Chapter 333: Aria's Birthday (Part 2)

"You sure you're fine with just staying indoors and watching a movie?" I asked Aria, her head on my shoulder.

"Hm? Yeah, this is perfect...don't worry so much, Kai. I really appreciate how much you're trying to make this day special, but we don't have to go out and do something fancy to make it special.

I feel so relaxed, comfy and at ease right now, there's nowhere else I'd rather be," She assured me with a relaxed smile, before leaning in and kissing my cheek as she added, "I love you."

"Love you too," I smiled, putting my arm around her as she snuggled up against me.

It was a couple of hours later, around 1:30 PM, and we were currently relaxing in bed, chilling under the covers and watching a romcom from my previous era.

Probably won't have lunch for a while yet, considering how much she ate for breakfast, and I ate a good amount too.

And we were currently snacking on some chips, so yeah, we probably won't feel like having another full meal for at least a couple more hours.

"You know, if you think about it, some of these old movies are kinda fucked up. Like this one, the woman's not satisfied with her current relationship, and then meets a guy that she's got great chemistry with and hooks up with him. It's portrayed as romantic, but...she's literally cheating.

They haven't shown that her boyfriend has done anything wrong, like he isn't abusive or anything, so there's nothing to justify her cheating on him. She should've broken up with him first, before getting with the other guy," Frowned Aria, as the credits began rolling.

"Huh...yeah, now that I think about it, that was a pretty common plot in a lot of romcoms from back then," I realized in bemusement.

"I mean, I did enjoy the movie, I just feel like it doesn't send a good message," She replied with a wry smile.

"Yeah, no arguments there. So, what do you wanna do next? Watch something else?" I suggested, as I fed her a chip.

"Hm...nah, let's just relax for a bit. Mind if I ask what you've got planned for the rest of the day?" She asked me curiously.

"Sorry, can't say, I'd prefer to surprise you," I responded with a slight smirk.

"Fine, guess I'll have to wait and find out. Oh, by the way, do you have more of those pancakes and fried balls in Treasury? I definitely wanna eat them again sometime," She replied with a grin.

"Yeah, I've got a bit more left. I'm glad you enjoyed them."

"Mhm, they were great! And knowing that you made it specially for me made it even better," She smiled warmly.

That's pretty much how I felt when she made that dinner for me on the night she confessed her feelings.

"Come here," I remarked, pulling her into my arms and giving her a squeeze as I pressed my lips against her forehead.

"I love it when you hold me," She mumbled, as she wrapped her arms around me, before meeting my gaze and kissing me softly.

"And I love holding you," I whispered tenderly, bumping the tip of my nose against hers as I closed my eyes and placed my forehead against hers.

"Mm...you know, it's hard to believe that we've known each other for less than two years. Let's see, we first saw each other at the start of last year, during our orientation at the Academy, but we didn't really talk to each other until our run-in at Decadence, I think that was towards the end of March. It's been a little over...twenty months since then," Mused Aria thoughtfully.

"Wow...yeah, I know what you mean, it feels like we've known each other for way longer than that. And it's only been about a month and a half since we began our relationship," I added in response.

"It's pretty crazy when you think about it, isn't it? Where do you think we'll be five years from now?" She wondered curiously.

"There's no telling what could happen, but so long as you're with me, I'll be just fine," I smiled, before adding as she slid down and laid her head on my lap, "Maybe we'll be married by then."

"Oh, um...yeah, I'd like that," She replied with a bashful smile, as I poked her cheeks playfully.

"You seemed surprised by that," I responded with a laugh.

"I mean, I have thought about it, of course, but I figured that'd be way in the future, so I didn't expect you to bring it up. And just so we're clear, it's definitely something I want," She remarked, as she took hold of my hand.

"Then, we're in agreement. So, it's just a question of when."

"Hm...I mean, will anything really change besides our labels changing from boyfriend and girlfriend to husband and wife? Like, besides that, our dynamic will probably be more or less the same, right?"

"Not sure, it's not like I've ever been married before, after all," I pointed out with a wry smile, before adding, "I gotta say, though, calling you my wife makes me feel...kinda giddy."

"Yeah? Alright, then...when do you wanna get married?" She asked me with a smile.

"Hm, good question. Let's not look too far ahead, how about we just bring it up when it feels right, and go ahead with it when we're both ready?

We're still pretty new into our relationship, after all, so there's no need to rush into anything," I replied after taking a moment to mull it over.

"Yeah, that's true. There's also the matter of the Dungeons and Monsters to consider, depending on how severe things get if and when they appear again, we may have to prioritize our Hunting over our personal lives," She nodded thoughtfully.

Right, there's that too.

It feels like it's been ages since our last raid, I kinda feel like I'm being lulled into a false sense of security...
