Regressed With A Copy System: Breaking the Loop

Chapter 45: Interrogation

Nolan's eyes slowly opened—blurry at first, but everything started to get clearer. He felt a throbbing ache behind his eyes, his body completely sore.

He tried sitting up, but the sharp pain went through his body put him in place. "Ah!" he winced.

"Awake already?" Lady Eva said, sitting on chair beside Nolan's bed with a book in hand. "You're in the infirmary, not the battlefield. Calm down."

Nolan turned his head to look at her, then he returned his gaze to the ceiling. "Where are the others?"

"Not as badly wounded as you, so they are doing pretty good, I would say. Clover Guild's healer is on their way here though. We need a lot of you back in action as soon as possible."

"Is it dusk already?" Nolan asked.

Lady Eva laughed. "What? You think we just brought you in recently? Your team's even out for today's patrol."

"Huh? What do you mean by that?" Nolan arched a brow turning to her.

"You have been asleep for roughly two days now, if I'm not mistaking."

Nolan's brow shot upwards. "Two what?!"

"Days. D-A-Y—"

"I get that! But why?"

"Because you were wounded badly? Lose your wits or something?" Lady Eva looked at him from the side of her eye, before returning her focus to . "The Royal Clovers worked slowly on your body. That's the only reason we're calling a healer."

Nolan closed his eyes and exhaled.

Two days. That was a lot. Just how much had he missed in just that period? This was regression wasn't one he should take for granted.

"When's the healer going to arrive?" He asked.

"In zero seconds." A utterly tired voice came in.

Nolan could not raise his head, so he had to wait for the person to come into view.

It was a tall, lanky guy in a white and green cloak, with dark circles under his unfocused eyes. Cameron Kavar—one and best of the only four healers in the entire Kingdom of Cloveland.

"Greetings Lady Eva," he said, slightly bowing his head.

"Mm, Cameron. You came early," Lady Eva said to him.

"Well, the letter said this 'person' was an important figure in the guild, so… I hastened up," Cameron responded.

Nolan raised a brow. 'Important figure? I guess their seeing through my facade now?' he thought, with a sigh.

"You can go ahead," Eva gestured towards Nolan.

Cameron nodded and walked over to the other side of the bed. He stretched out his hand over Nolan's body and closed his eyes.

His hands started to emit a soft green glow that enveloped Nolan's entire body.

A warmth washed over him as he felt the soreness, pain and numbness slowly disappear.

After a few seconds, Cameron stopped. "The Royal Clovers made it easier. You're good to go."

Nolan raised his hand, flexing it. He turned his head to different directions and he didn't feel any pain. "Copy that," he said, sitting up.

It was a normal reply for Lady Eva and Cameron, but to Nolan it was far more than that.

Nolan smiled. Who knew getting badly beaten up and being asleep for two days would lead to such an amazing power up.

"You seem to be happy now. Feel brand new, don't you?" Lady Eva remarked.

Nolan nodded.

"Well, I'd be taking my leave now," said Cameron, walking to the exit. "The front lines may need my assistance."

"How is the situation over there?" Eva questioned.

Cameron stopped in his tracks, not turning back. "Getting worse by each passing day. We need to go on the attack. Kingdom Morg and Vaelen have started experience attacks as well. Whatever is happening… is going to be far worse than we look at it."

Without another word, he left the infirmary.

Nolan watched as Cameron left the room and could only think, "Just what are these Architects planning?"

Lady Eva sighed as Cameron left. "Things have drastically changed. The bad way," she noted, shaking her head.

Nolan looked around the infirmary and realized they were the only two persons inside. "The infirmary is quite empty. Not that I'm wishing for people to be injured, but it's just quite… unusual."

"Ah, yes. Everyone has healed up. Everyone has gotten serious and very cautious ever since the incident with your team," Lady Eva explained.

"Not even the nurses are here, why?" he added, eyes narrowing slightly. He knew there was more to this, than her just being there with him. "What do you want?"

Lady Eva chuckled lightly. "As expected. This was a cheap build up for the likes of someone like you. Full of surprises you are."

Nolan didn't say a word.

"I must say, you are either insanely good with observation and prediction—as they said—like Elite Sebastian, or you perhaps… know what was going to happen," Lady Eva said, closing her book.

"I called out what I believed. It was a guess, and I wasn't wrong, was I?" Nolan tilted his head.

Two days ago.

Lady Eva's office...

"Why are you telling me, and why should I believe this?" Lady Eva asked, leaning back on her seat.

"Because I believe you would do something about it. If any team ends up going to the woods, then they might be in grave danger. The place looks like it harbors more than we think it does," Nolan explained.

Lady Eva didn't even spare him a glance, her eyes fixed on the pen on her table.

"I believe I have said enough for you to think of, unless you enjoy the news of the new recruits dying." Then he stood up and left the office.

Selena who was waiting for him outside, followed behind him.

He didn't know what he was warning her about ended up being something he would run into.

Now...

"So, which is it?" Lady Eva prompted. "Also, is your ability really fire? Or is your ability a… copying ability?"
