Godfire: The Split Soul

Chapter 87: The Girl in the Cabinet

Minutes after Wang stopped hugging Marcus, Kang, who stood beside Marcus, stared at Wang, still having the urge to stab him or chop off his head, since he was wearing the sword sect military uniform.

'Is he the brother Marcus used to talk about always?' Kang thought as all three of them walked to the dark section of the building they stood at its front, leaving the five ninjas to stand guard.

Far at the four-way junction, Gray and his soldiers remained in the loop of slamming down the zombified humans and blasting their heads using either their weapons or their boots.

Sweat beaded their faces as they moved forward, slaughtering zombified human like chickens, and when they managed to move past a few hundreds, Gray halted his men as he spotted the windows of the building ahead opening one after another

"Let's be careful, those in these buildings are not affected," he said, gesturing to him men to look at the kids shaking at the side of the raised curtain and staring at them.

For forty-five minutes, Gray and five soldiers he trusted, including Mike, walked inside the building the kids were in, moved the kids and their parents to a safe place in their own rooms, and warned them not to go out no matter what, then turned off all the lights in all the buildings.

When Gray and Mike walked out of two adjacent buildings, they saw one of the soldiers he had tasked to take part in cautioning the owners of the homes, clutching his head as he hastily dashed out of one of the buildings ahead.

Seeing the soldier's reaction, Gray stopped all those who tried to move to the soldier and ordered them not to let him see them as they took the part at the back of the building the soldier stood at its front.

A few minutes after Gray, being the last person, joined the now nineteen soldiers, the soldier they had left behind screamed, and stabbed himself with his short butcher sword. The soldier placed his fingers at his chest and began digging his fingernails into his own skin, peeling them off.

After two seconds, green and sickly lines became visible on his skin and dripped from him like blood. There, the soldier turned a sharp gaze into the open door he stood at, groaning as the green liquid began to seep out of his eyes, blocking his vision and turning it greenly.

After a few minutes of staring through the building, he moved, dragging his legs forward and entering into the building as he spotted something moving in the building he had just exited.

A shoveling sound welcomed him as he moved to the open kitchen door of the room and slammed his head on it.

Inside one of the cabinets, a ten-year-looking girl who curled herself in the middle cabinet sobbing placed her palms over her mouth, hoping to calm herself as her mother and father had told her to, no matter what.

For the soldier now sniffing the room, he moved straight to the middle cabinet, slammed his hands at the top, making all the bowls, knives, and the metal spoon fall and crash onto the ground.

And in that moment, the girl, who had quieted herself for five minutes, broke her silence and screamed, bashed her elbows on the locked door, and dashed out.

Luckily for her, the bashed door slammed onto the foot of the zombified soldier, pushing him a few steps back, but unluckily, as she reached the kitchen door, it was locked.

With wailing eyes and a trembling body, the girl slammed the door with all the energy she had, and when the door wasn't opening, she picked up one of the kitchen knives scattered on the ground and stretched it toward the zombified soldier.

The girl threw the trembling knife at the soldier, which stabbed him, and turned back and held the handle of the kitchen door, trying to break it.

Just as the handle broke, giving her access outside the kitchen, the zombified soldier held her leg and pulled her, letting her go blackout as she slammed her face on the tiled floor, and began peeling off the skin on her face as he pulled her to where he was.

Standing outside the building, Gray brushed his hands at his face as dying screams echoed from inside the building.

He turned his gaze at the soldiers standing there with fear dressing them completely, then back at the dark road ahead.

"No matter what happens, don't let them bite you," he said in a cold voice that made all the remaining soldiers swallow hard.

They turned worried faces to each other every time they moved out of the darkness and stood by a new building.

And as Gray spotted glittering light on the five men dressed in black uniforms dashing toward him and the soldiers, he squeezed his face and clenched his fist.

"These ones are not zombified, but don't let them scratch you with their weapons," Gray said, turning sharply to his soldiers and back to the direction the men were coming from.

He pulled out his second katana sword, wrapped his fingers around both handles tightly, and dashed forward. A few minutes after closing in with the five black-dressed men, Gray slammed down two instantly, leaving the remaining three buckling back at great speed.

Gray and his soldiers chased them, hunted down two, and tore their arms and legs mercilessly, then dashed after the very one that escaped by stabbing one of Gray's soldiers in the neck, leaving him dead.

The moment Gray and Mike turned at the same corner the ninja turned, they stood, panting heavily, as they saw groups of pregnant women also zombified and chasing after the ninja.

Gray closed his eyes and sighed as he saw one of the pregnant zombified women turn to their direction and scream.

Without hesitation, Mike, who stood at Gray's right hand, dashed forward, slammed the pregnant zombified beautiful lady down, and when he spattered her head with his boot, a baby crawled its way out of the open legs of the lady.

At that instant, Mike stepped back, his heart heaving as the newly born baby cut the cord connecting it and the mother with its own teeth.

After separating itself from the mother, it turned a sharp gaze at Mike and gritted its bloodied teeth. And when it crouched down and began to crawl toward Mike, Gray dashed forward and kicked the baby, sending it flying and crashing onto the tinted glass window and entering the building.

A few seconds after Gray brought Mike back to his senses, a few of the remaining soldiers turned at the same corner Gray and Mike stood panting.

Seeing their number decreased, Gray questioned them about the whereabouts of the rest, but closed his eyes and squeezed his face as they told him that they had also been zombified.

Even after hearing that, Gray clenched his jaw and sighed, then began moving forward.

Mike and the now seven soldiers followed Gray as they saw him dash forward toward a white building that had its light on.

Around a circular table inside the white building, Marcus, Kang, and Wang sat calmly, their swords resting at their sides as they exchanged sharp glances.

"Why did you accept that Max to be part of you?" Wang said, stopping his gaze at Kang.

Before Kang could talk, Marcus stood up and walked toward a refrigerator that seemed to be running and opened it.

"Who wants to shake some bottle?" Marcus said, turning and smiling at Wang and Kang, then pulled out three bottles of whisky, and left the refrigerator unclosed.

"We were using him to lure the soldiers to us, but he had no idea," Kang said, taking one of the two chilled whiskies from the table and opening its cover with his teeth.

"How? He was also sending your locations and plans to the barracks…" Wang said, pulling the only whisky left and began reading the words wrapped around the bottle.

"Bro, the whisky has expired!" Wang said, turning a sharp gaze at Marcus and Kang, and frowned.

Meanwhile, the bottle in front of Marcus was completely empty, while Kang's own was halfway to being emptied.

Outside the white building, Gray halted as he heard voices echoing from the building, then gestured to his soldiers to lower their footsteps.
