Commander Grev walked through the corridors of his ship with purpose, heading to his office. He had the information box that he sent Servin to retrieve in his hand. He wanted it for the information it contained. Unlike the second scout team, this one did not surrender freely.
Once he arrived, he opened the door, then walked in and set the information box on the desk. He opened a small door on the wall, revealing a socket. After pulling a cord from the information box, he attached it, then plugged it into the wall socket. Once ready, he flipped the switch to turn it on.
The soft sound of the whirling gears inside the information box briefly whistled, then stopped.
Commander Grev watched the screen. The readout of the information the ship's information box contained flashed across the surface. He bent forward to see what it showed. The readout on the screen revealed that the scout ship was functional at the time the Ramesians found it. The cloaking shield was still up when the Ramesians confronted the first scout crew. Something took down the cloaking shield, and he wanted to know what. There should not have been a way to take down the cloaking shield.
He knew the Ramesians' technology was superior to Kreq technology in every way, but they shouldn't have been able to take down a cloaking shield. It didn't make sense. He couldn't figure out how they did it. The information box indicated that it was forcibly taken down, not taken down by the crew, unlike the second scout ship. That second scout ship's crew had taken the cloaking shield down themselves when they had willingly surrendered.
He was concerned about the first scout ship. The original scout ship had its cloaking device forcibly neutralized, and its communications had been jammed before the crew had been captured. This told him that at the time of capture, they were still under the influence of the controlling serum.
He had sent Servin because he was the best at what he did. However, he was the brother of the first scout leader, which was the purpose of the listening device. He completed his mission perfectly. The listening device showed he did not waver from his duty. That was a good thing. Sometimes siblings are alike. He didn't want to lose his only expert in information retrieval on his disk.
After speaking to his nephew, Dreg, he was informed that the second scout crew had taken down their own cloaking shields because the serum had already been dissipated. They had surrendered the moment the Ramesians came to capture them. The first scout crew did not have that problem.
Commander Grev found that the first scout team's serum was dissipated after they were detained by the Ramesians, not before. Scout Leader Krem had, by accident, found his niece, and then Scout Leader Nevle had found his mate, who was also Krem's niece. This girl needed to die. She was messing up all his plans. If Scout Leader Krem hadn't found her, both of his scout teams would still be under his control.
Picking up his communication device, he pressed the button to inform Dreg to call him back as soon as he was able to. Dreg had called him while he was taking the information box to his office. Dreg had notified him that he would be in the training room with Jada, the one with half-zombie blood. The same one that challenged him at the execution. This female needed to die, as well.
He hated strong females. They cause far too many problems. That's why those of his own race had been broken. If they had no purpose, they would die.
Commander Grev pressed the hidden panel in front of him. It slid open, revealing the control panel that allowed him to listen to conversations from various listening devices that he or his nephew had distributed in the ship or in the dome. Dreg had placed listening devices in the council chambers so he could hear what went on in their meetings. He wanted to see what they were talking about.
After flipping the switch, the sound of static crackled through the speaker. Nothing else.
Flipping the switch back and forth a few more times, he attempted to get the sound to return. The sound of static crackled again. Still, nothing else. It was as if the listening devices were no longer functioning or turned off.
Flipping the switch to listen to his second spy, he turned the dial, then flipped the switch to turn on the listening device so he could hear what was being said. The sound of static crackled through the speaker... nothing else. He was unable to contact either of his spies, nor could he connect with any of the listening devices that had been distributed around the dome to collect information.
Commander Grev stared at the control panel, anger bubbling, then turning into rage. He was realizing what had happened. There was only one possibility for both of his spies' communication and all of his listening devices to be no longer functional; he turned to glare out at the blue planet beneath him. In rage, he swiped the information box with one hand, flinging it toward the wall. It ripped out of the socket and flew toward the wall, hitting it and crumbling into several pieces. The pieces rained down and scattered to the floor. The sound of pinging was heard as the pieces hit the polished floor, bouncing several times before it went silent.
Commander Grev stood, then stormed to the large window to look out into the vast expanse of space. He looked down at the blue planet that glowed brilliantly in the darkness on the other side of the small moon he was hiding behind. He couldn't wait any longer. They must have figured out that the listening devices were placed in the council room and that spies were informing him of everything that was going on in the dome. Dreg must have put the devices in obvious places. It made it easy for those who knew what to look for to easily find them. They wouldn't be in the Ramesians' files. The metals used were a substance not in their database. There was no other explanation. Dreg had failed.
Pressing a larger button on his control panel, Commander Grev growled out an order. "All fighters, assemble in the Hangar bay and prepare your ships," he barked out. "We are attacking the dome!"
Commander Grev stormed out of his office, leaving the crumpled information box on the floor, and headed for the hangar. He wanted to oversee the fighters. He craved battle. He was about to get it.
On the way to the hangar, men rushed around him in full battle gear. They were heading for the hangar, preparing to go into battle. The sound of their boots tapping on the finely polished floor as they rushed through the corridors of the ship could be heard as they rushed to obey his orders.
Commander Grev stepped into the hangar as the pilots rushed to their fighters. He scanned the hangar, finding his shuttle. He headed to his shuttle as the pilots rushed around him; their flight gear was already adorned as they headed for their respective fighters.
Commander Grev ignored them. He continued to his shuttle with purpose.
His shuttle pilot stood next to his shuttle, his posture stiff, features slack as he waited, ready to transport his leader to the surface. Commander Grev had every intention of overseeing the destruction of the Ramesians and their domes. Taking out the listening devices was the last straw. He had no other way to plan an attack. His spies had been discovered; he knew they had, or the listening devices wouldn't have been destroyed. It left him out of options. All his plans were being disassembled.
If Council Leader Tosh had still been in power, he could have easily taken over the planet. He would have used the deal to lure Tosh so he could kill him. It would have made it easy to rid himself of the entire Ramesian race. If this female, Niki, hadn't challenged Tosh and killed him, this Vorik, whoever he was, would not be in power. The whole situation angered him.
The pilot stood stiffly beside the shuttle at attention as Commander Grev entered the shuttle. "Take me to the surface. I want to watch my men take down the Ramesians!" he ordered.
The pilot glanced over at his leader, his body stiff, face slack as he turned to enter the shuttle himself and begin his flight sequence.
With a group of fighters flanking his shuttle, the small group glided out of the hangar bay and into space, heading smoothly toward the blue planet.
The remainder of the fighters exited behind him in a swarm like insects, all heading to the main dome, gliding through space toward the surface of the blue planet.
