Chapter 16: LAURA

I stood in front of the petite who was glaring at me. I wandered how I would speak to her about our earlier confrontation. She shifted her sitting position planting her leg down onto the floor and crossing her arms as if she were awaiting me to speak my mind. "Aren't you going say something standing in front of me like that?" she said impatiently. I only grumbled in response to her question.

"There's more room around here, you know? You don't need to stand there like a statue." she said.

"Where are my manners? Hi there, I'm Captain Chris the man you shot earlier with your shotgun, remember? I guess not, but I wonder what brought you here besides helping Eliza. Besides I would like an apology from you." I said.

"An apology? What do you take me for a kid? No, I am not apologising for anything I did to you. You were intruding in the facility unannounced and I took defensive measures." Laura said

It became evident that this conversation was going nowhere. She was insistent on justifying her actions which I had no disagreement with however her lack of accountability was very clear as if it were standing in front of me. Though I wanted more out of the conversation than what we just had, the suit notified me of another potential radiation spot. The source was still unknown but it seemed as though it was penetrating through the facility at an alarming rate.

'Give it a minute,' I remembered from what General Mynde had always said to me in my time of serving in the military. I had closed my eye to collect my thoughts and analyse the situation. "It is quite irritating, isn't it? The radiation from an somewhere spreading through like there is nothing to stop it," my mind said.

"It is indeed. What do you propose should be to hinder its progress while we wait for Donny and Eliza to finish their research on the location of the other dimensional gate?" my body asked.

"Very well we shall await the results unless either one of you two have something else to add to this conversation?" my mind spoke directly to two silhouettes standing behind my mind and body.

Aro the divine angel and pure of heart stood there in her white dress adorned with a white masquerade mask hiding the beauty she had under it. Make no mistake, she was a warrior from stories of old. She was always the feared hero that the demons knew it would be futile to fight her. Yet for all I remember she was always in my head along with the ferocious demon Fragius whom showed a great distaste of being involved in my mind's and my body's interactions.

Though he did dislike being placed under unnecessary pressure, which of course there was none, he would always offer an aid. As for his appearance, till this day it was obscure to give any sort of definitive description. My Mind and Body have not once witnessed his appearance nor his attire. He seemed to have been hiding his looks. Maybe he horrendous to look at or maybe he was sublime in his looks, he never truly gave any evidence and that left only assumptions. As for his accomplishments those were yet to be learnt.

"What the fuck are you staring at?" Laura asked, abruptly pulling me back to reality.

She had become a bit agitated. A reason only she could provide.

"I wonder why Eliza brought you here?" I asked her. She looked at me as if it were a profound question. She looked at Eliza and back at me and her face changed from a serious and irritated look to an unsure and worried one. She thought about what she had to say and she was careful about it.

"It's a complicated matter. I was around the building looking for safety and found her helping someone get away from those things. She saw me, grabbed me without question and brought me down here to watch over her and make sure none of those things and any other intruder gets down here." she said.

"That doesn't sound professional for someone like Eliza. There's more to it isn't there? What you two were fucking each other before this whole thing happened? Or you work here and happen to be off your shift? Either way I don't believe a word you say." I told her.

"Why the fuck would you think we had sex?! I barely even know her! She just umm-," Laura paused for a moment.

"The dead people in the stairway, was that you?" I asked.

"No, we were chased by some fuckers in suits. They killed those people, not me! You can even ask Eliza."

"I heard what you had to say but that still doesn't give me any reason as to why you shot me," I pressed her.

"I thought you were one of them. I thought you all were part of them but I saw you first and I didn't wait to find out what would've happened to me once you got through that door. I pulled the trigger out of fear, okay? I am sorry. Are you happy now?"

"Well I got all that I wanted from you, thank you. And as for that half-assed apology I am going to have accept it but I expected something better."

"Fuck you!"

Laura's face twisted into anger and agitation. I remained silent so as to not aggravate her further than needed. She was moments away from grabbing a hold of her shotgun and ruining everyone's day. I stepped away and gave her room to cool off. She didn't question how I survived which was a good thing. Didn't need an unnecessary quarrel erupting.

Marie stood beside Tarius. They both looked in my direction, then looked at each other and spoke about what had transpired. Maybe. As for Donny and Eliza they were still working on the table, then Donny looked up and gestured me over to the table.

I walked over to him and he showed the display on the table. The display showed the map of the city and there was a bright red spot at the edge of the city. "It's the second dimensional gate in the old stadium," Donny reported. We have the exact location of the second dimensional gate. Now all we had to do was destroy this one and go to the second one.

Oh you don't know why? I thought you were up to speed right about now. Let me remind you that Bradely before he passed asked us to come here and find out the location of the second dimensional and destroy the one in the facility while we were at it. It was important to do so, just in case it were to activate and the demons come through that one instead. No room for error.

After that I looked around the room and focused my gaze on Eliza whom looked worried about something. "Something on your mind Eliza?" I asked her. She looked at me stunned, she hadn't expected such a question while she was lost in her trade of thought.

"Er... Sorry... umm... No, I have nothing on my mind." she struggled to respond.

"Really? Well, we got what we needed, it's time to destroy the dimensional gate," I said.

"Umm... Yeah... Yeah, I think its time to finish the research. We have a lot already from studying the gate. I guess it's time to end the programme." Eliza said and she sighed.
