Godfire: The Split Soul

Chapter 77: Ready for What?

"What's going on?" Clara said, staring at the faces of those staring at her as she halted behind Kai's door.

No one answered her; all they did was shake their heads, murmur words only their ears could hear, and walk, descending the staircase, while others also climbed the one leading to the third floor.

Raising a hand to knock on the door, Clara hesitated, turned and tilted her head, wanting to ask them once more, but saw no one standing either behind her or beside her.

When Clara turned back and opened the door, she saw Kai sitting on his bed and staring at the open door as if he knew someone would walk in at that particular time.

She didn't speak when she saw him, but Kai saw the shock flowing through her by reading her facial expression.

"Good morning, Kai. How are you doing?" Clara said as she moved toward the bed and sat beside Kai, who was still staring at her.

Before Kai could respond, he moved his right arm to cover his mouth, but saw a change in Clara's face as his palm covered his mouth.

"What's at the back of your palm?" Clara said, pointing her finger at the arc symbol visible at the back of Kai's palm, but changed her expression when she saw Kai watching her.

"Will you be joining the training courtyard?" she said, standing up and walking toward the window.

Feeling the good air flowing into the room, Clara closed her eyes and smiled, imagining her childhood days and how she and Gray visited the training courtyard whenever there was a match between the soldiers themselves.

Brushing her palms on the stool of the window, Clara's eyes suddenly opened as her index finger brushed onto something that, in her view, shouldn't be at the window.

She opened her eyes wildly, moved a step back, and began sweating as she saw an obsidian dagger resting at the same place her palms moved to, glowing as the morning sun shone on it.

Clara turned, stared at Kai, whose face showed he knew nothing of what Clara had seen, and back at the dagger.

When she turned her gaze back to Kai, she smiled, moved forward, and gave the dagger a steady investigative stare.

Clara brushed her fingers across the sharp edges of the dagger, raised it, then stretched it. It glittered as the ray of the sun shone on it like a mirror, letting everyone walking toward the building stop and awe at the glittering object holding the lady at the open window with white curtains.

"What is that?" Kai said as he stood up from the bed and walked toward the bathroom door, and when he saw Clara still smiling as she turned her gaze to him, he opened the door and entered.

After thirty minutes, Kai walked out, feeling a sweet sensation moving in and out of his body while he cleaned his hair with the blue towel he owned.

Clara stood there, turning the dagger without even turning her gaze and watched Kai as he changed into the black training outfit he saw in his bag as he opened it.

Though there was a wardrobe with a lock, Kai didn't place the bag in it after wearing the dress; he simply pushed it under the bed he had slept on.

"I'm ready," he said after lacing his black and white shoes, the very ones he remembered using since.

Clara turned for the last time, walked toward the locked wardrobe that had its key inserted already and hanging freely, and placed the obsidian dagger in it, then walked toward the door.

Both of them walked out of the room, entered the hallway now filled with lots and lots of people. For Kai, cleaning his bed and room was something he was often described with, so even as he didn't clean the room, it was cleaner than one who always cleans his room after every week.

Being the first day of the fifth month, Clara, Kai, and the others walked toward the large training courtyard, either wearing a training outfit or walking by someone who wore one.

As they reached the building and entered, Kai, who saw himself to be new there, noticed everyone looking and pointing their arms at him.

"Why are they pointing their fingers at me?" Kai said, tilting his confused face toward Clara, who seemed to be happy just walking by the kid.

Turning her gaze toward Kai, Clara's smile increased as she noticed Gray walking in their direction from a far distance.

"You're special; that is why everyone is looking and pointing their fingers at you," she said, bending herself slightly and touching Kai's chin, then pointed her right arm toward the man moving through the crowd and in their direction.

"Gray is coming. He will take you to the dressing room," Clara said, straightening herself and staring at Gray, who was just a few meters away from them.

"Kai, my boy," Gray said as he closed in with them, hugged Clara, then brushed his arm on Kai's hair.

For Kai, he knew it wasn't just a hug Clara gave the man but knew she whispered something into the man's ear.

"Don't forget to give me the result after all the samples have been checked," Gray said as Clara turned toward the exit door.

He turned his gaze toward Kai, who stood there squeezing his eyes as he looked at the man.

"Hope you're ready?" Gray said as he placed a hand on Kai's back and pushed him forward.

'Ready for what, the training?' Kai thought as they moved, snaking through the crowd almost choking the entrance of the building they walked to.

As leaves spun in the air and landed smoothly on the roofs of the building opposite the barracks' wall, figures moved, pulling out the broken sharp metals arranged in the black suitcases and placing them on the white round plastic table.

One after another, they arranged the metals, turning them into a long sword that seemed to be glowing under the sun's gaze.

At the corner of the room, a man with yellow eyes stood there, leaning against the wall and staring at the men arranging the metals into a sword.

He turned, stared at the tall guy also leaning beside him.

"When are we attacking?" the yellow-eyed man said, brushing his arms across his exhausted face.

"Kang, don't rush. The heart of the moment hasn't started beating yet," the tall guy said, grinning.

He moved from the wall and stopped at the window, placed his palms on the tinted glass, and smiled wildly.

"If we strike now, we'll only taste the revenge we want. Let the world naturally open for us; then we can let them see the taste of hell."

The guy said, turning a sharp gaze at the men arranging the metals. And at that instant, not only did Kang feel the power in Marcus's words, but he saw the men shivering as their hands trembled holding the metals and arranging them.

At the far distance away from Bion City, and into the building closer to the forest at the side of Gilgal Village, a young guy and a lady with huge breasts walked inside.

The guy turned, looked around, before entering after the lady. As he closed in with the lady, he kept on wetting his lips as he wet them with saliva.
