Guard Commander Drevick, Council Leader Vorik, and Aleigha made their way through the south green, following the militia group to their meeting site.
A man stood in the middle of a small open space. As the groups approached him, they stopped and gathered around him, waiting for him to speak.
"Let's hear a bit of what he has to say before we do anything," Vorik whispered.
"Let us know when to do something," Aleigha whispered back to him.
Devick, Vorik, and Aleigha stepped forward, close enough to hear but far enough that they wouldn't get bumped into.
The male waited for everyone to arrive before he began to speak.
"Our group is getting smaller. Many of us are disappearing. The guards we placed in the prison haven't been seen either. I asked about one of them, and one of the guards told me he hadn't seen him either. He hadn't shown up for his shift. The guard commander had to call in a replacement," the man announced, scanning the crowd as he spoke.
Another male looked around at the group. "Where is everyone going? Why aren't they here? This was a mandatory meeting."
The leader stepped forward. "They have vanished. We are unable to contact the ships or the other domes to find out if they were transferred. No one seems to know. The humans are vanishing also."
One of the females in the crowd chuckled. "Isn't that what we wanted?"
The group laughed.
"It is," the leader spoke firmly. "But our people are vanishing also. What you see," he said, pointing at the group around him. "Is all we have left."
A male to the side stepped forward. "Can we recruit more?"
The leader turned his attention to the speaker. "No, it's too dangerous. We need to kill the remaining humans before the rest of us disappear. We need to do it before someone finds out who we are."
Aleigha snickered quietly, still holding Vorik and Drevick's hands. "We already did."
Vorik whispered to Aleigha and Drevick. "Aleigha, you stay in the middle. Take out who you can.
Drevick, move away to the side, far enough from Aleigha, so you two won't bump into each other. I'll go away from Aleigha on this side of her. We need to take our positions and attack."
"Yes, sir," Drevick and Aleigha whispered in unison.
Council Leader Vorik released his grip on Aleigha's hand. Aleigha moved the hand that was holding Vorik's and placed it over the one holding Drevick. "Be safe," she whispered, squeezing his hand with both of hers.
"You as well," he returned. He quickly kissed her hand before releasing it and heading in his own direction to take his position.
Aleigha walked forward. She carefully unsnapped the holster for her blaster and then pulled out her knives, ready to do damage.
The attendees sat on the grass in smaller groups and watched their leader.
Aleigha approached a small group that was farther back from the others with only a few men. She went behind them and prepared herself. With one knife in each hand, she pressed a blade, one each on a separate neck, and quickly sliced, then stepped backward. She continued during the short pause of the shock of those around them at the two she had just killed. One after the other, she slit those throats she could get to. She saw to her left; it was happening there, too. Drevick's swift blade was cutting through the soft tissue of two men's necks at once. Blood poured down his victim's necks as he moved on to the next one. He did the same thing she did.
Looking to the opposite side, the same thing was happening from Vorik.
As quickly as she could she sliced as many throats as she could as quickly as she could.
One man started running, nearing making it out of the park. Aleigha had no choice. She pulled her blaster and aimed for his head. She was an excellent shot.
All turned to the blast giving Vorik and Drevick time to slit more throats.
Knowing that more would try to escape, Aleigha watched the perimeter, watching for those trying to escape.
Several tried but were stopped short by her blaster fire.
As the remaining part of the crowd tried to run, Vorik and Drevick took out as many of them as they could. Aliegha, using her blaster, shot those who they couldn't.
Scanning the secluded part, Aleigha found another member hiding behind a tree. She knew it was part of the group. She had seen him arrive.
With one hand holding her blaster and the other her knife, she headed for the member hiding behind the tree.
"Scared?" she whispered near him.
The male searched frantically, trying to find who spoke to him. His eyes were wide with fear.
"You want all humans to die?" she asked tauntingly, making her whisper as sinister as she could.
"Yes," the male spat. "Where are you?"
"Don't you know there would never have been problems if your kind hadn't destroyed most of the population of this planet? You would have done the same thing if the position was reversed," she whispered.
"I know you. I know your voice," he shot out. His voice was shaky from fear.
Alaigha laughed. "The only way to keep my son safe is to kill you and anyone else that threatens his existence."
Before the male could respond, Aleigha shot him in the neck with her blaster. The blast hit him perfectly, severing his head. Aleigha walked away from the body. She didn't like killing, but she had to protect her family and friends. The militia group was a threat to the peace of all of them. They all had to die. The only one that would be left was Kaul. They had all promised Jada that honor.
Aleigha scanned the south green. The killing had stopped. She studied the area, looking for more hiding. A figure materialized nearby. It was Vorik.
Aleigha deactivated her own cloaking shield. "Where is Drevick?" Aleigha asked Vorik, panic seeping through her words.
"I'm right here," a voice called from beside her. Then, his form materialized. "I saw the male looking for you. I knew you were there, so I came to you, yet trying to stay out of your way," he said, rushing up to her.
