Godfire: The Split Soul

Chapter 78: Show Us What've Got!

Cheers of chatter and laughter filled the room as the door opened, revealing the trees outside the building, and Kai and Grey stepped into the room.

With the sight of Gray and the boy beside him, the noise died, followed by a strange stare that made Kai swallow hard. He tilted his gaze, looked at Gray's slightly cold face, and traced his gaze until stopping at the gaze of the guys of the same height as Gray.

Kai scanned the room, tilting his gaze from one person to the other and observing their wide smiles and how their expression changed when they looked back at him.

Kai wasn't in their heads but could predict what they were thinking by just focusing on the strange vibration entering him like pieces of glass grinned and injected into his veins.

Among the men who were as tall as the one he walked by, one sent a great pressure by looking at Kai with his green eye with snake-like pupil.

"Are you ready?" Gray said, stopped and turned toward Kai.

Kai's heart calmed as he finally got the chance to hide himself from the snake-eyed man's stare as Gray drew his attention.

"Ready for…" As Kai began speaking, one of the four men of which the snake-eyed man was part walked toward Kai laughing.

"Good morning, sir. Is he your son? I haven't seen him ever since I graduated," the guy said, saluted Gray, then placed his left palm on Kai's shoulder. He looked at Lieutenant Gray, tilted his gaze at the boy and back at the lieutenant.

"I'm leaving you under his care," Gray said, gesturing from Kai and unto the guy.

'What?!'

Both Kai and the guy's eyes widened as they screamed in their thoughts and stared at each other, and then back at the lieutenant.

"You… wait, sir, you mean this small kid?! What does he have? Sir, I'm sorry to say this but with due respect, are you serious?" the guy said, moving a step back and pointing his pinky finger of his left arm to Kai and frowning as he stared at the lieutenant.

While the guy ranted, Kai stood there still confused as to why Gray would say such a thing. After all, the guy seemed to be half of Gray's age, if not equally half; his age would be two times Kai's.

"He's your senior, behave!" Gray said, his voice sounding like a sharp knife as he stared at the guy with a cold gaze.

Though they caught the attention at first, after Gray shouted at the boy everyone thought to be fearless, they turned their gazes toward Lieutenant Gray, Kai, and the guy, smiling.

After two minutes, Gray inhaled deeply and placed a heavy hand on the guy's shoulder as he noticed the guy's eyes still shaking even as the gazes fell from them.

"Mike, you'll be fine under his care. But take care of him as well; he'll be taking part in the fighters for today," Gray said, smiled, and turned his back on Kai and exited the room.

Looking at the faces and counting them, sweat started to bead on Kai's forehead so hard he wished he hadn't followed Gray as Clara had stated.

"Mike, who is that boy?" the snake-eyed man said, tapping at the shoulder of the guy at whom Gray handed Kai to.

Mike tilted his gaze toward Kai, chuckled and back to his friends. "He's just some random child who thinks he can take part in this training," he said, frowning.

Looking at how the friends wanted to know who the boy was, Mike kept on changing the topic whenever someone raised a topic with the nine-year-looking boy stated in it.

At that same time, Kai stared at his palms as he sat calmly on the bench placed closer to the large mirror those wearing an unprescribed outfit changed at.

Though he sat calmly, he kept swinging his legs and breathing in with the sequence of his legs, and watching the haste at which those whose names were called moved out of the room, shutting the door loudly.

'What is at the other side of the door?' Kai thought, seeing Mike and two other guys walk out of the door and shut it.

Kai moved from his seat, walked toward the door, then opened it slightly after ten minutes of seeing no one enter or exit.

As Kai opened the door slightly and peeked his eyes in, chills ran down his spine as he spun his gaze at the heads shouting and hailing the four men fighting roughly in the chained metal platform.

He stood there watching for a while but stumbled back as he saw blood erupt from a guy with black hair and splash into the air.

His mind reeled, showing him visions of a man kneeling in front of a six-year-old with blue and red glowing eyes and holding two daggers.

Kai's bones creaked as he saw himself to be the one holding daggers and grinning as he stared at the dying man's eyes.

One after another, the visions continued per every step he took back, changing the vision from the dying man to a man lying in a pool of his own blood. And in the vision, he saw himself holding a small doll with a dull wrapped around it.

Kai clutched his arms at the walls, screeching his fingers around it as if wanting to crawl and climb on it. And at that moment, Mike and the snake-eyed guy walked out of the door, clearing the blood on their faces.

"Is the guy mad?" the snake-eyed man said, pointing his finger at trembling Kai and laughing while wrapping his left arm around his stomach.

Mike stared at Kai, grinned, then laughed hard.

"Kael, didn't you see how his expression was whenever you stared back at him?" Mike said, cutting his laugh, then walked toward Kai and slapped him.

"Hey kid, behave yourself!" he said, cunningly placing his palm around Kai's cheeks as if helping him to straighten himself, then pushed him, letting him crash onto the ground.

"See him, is this the person Lieutenant Gray said is our senior?" Mike said, spinning and flaunting himself as he stretched his arms, showing his broad shoulder and vein-filled arms.

As Kai pushed himself up, the visions ended, leaving him to see only those pointing their arms and laughing at him.

"Show us what you've got!"

All the fifty guys in the room said, laughing and clapping their arms as Kai began moving.

When Kai stopped by the large mirror, he saw his eyes blinking and glowing as the howling increased. He clenched his fist, turned and looked at them, but at that moment saw a blue boot flying toward his face.

The boot slammed on Kai's face, hitting him and leaving a wound on him. Blood seeped out of Kai's shoulder, snaked slowly from it to his chin and fell, landing on the floor with a thud sound.

At the smell of blood, a cracking sound echoed around Kai's knuckles as he grinned.

Mike moved forward, standing in a ready-to-fight position and clapping as he hurled insults at Kai.
