Clementine began banging her hands on my Clorafite weapons, so I quickly recalled them back into my dimensional ring.
"They're all scattered. One of them is pretty close to us, but the other three are going for the other ice towers."
"...?"
They're not coming for their friend?
Usually, when a Reaper dies nearby, the others immediately come flocking to it.
That's why I was so tense.
But apparently... they just don't care?
"Are you sure?"
"Of course I'm sure."
She rolled her eyes.
"The closest one to us seems like it's observing us."
With that, she pointed into the blizzard, probably directly at where the Reaper was.
"They have some weird abilities though. If I get too close to them, my Soul Weapons just stop working."
"That happened to you too?"
I raised a brow.
"They might be wearing some energy dampening artifacts then."
Here I thought the one I fought had some kind of energy dampening Gift...
Clementine stood up and wiped the snow off her clothes.
She did a quick stretch and pointed at the blizzard again.
In the next instant, a long silver lance appeared and flew straight into the blizzard.
A few seconds passed when, all of a sudden, Clementine winced slightly.
"He parried it a little."
This girl...
"You had me worried... I thought he absorbed your Soul Weapon."
She shook her head.
"Nope. I did a few tests. They can destroy my Soul Weapons, but they look too stupid to actually try consuming them."
"I see..."
I glanced ahead.
"Is he still there?"
Instead of replying, she sent ten more lances into the blizzard.
A faint smile appeared on my face.
I immediately turned into lightning and followed her Soul Weapons.
It didn't take long for me to see the Reaper.
But he was struggling.
He was drooling, and despite not having any injuries, white blood was dripping from his nose.
When she said 'parried it a little...'
I think she meant she turned him into a vegetable.
But then again, a full-on attack would've straight up deleted his soul.
The Reaper, seeing the incoming lances, did his best to dodge everything purely on instinct.
And honestly, it was impressive, since he wasn't hit once.
Except his instincts might've been a little too overloaded.
After all, he didn't notice when I appeared behind him.
And with a mere thought, I sent exactly three Clorafite Weapons straight through his brain, heart, and liver.
The Reaper's body twitched for a moment.
But the white blood began to flow even more violently, and soon enough, the Reaper collapsed.
Clementine emerged from the blizzard a few seconds later with her arms crossed.
"You know... I've been thinking a little, but wouldn't it technically be possible for you to also drain energy if you combine lightning and Telekinesis?"
I tilted my head.
"What are you talking about?"
She approached a little closer, then sat down on one of her Soul Weapons.
"You said you control your Gifts purely from imagination. I've been trying to do that... though I'm still not that good at it."
"But let's say you imagine Telekinesis as like a tube, and then you connect that tube to someone's heart, where all the energy is gathered..."
Pausing for a moment, she met my gaze.
"Couldn't you imagine lightning as a form of energy and then steal it from others?"
Imagining lightning as energy and siphoning it directly from others' hearts...
My head hurt just from thinking about it.
Still...
"It sounds a little too far-fetched."
She tilted her head.
"Is it really though? I mean... you mentioned that in the final pages of that Telekinesis book, you can control time and space. Does that make any sense? Because I think it's a little stupid..."
Hearing her say that, I fell into thought again.
It really was stupid.
But with Gift control that relied solely on my mastery and imagination... I guess it might theoretically be possible.
"I'll keep it in mind then. I do need a direction for my lightning, because otherwise, I'm just loosely using it."
A faint smile appeared on her face.
But it was that kind of smile.
"Thank you, Clementine."
Her smile beamed further.
It looks like she just wanted a simple 'thank you.'
Haha...
She rocked her feet back and forth and glanced in a certain direction in the blizzard.
Just then, two blue flares shot up to the sky.
There was only one more ice tower left.
"Let's get a move on and get rid of them. I don't want them escaping," I said.
Clementine nodded at me and hopped off her Soul Weapon.
I began levitating us with my Telekinesis.
These Reapers were powerful, but this bunch in particular was a little weird.
In the game, I remember facing powerful Reapers who used their Gifts like machines.
But if these guys were carrying around artifacts and not using their Gifts... were they some kind of different type of Reapers?
And almost like I had just jinxed myself, I felt an extremely powerful energy erupt in front of us, then settle down.
I abruptly stopped.
Clementine did too.
"Did you feel that?"
"Yes..."
She frowned slightly.
"Two of the Reapers disappeared. Only one is left, but he's a little different."
Clementine...
"Elaborate."
"He's taller, his hair's longer, and he seems to have a white halo above him..."
"..."
Well, shit.
"Is it only one halo or several?"
"Only one."
One halo...
It's still a problem.
A very big problem.
"We might be dealing with an Inquisitor then..."
Noticing her confusion, I continued:
"Inquisitors can have up to five halos, but with only one halo, they are between Grade 50 and Grade 52.
"Basically, this guy is a bit too much for us to handle at the moment."
"That's..."
Clementine scratched her cheek nervously.
"He's already started moving toward us."
"Uh..."
Without wasting a single second, I enveloped Clementine in my Telekinesis and began flying toward the entrance.
As good as the artifact may be, it was definitely not worth our lives.
I moved fast, and yet the killing intent only grew stronger by the second.
That was until a pale white hand burst from the blizzard at a ridiculous speed and reached straight for my neck.
