Regressed With A Copy System: Breaking the Loop

Chapter 33: The Wisher

As the night grew cooler Nolan rode his horse as fast as he could, nearly reaching the city's boarder mark.

He suddenly pulled his horse to a stop, in a vast part of the kingdom that was filled with nothing. No trees, no animals, no buildings—just dirt and the howling night wind.

He came down and looked around, squinting his eyes. "Did I come late? Too early? Gah, I hate this regression."

Nolan walked with his horse looking around for someone, but there was no sign of life other than him and his horse.

He was even surprised that there weren't any demons around, even with the noises his horse made when getting here.

"I guess I should just go back? But I came on time, if I'm not mistaking," Nolan said with an exhausted tone as he came to a stop .

"You tried looking back?"

A raspy old voice came from behind Nolan and an amused smirk played on his lips. He slowly turned around to see a lean old man with a hat that covered his facial features except his bearded mouth, sitting on his horse.

"Get off my horse," Nolan said.

"Hop!" The old man said, putting his hands on the horse and lifting his body to stay straight in the air, before pushing off and landing gracefully on the ground.

"What brings you searching for me, boy?" The man said.

"Do you seriously have to stay in that form? A man to be precise?" Nolan asked.

"How did you know this is not me? Have we met before?" The old man laughed.

"More than you can count."

"But I have no idea who you are."

"You don't have to."

The old man chuckled and removed his hat. In reality, the hat wasn't hiding anything but a nose. No ears, no eyes.

He had only hair, a nose and a mouth.

Then…

Streaks of yellow light started to surround his body and he started to levitate. His form started to shine brightly and it soon became a blinding light.

Nolan looked away, covering the eyes of his horse so it doesn't panic.

When the intensity dropped, Nolan looked back.

Levitating, with legs crossed in a mediating position was a woman with unnaturally light skin that glowed, glowing yellow hair that almost reached the floor. From the hair, a tiny pair of wings covered the place for eyes and another pair covering the place for ears.

She cupped her face, resting her elbows on the folded legs while "staring" at Nolan. "Does this look better?" she asked.

"You're partially there, but it's manageable," replied Nolan with a shrug.

"You really do know me?"

"Do I have to say it a thousand times?"

This was The Wisher.

A spirit Nolan had first encountered in life 14, when he wanted to flee Cloveland as a prisoner.

This spirit had no known roots. He literally couldn't explain anything about it. It just appeared, usually a week after Loretta's first announcement, which was supposed to be years later, but… it was happening now.

She smiled and started, "I am The Wisher. A moonlight sp—"

"—spirit who soars the moonlit nights across the world, bringing hope and granting wishes to those worthy," Nolan completely with a bored expression. He'd heard it a lot.

"Oh," she managed, sitting up writing, hands on her knees. "You… you know a lot more than… you should."

"Enough with that. I have a request to make," he went straight to the point.

"Wow wow, you're making the request and not me? You surprise me. You really do. Why should I listen to it?" She teased.

"You don't have ears doesn't mean you're deaf, does it?" Nolan tilted his head, brows slightly raised. He knew very well that she knew what he was asking for.

She could read the thoughts of a person like a story.

The Wisher's brows furrowed. "Know how you speak to The Wisher, you feeble, ungrateful creature called a human."

Nolan blinked, but carried on with what he wanted. "I need my mana reserves to be expanded as much as it can go,"

"Eh?" She tilted her head.

If there were eyes, then she would have blinked at the request.

Then—

"Bwahahahaha!" She laughed hard, hitting her knees.

Nolan looked even more frustrated, gritting his teeth. "What's funny?"

Her laughter slowly died down and her expression slowly became intimidating. "You and I both know there is a place you can get that. Why waste a wish—oh wait, I wasn't going to give you anyways."

She started laughing and again and Nolan's horse turned to him and then looked at the lady again, then took a step back.

"What do you mean I'm crazy, hah?" She suddenly flipped to gritted teeth, facing the horse.

The horse somehow looked terrified and hid behind Nolan.

Yes, she could interact with animals. Even plants and trees.

However, Nolan's frustrated gaze remained fixed on The Wisher. She had already read his mind and found out about the witch he had gotten the compass for.

She returned her face to Nolan. "Okay, let me drop the act. See, I know a lot of things you would need, other than getting your mana pool up."

Nolan's brows arched up out of curiosity. "What do you mean?"

A smug grin stretched across her face and she hovered closer to him. "Nolan Dagmire," she called.

Nolan stared at the tiny pair of wings covering the upper half of her face, as if there were eyes there that were locked onto his.

"I know a lot about you than you know yourself," she mused.

Nolan remained puzzled.

"A thousand years of acting like I always forgot, but… you have finally gained the power I have been waiting for," she added.

"I don't understand. What are you implying?" Nolan asked.

"Don't act stupid with me Nolan," she scoffed, leaning back, her smile disappearing. "You know very well that I'm talking about… The Omnipotent Copy ability."

A sudden cold unlike any Nolan had ever felt in a thousand lifetimes shot down his spine. That name… no one but the system itself should know it. How was this possible?
