Devil Equinox

Chapter 18: BACK IN ACTION

It was quiet in this area and it was unsettling. My instincts kicked in right away, my eyes widened and my legs moved instinctively. I didn't lunged nor jumped but ducked under a swinging blade that nearly beheaded me. It was instant at that moment that this fallen angel wasn't here to speak and reason just hell bent on making sure I wasn't another problem to deal with.

I then turned my body in such a way that allowed me to counter with a kick to its side. I moved my body backward, lifted my body with my hand planted on the unlevel, rough, cold floor. I turned my body with my hand and used the momentum to lift my of the ground and swang hitting the fallen angel on the side, making it fly into a wall with a tremendous amount of force.

While in that motion, I used it to get myself up on my feet while doing a flip. I didn't waste a second and dashed toward the fallen angel and punched it dead centre in the face, forcing it deeper into the wall. I repeatedly threw several punches and I stopped when I felt satisfied. I stepped back and looked at it. It was a peculiar fallen angel.

It didn't seem to show any recognisable features like a face. Its body was completely black except for its eyes which were plain white. "You aren't like the rest, are you?" I questioned it but I got no response. It didn't seem to be able to speak and so I left it there. I turned around to pick up Tarius' sword and saw a black sword with a dark purple glow emitted from the blade. "Shit!" I said realising what I was actually facing, baffled.

'What is a corrupt angel doing here?' I asked under my breath. Fallen angels are banished angels that had killed humans while corrupt angels are angels that were gifted demonic magic. Though both are similar corrupt angels are known for their swords and inability to speak. I just couldn't kill one immediately, they are tough and utterly cumbersome to fight let alone kill. I would've been irritated but their fighting prowess was one to be reckoned with and it was something I wanted to enjoy.

I heard rubble fall and looked behind to find the corrupt angel getting out of the whole I put it in. It pushed itself out and walked toward me before it dashed and appeared right in front of me, I raised my arms high to guard my face and chest. Its fist connected with my arms and I was pushed back a few metres sliding across the ground. I lowered my arms and lunged for an attack. I throw a right jab to its side hitting the ribs with a slight amount force and a powerful left jab to its chest sending it flying back at the wall or so I thought.

It caught my arm before I had inflicted any damage on it. It was quick and was astounded at its ability to adapt. It was different from the others I had faced more recently apart from Rennaira. This corrupt angel earned my respect. It tried to try me toward but I stopped it and threw a straight fist towards its face hitting its jaw.

It held on to me tightly and so I flew with it though I rested on it. I yanked my arm out of its grip thinking that was the end of it however something hit me in the head and the next moment I saw myself flying sideways and crashing into one of the crates. 'I guess this is a competition of making one another fly the most in this fight.' I muttered under my breath a bit annoyed. I got up from the broken crates and the corrupted angel stood there with its sword in its hands, though it didn't attack. On the ground was Tarius' still but only a few metres away from it was the corrupt angel. It wasn't a coward so it walked over to the sword and kicked it in my direction and it slid all the way from it to me and stopped before my feet. I picked up the sword and fixed my body into my fighting stance.

It simply raised its sword in front of it. It then charged toward me.

Our swords clashed and clinged at every contact made. Though the corrupt angel had spectacular swordsmanship it simply was not as superior and refined as mine. As it swung its blade at me I block it at every turn. Even when it was behind me I did not turn, I blocked the attack without looking and pushed back enough that the edge of neither sword slices of a piece of my flash.

As it jumped back to charge its next attacked I saw an opening and closed the gap between us, and it caught it off guard. It instinctively raised the sword above its head to swing it down however it was too slow. I slashed it in the abdomen and it fell to it knees. It tried holding itself up right with the sword but it ended up falling on to its side. I walked up to finish the job, and to my surprise it changed back to a female angel. She laid there naked with her bare skin exposed, her breast resting on her chest, and slim model like figure wounded.

I knelt beside her and placed my right hand over her wound and used my power to heal her. Yes, I can heal other people and beings though it has its limitation which is a topic for another time. As for now it was necessary to inform you before you got any ideas. While I healed her I looked her up and down. She was beautiful and quite young for an angel, maybe fifty to a hundred years of age. For a warrior, she had to at least be a hundred and fifty to be considered fit for battle. That didn't seem to be the case however my question was how could a young angel like her end up corrupted.

I stood up with my brother's sword in my hand, my eyepatch reappeared on my left eye and I walked up to the dimensional gate. With no interruption I destroyed by slashing through it with the sword and making unstable enough to implode on itself. The thing was being near it during that event meant certain death.

I held out my hand toward the glass, my pistol appeared in my hand and shot the glass all the while I ran up to the young angel's naked unconscious body on the floor. The glass shattered I picked her up and carried her in my arms, having my pistol dematerialize and I jumped up into the room my team were still in, which was about five or seven metres above the ground I was on. While in the air I held the girl tightly against my body, turned midair and braced for impact.

I crashed into the table Eliza and Donny by with a metallic thud. I checked on the girl, still safe in my arms and body. I heard a shotgun being cocked and Laura shouted, "WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU?" I looked toward the source demanding, trembling voice. She had pointed her shotgun toward me, and I didn't see what expression her face made.

"LAURA PUT DOWN THE FUCKING SHOTGUN!" Donny commanded.

"Laura, please put away the weapon!" Eliza pleaded.

"Laura don't do something you're gonna regret!" Marie reasoned.

Through all of the commotion, I moved the girl off of me on to the cold, hard metal floors and got up with my hands up.

"Laura, listen to them. You don't want to do whatever it is you haven't thought through." I told in calm, unwavering, deep voice.

Her face was plastered with anger, fear and confusion at what she had witnessed. She had a front row view of the fight the girl on the floor and I had. Before she could utter another word I swiftly unarmed by grabbing the barrel of the shotgun, pulling it toward me forcing her to follow it and knocking her hands off of it and tossed it on to the floor. That took sometime to actually take place since I had to move closer to her without agitating her. My training in the military still has its use.

After having diffused the situation I walked back to the girl and picked her up and placed on the table. "Aren't you going to at least cover her up," said the girl who couldn't control herself. I only glared at her with the intent to kill, she got the message and remained silent. I glanced around the room and saw Tarius' face, his eyes went wide, eyebrows raised yet he couldn't speak.

"Do you know her brother?" I asked him and everyone in the room stared at him.

"Veronica is her name. A young prodigy under my mother, Arina. You remember her, right brother?"

"Yes, I do. Why was Veronica corrupted?"

"I do not know brother?"

"Hmm."

The room was filled with pin-drop silence. No one spoke after that. We all stared at her, waiting for her to come back to consciousness. That's not what I want to do, and everyone in the room saw it in my face.
