cold tonight, too cold...I should've worn a jacket, the cold is making me sleepy.

Wait...did I lock the door when I left home? I don't remember. Ciel probably checked, but-...

"Take this, [Mid Accel Wind Slash]!" Yelled my opponent, as he unfurled a rapid downward slash at the top of my head, which phased right through my body, before the blade struck the ground with a sharp clang.

He then backed away while firing a barrage of dark energy blasts at me, getting visibly, increasingly frustrated as the blasts harmlessly passed right through me, devastating the ground behind me.

Hm, who is he, again?

He looks vaguely familiar, I think. Not sure which Sanctuary he's from. Evidently, he's a Saber with the Wind Attribute.

Well, whatever...I guess it doesn't really matter.

More importantly, I wanna go home, I don't want to fight right now, it's so late.

This is such a pain, things have been way too hectic lately. Some sleep sounds great right about now.

It's certainly that time, it's almost midnight, and I-...hm?

Huh. That's a big ball of Negative Energy, it's almost as big as Ciel's Explosion Nova. It's a good thing I don't need to dodge...because that looks like it'd be a huge pain to dodge.

I'd have to run so fast, but that might not be enough, so I'd have to leap too, and-...oh, he's launching it at me.

Here it comes.

"Let's see y-you survive this, you b-bastard!"

Yeah, you'll see exactly that. That isn't going to do anything to me.

As the large sphere of dark energy engulfed me and collided against the ground, I felt myself starting to sink lower...hm, the energy must be tearing the ground apart, carving out a crater.

Well, that's fine.

I can't fall through the ground unless I actively try to. When I turn my entire body intangible, a small forcefield forms below the soles of my feet, so I'm essentially hovering about a centimeter off the ground.

I can't ascend with it though, but I can bring myself to a halt in mid-air if I'm falling. That's really tricky though, so I'm hoping I never end up in a situation where I need to use it.

Oh, looks like the sphere of Negative Energy is starting to peter out.

As the dark energy faded, footsteps echoed out as my opponent approached the edge of the crater I was in the middle of, his eyes widening as he peered down and met my gaze, gritting his teeth with a furious look on his face.

"It should be obvious by now that there's nothing you can do to hurt me. Just surrender, it'd save me a lot of trouble...and it'll save your life too," I reasoned with a sigh.

He was quiet for a moment, before trembling as he clenched his fists, an enraged look on his face.

Hm. Looks like I said the wrong thing. How annoying...I don't think he's going to give up.

Sure enough, he didn't listen to me...he let out a deafening, frustrated roar before leaping into the crater, sprinting towards me and leaping forward, driving his sword at my chest.

Naturally, it passed through me, before I turned around as he landed behind me, before he spun across and whipped his blade across at me.

I sighed as it passed through my neck, before he unfurled a vicious barrage of strikes and slashes with his blade, to no avail, of course.

With each failed attack, he grew more and more aggravated, his face bright red with anger and frustration. Hm, he's pretty fast, I'll give him that, at least.

Suddenly, he let out a gutteral yell before firing out a blast of Negative Energy at me from his left hand, the attack passing through my chest, before I sighed and lunged forward, passing right through him and slipping behind him, phasing my left blade through his neck before turning it tangible, a choked gasp ringing out.

I yanked the blade out with a twist, blood gushing out of the back of his neck as he shakily stumbled forward, letting out an incoherent garble as he spun around and raised his blade, blood pouring out of his mouth.

Come on, he can still move? That's a fatal wound, he should be dropping dead instead of continuing to fight...what a pain.

I sighed as I shot towards him, his blade phasing through my head as he swung it down, before I slashed his throat open with a swing of my left blade, while simultaneously plunging my right blade into his heart, a shudder of agony erupting across his body.

As he collapsed onto his knees, I phased my right blade through his forehead, before turning it tangible inside his brain, his body seizing up sharply before going limp.

His eyes rolled back as his arms slumped to his sides, his sword falling out of his grasp and hitting the ground with a clatter, before he fell over and collapsed against the dirt with a thud.

Okay, it's finally over, I-...

"Good, you're done, you certainly took your time. But there's still a lot more work to be done...follow my directions, there's another rampaging Ace not too far away, you should be able to get there in three or four minutes if you hurry."

"What? Nooo...," I groaned, before adding, "Come on, man, can't someone else do it?"

"EVERYONE is doing it, but it isn't enough. You can't afford to slack off right now, not when the situation is so dire, a lot of people are being killed. Now, quit whining and hurry up."

So harsh, I don't even know this person. Fine, I guess I don't have a choice. This is such a pain...
