Earth's Last Days: The Invasion

Chapter 130: 130: Battle

The entire dome had been scanned. Multiple listening devices were found in several areas. They discovered that there had been a second spy, but they couldn't figure out which one it was. The listening device and communicator might have been placed within the dwelling without the two Kreq knowing. It was either Tran or Krem. Council Leader Vorik wondered if Krem was spying this whole time. He didn't think so, but there was still that possibility.

The console at the East gate beeped. It was an outside communication; An attempt to contact. When Seeran realized where it was coming from, he called Council Leader Vorik, then answered the attempt at communication.

"I am Seeran at the East gate of the main dome; what would a Kreq be doing contacting us?" he asked.

Council Leader Vorik rushed up to Seeran as he waited for the Kreq's response. Vorik had been close by. It only took him a minute to get to Seeran.

The sound of an alarm sounded through the communications. "Sir, our leader and a group of fighters are on their way to attack the main dome. I am contacting you to warn you of their attack. Not all of the fighters are under the influence of the serum. Some still are. Those under the influence plan to shoot but intentionally miss. Commander Grev is with them in his personal shuttle." The man reported.

Council Leader Vorik quickly gave the order for his own men to prepare for battle. Their instructions were to disarm and decommission, not to destroy and kill if they could help it. If they could kill Commander Grev, then all the men would no longer be under the influence of the serum. He wanted to save as many of the controlled men as he could. He knew that without the serum, most of them would not be attacking them, following Grev's orders.

After giving the orders, Council Leader Vorik turned his attention to the man on the other end of the communication. "Who am I speaking with?"

The man was silent for a moment, then conceded to telling him. "I am Fenn. I am a friend of Servin," he stated. Then continued with his report. "Commander Grev is on a shuttle headed to the surface. We don't know if his pilot is still being controlled. Everyone hides it in fear of being found out by the wrong man," he continued. "Grev has a group of fighters surrounding him. We know of at least one of them that is no longer under the influence of the serum. We don't know if there are more."

Another alarm sounded, and then the sound of a blaster. The communications suddenly went silent.

Outside the dome, a large swarm of fighters flew around the dome, some shooting. The energy cannon fire blasted onto the surface of the dome. The dome pulsed, absorbing the fire and strengthening. It was utilizing the power of the canon to strengthen itself.

Council Leader Vorik looked at Seeran. "I need you to stay at your post. I have a battle to fight and a shuttle to find. This is the main gate. I want eyes I trust to keep watch at it."

Seeran nodded, giving the gesture of respect.

Vorik turned and rushed off. He was glad that he had ordered everyone to always be dressed for battle. They didn't have to stop and change into battle armor. They had been prepared since the Kreq disks were first discovered, and the first group of scouts on the scout ship was detained.

As he rushed through the streets toward his shuttle, he called Merrick to have him and Rask prepare the shuttle and to have the small craft's shields at full strength once they were ready to lift through the dome.

Vorik called the fleet. "We're under attack, Sir," the Fleet Commander stated. "There's a swarm of fighters surrounding the fleet. The new blast shields are absorbing the blasts, but we don't know for how long."

"Keep them busy," Council Leader Vorik ordered. "Once we find and kill Grev, they will stop fighting. They're under the influence of the controlling serum. Stay safe," he told the newest fleet commander, closing the communication and rushing toward his shuttle.

When he reached his shuttle, Merrick and Rask were already seated, prepping the ship. As soon as Vorik entered, the door was closed.

Council Leader Vorik got inside the shuttle and strapped himself in.

"We have to fly quickly through the dome. If they fire with it open, the blast will go through the shields," Merrick stated. "I'm lifting off and getting as close to the plasma as possible before they open the shield for us to go through."

Vorik nodded, his eyes focused through the front window of the shuttle. "Once through, scan for Commander Grev's shuttle." He ordered. "There's going to be a swarm of fighters surrounding it," Vorik advised.

The shuttle lifted through the small opening of the plasma dome, the blast shield briefly non-functional. One of the fighters took the opportunity to fire on the dome. The blast went through, destroying one of the residences. Vorik hoped it was one of the empty ones. There was nothing he could do at the moment to help whoever was inside.

The opening in the blast shield closed quickly as soon as the shuttle exited, preventing more blasts from entering the dome.

