Chapter 246: Calamity Level Dungeon (Part 4)

"I sense three Monsters up ahead, all Critical Levels!" Called out the Detector, as we made our way through the hundred and first floor of the Dungeon.

We'd just cleared the hundredth floor a few minutes ago, facing off against a large group of Dragonoids. And it looks like we're finally about to come across some different Monsters.

Most likely Wyverns, but we can't rule out the possibility of a different Critical Level species laying in wait for us.

It's been quite a while since that time I fought that Water Wyvern during my Freelance Hunting days, it was a pretty tough fight back then...let's see how I do now.

"I hope it is Wyverns ahead, big Monsters are more fun to blow up," Remarked Ciel with a gleam in her eyes.

"No, big Monsters are a pain. I have to cut them so much," Sighed Rex apprehensively.

Yeah, I guess larger Monsters are a worse match-up for him, since his Magic is more defense-orientated than offense.

"Wait, can't you, like, jump inside a Monster's body and hack up their insides?" Suddenly suggested Aria.

"Oh, that's exactly what he does, but it sometimes takes a while to hit something vital that way. Naturally, it's pitch-black darkness inside a body, so he just slashes around blindly until he falls back out. In other words, he has to keep jumping back in until they're dead," Ciel informed her with a wry smile.

"Then, why not just turn the soles of your feet tangible while inside a Monster's body? That way, you wouldn't have to keep jumping back in," Spoke up Isla.

"Tried that in the past, and it can get painful. Stepped right onto some stomach acid one time. It hurt a lot. And I can kinda hover in mid-air, but it's really tricky to maintain consciously," Replied Rex with a sigh.

"Wait, you mean you can fly?" Chimed in Aria in fascination.

"No, when he turns himself fully intangible, his feet float up off the ground slightly. But I've never seen him ascend through the air using that, so I figured he either can't or it's too difficult to pull off," I explained.

"Hm? Did I tell you that? I don't remember," Responded Rex uncertainly.

"Hold on, does that mean you noticed it on your own? He barely gets a centimeter off the ground, so most people never notice," Added Ciel in surprise.

"Well, I did spar against him for a while, and at some point, I wondered how he wasn't falling straight through the ground. And I noticed that his feet weren't actually touching the ground when I took a closer look, I could see the shadow below."

"Scary...another reason I'm glad I never have to spar against you again," Muttered Rex in response.

"Look sharp, everyone, the Monsters are thirty meters ahead," The Detector informed us.

Alright, time to focus up.

As we continued onward, I drew out Desecrator as the Monsters came into sight, a trio of Wyverns. The one I fought before was a Water Wyvern, all three of these ones look different.

One was covered in icy white scales, its fangs and claws looked like shards of ice, and it had a frosty mist flowing around it. Presumably a Frost Wyvern.

The second one had vibrant green scales, and unlike the others, its wings were feathered, and it had feathers at the end of its tail too. Based on its appearance, it's a Wind Wyvern.

And finally, the third one, it was covered in fiery, bright red scales, and based on the streaks of flames flowing out of the corners of its jaws as it narrowed its eyes at us and growled, it's a Fire Wyvern.

<You know you can just use Appraisal to find out what species they are, don't you?>

Yeah, I know.

"Alright, Aria and I will take on one each. Ciel, Rex, you two take on the third one...Damien, cast your buffs on them," I instructed, before adding as I cracked my neck and stepped forward, "Any preferences as to which one you guys want to fight?"

"Rex and I will go with the Wind Wyvern," Replied Ciel, brief glows surrounding her and Rex's bodies as Damien cast his enchantments on them.

"Then, I'll go with the Frost Wyvern," Smiled Aria, flames swirling around her fists.

"Guess that leaves the Fire Wyvern to me. Let's go," I remarked, before the four of us shot forward.

Keira and the Fire Mage fired out a rapid volley of Spells to scatter the large Monsters, before Isla swiftly spread them out further by teleporting them.

"<Command: Don't Move>," I chanted as I closed in on the Fire Wyvern, coming to a sliding halt in front of it across the fleshy ground as it froze in its tracks.

I placed my left hand on its torso, before unleashing a relentless barrage of Mana Pulses in rapid succession, cracks spreading out across the Monster's crimson scales as several spots across its skin ruptured, blood spraying out and splattering the ground.

I sprang back as it managed to break free of the effect of Command and swiped the claws at the end of its right wing at me, before I swiftly manifested Drain as it snapped open its jaws and spewed out a out a blazing blast of flames, swallowing it up before raising my left index finger and firing out a piercing beam of Negative Energy.

The beam struck the middle of the Fire Wyvern's chest, drilling in a few inches before petering out, a thin trickle of blood running down its torso as it snarled viciously before flying up with a powerful flap of its wings and spinning around rapidly, whipping its tail towards me.

Hm, my barrage of Mana Pulses definitely did a significant bit of damage, which means...it's moving mostly on sheer fucking willpower right now.

Impressive.

As its tail closed in on me, I chanted to manifest Devour, snapping the shadowy jaws shut and tearing off the end of its tail, blood gushing out as the Monster snarled in pain, before I raised Drain in front of myself while backing away as it unleashing a scorching wave of flames at me from its mouth, a burnt stench wafting out as the flames charred the fleshy ground.

Hm, that beam I fired didn't have as much force as I'd have liked, it was strong enough against the Dragonoids, but it didn't do any serious damage to this Fire Wyvern...guess I still need to work on my mastery over Negative Energy.

Alright, then, let's try something a bit different...