When he reached her, he bent down, not caring that Vorik was there, and kissed her, then rested his forehead on hers. "I'm so glad you're safe," he whispered.
Vorik chuckled behind them. "I knew it."
Aleigha turned to look at Council Leader Vorik, ignoring his comment. "Do you think we got all of them?"
"I don't know. We need to act like we didn't so we're not surprised if we find out there's more," Vorik told them. "We need to clean this up before anyone sees it. We don't want it getting out in case there are more."
They used an incinerator gun to clean the mess of blood and bodies. Since most of the bodies were in one place, it was a quick clean-up.
"I think we need to leave the area cloaked," Aleigha suggested. We were last seen in the council chamber. We were not seen leaving it. We need to go back there cloaked and leave it where people can see we left," she explained. "Until we know we got them all. No one can know we had anything to do with this."
Drevick nodded. "I agree. If the wrong person finds out, we will all be targets."
Drevick and Vorik flipped on their cloaking shield, then took Aleigha's hand as she activated her own. They slowly made their way back to the council chamber, hand in hand. When they got there, Vorik opened the door, and they stepped in. Before deactivating their cloaking shields, they scanned the room for intruders. There were none, so they clicked off their cloaking shields.
"We need to act surprised if someone reports it," Aleigha stated. "I hate being dishonest, but in this case, to weed out any residual members, we need to act like we had no idea what happened."
Vorik sighed. "I hate agreeing with you on this, but I know you're right."
Drevick nodded. "For now, no one can know anything. We have to make sure we find all of them first. According to the audio record, they were all supposed to show up. That doesn't mean they did or that one got away and we didn't see them."
Aleigha sat in one of the chairs. "I sure hope this isn't never-ending. I want peace, quiet, and time with my son and mate," she said without thinking.
Drevick stiffened, forgetting what happened with Vorik seeing them in the south green. Vorik laughed. "I know you two are mates."
Drevick visibly relaxed while Aleigha giggled, then looked at Vorik. "Yeah, and you need time with Alice. She and the twins miss you."
Vorik suddenly stopped. "I don't think anyone else should know you two are mates until after this is all over. You two will be a target. You would be considered a powerful couple. Both of you are nearly unbeatable with weapons. They will want to go after you quickly if there are still militia members."
Drevick sighed. "I hate to agree. But I do." He bent down and kissed her gently before moving away from her.
Finally, they left the council chamber, uncloaked and separated so that no one knew that they had any involvement with the scene at the south green.
A male ran up to them as they left the council chamber and headed across the grass in front of the building. "Sir, someone is attacking people in the south green!"
Vorik, Drevick, and Aleigha looked at each other before following the male. All three of them discreetly unlatched their blasters' straps as well as the strap holding their knives in their holders.
"Were you with those at the park being attacked?" Vorik asked calmly.
"Yes, sir," the male said, rushing back to the scene.
"Did you see who was attacking then?" Vorik continued. His eyes briefly looked at Aleigha, then Drevick.
"No, sir," the male told him. "When I realized people were being killed, I ran to find you. I went to your home, but you weren't there, so I was heading to the council chamber to see if you were there."
As soon as the male's back was turned, Aleigha swung the butt of her blaster at the male's head, knocking him out.
"You should probably interrogate him," Aleigha shrugged. "His story doesn't make sense."
Drevick suddenly put a cloaking shield on himself and activated it as well as his own. I'm going back to the council chamber. I think Aleigha is right.
Once back in the council chamber, Council Leader Vorik stuck the injector of truth serum into the male's neck. The pain woke him, but he immediately went slack, eyes unfocused.
Vorik stood in front of the male. "Why did you come to us about the south greens?" he asked.
"To set a trap," the male stated, his voice monotone.
"Did you see who attacked the group at the south greens?" Vorik questioned.
"You did. Guard Commander Drevick did. The disgusting human female did," the male listed.
Aleigha leaned against the table. "Never second-guess me. I'm always right."
Drevick chuckles. "I've never known you to be wrong."
Vorik shook his head at the couple, then turned his attention back to the male. "How many of the militia members survived?"
"Five," he responded. "We snuck out while you were fighting."
"Who are the five?" Vorik shot back.
"Me, Tresk, Gaf, Morx, and Strephel," The male answered. Listing the five, his voice is monotone.
Vorik looked at Drevick and then back at the male. "Where are they now?"
"Hiding in the south green to ambush you," the male spoke. His eyes started to focus. He was already coming out of the influence of the truth serum.
"Are there any more militia members in or outside of the dome?" Vorik asked quickly, wanting to get the truth before the serum wore off.
"No, there are only five of us left," he stated. His voice is still monotone.
Drevick walked up to the male. "No, there are only four," he said quietly, then stuck the large knife in the male's chest, piercing his heart.
Using a cloaking shield, they took the body out where they could incinerate it. When they were finished, they concealed themselves with the cloaking shields and headed for the south green again.