Merrick strengthened the shuttle's blast shields, hoping that they wouldn't realize they had left the dome. All the fighters would head toward them if they realized the Ramesian leader was pretty much alone in his shuttle. He didn't bring his own fighters with him. His only focus was to find Commander Grev and end the battle.

Council Leader Vorik knew that the fleet was surrounded by fighters, making it difficult for his own fighters to go to the surface. There were no fighters in the dome. He would have to let his own fighter kill theirs in order for them to leave the fleet and fight those who were trying to blast through the dome. They were in a tough position.

Merrick had the cloaking shield on also, hoping that the Kreq wouldn't see them. The Ramesian cloaking shields were superior, but that didn't mean that they weren't detected. They didn't know, and now wasn't the time to test it.

"Sir, I found the shuttle. He has six fighters surrounding him," Merrick called back. Vorik was still watching through the front window of the shuttle.

A female voice sounded through the cabin, shocking all of them. "If you land and let me out, I can sneak up on him." It was Jada in full battle gear. Both of her boots had a bladed staff stuffed inside. A pair of short swords, serrated on one side, were strapped to her back, twin blasters on her belt. The silver cuff of wrist gauntlets peeking out of her sleeves showed she had knives at her wrists. She was prepared for battle. None of the men inside knew how she got aboard and hid while they were taking off and going through the dome.

Vorik looked at Jada with anger and irritation on his features. "Does Orik know you're here?"

Jada didn't laugh. "There was no time, and I'm the best one to take out this guy. He thinks all females are weak. He knows my name, but he won't know it's me. He doesn't know what I look like. I know Dreg told him about me, but Grev has never seen me. His not knowing what I look like is going to throw him off when he finds out I'm stronger and faster than I look. You guys worry about his men. I'll worry about this deranged commander."

They all knew it was too late to take her back. She was right. Orik was going to be angry, but there was nothing that they could do outside the dome and in the middle of a battle.

Merrick flew on toward the shuttle. Commander Grev's shuttle had landed, its protection surrounding him, ready to defend him if he was attacked.

Jada pulled out a small disk and attached it to her palm. She looked down at it, making sure the palm shield was ready. It was the same protective shield as the blast shield. It would absorb the blasts. She tested it, making sure it was working.

"Does his ship have a protective barrier around it?" she asked Merrick. "I can't get to his ship if there is one."

Merrick checked his display. "No. He has no choice but to leave it down so he can see the battle. The Kreq tech isn't advanced enough. You should be able to get to him. I'm more worried about his fighters seeing you."

Jada laughed. "How do you think I got on board this shuttle without you seeing me? I knew the boss would go looking for Grev, and this was the shuttle he would take, so I snuck on board. I've been working with the tech guy. He gave me a personal cloaking shield I was testing out for him. If there had been more time, I could have tested it, and all of us would have had one of them. As it stands, I'm the only one. I can get on board and take him out, no problem. I'll be cloaked. He won't be able to see me."

Council Leader Vork sighed. "Don't call me that." Jada was always calling him 'the boss' or 'boss.'

Merrick landed the shuttle. "I have to take down the cloaking shield to let you out," he told Jada. "You have to move quickly so I can get it back up."

Jada nodded, understanding it would be bad for Grev and his fighters to see the shuttle. "Flash the shields, and I'll use my zombie speed to leave through it," she told him. "Can you open the door with the cloaking shields up?" she asked him.

"Yes, but you can't go through the cloaking shield. It will kill you," he warned her.

Jada stood up and stood next to the door. Merrick let it slide open. "Let me know when to jump," she told him.

Rask got up and stood by her, opening a panel beside her. "When I push this button, it will pulse the cloaking shield. I will push you and the button at the same time. It has to be done at the same time. Me pushing you out is the only way to ensure you get through the shield without dying. Do you understand?" he asked her.

Jada nodded. "I'm ready whenever you are," she said, then braced herself for the fall.

Rask fully opened the shuttle door and then pressed one hand on her shoulder and the other on the button. He suddenly pushed Jada and the button at the same time. She fell out of the shuttle and rolled on the ground on impact. She suddenly disappeared. Her personal cloaking shield was turned on. There was no way to know if she was injured during the fall.
