Devil Equinox

Chapter 34: THE LAST OF HIM

The infamous Demon Lord, who commanded the Sinister Twelve, had arrived to claim the world that was fought for in his hands. Darius wanted to continue in this battle with his injury but was called back by the Demon Lord for reasons unknown to everyone.

Ravedos kept his face plain to express no emotion for the sheer hatred he had in his hearts for that demon. He despised him more than anyone in the dimensions that he knows of and yet he hasn't done anything to get rid of the menace.

Each step heavier than the other the Demon Lord stepped out of the dimensional gate into the world Ravedos was trying to protect. The demon-angel went on to attack the Demon Lord but was swatted away. The Demon Lord wasn't the size of all demons he was larger. About twenty metres tall with an enormous body that could level buildings to some degree of ease.

Donnys' and Maries' jaws dropped trying to comprehend the sheer size of the demon they were facing and as soon as the Demon Lord stepped out of the dimensional gate, more demons exited between his legs and poured out into the world as river of water rushing rapidly from the mountain to the sea.

He stood tall and mighty as though he were a god among everyone. He was just a gigantic buffoon to say the least by Ravedos' standards on all occasions. Pardon the slight interruption.

Ravedos the teams captain took it upon himself to fight horde inbound ready to tear anything alive to shreds without a thought of right or wrong. With his sword in one hand and his pistol on the other he ran toward the horde and cut them down, as many as possible.

His team did not stand there and watch idly and joined their captain to the death. Veronica got up from the ground and summoned her blade to jump into action. Marie remained on the backlines to cover for the others ahead. Dante ran in after the captain to aid him in his strength. Donny shared the same sentiment as the others and went on to help however his only limit was, he is human nonetheless he had the spirit of a warrior. While at the same time Tarius still lay on the ground slowly healing his wound with the aid of Dante's sister Malorie.

"Hang in there, you got this," she whispered into Tarius' ear. The struggling angel was hanging on a slither of life and if it weren't for him attacking earlier, he would've not been in the state he was in but like Veronica. He groaned in pain as he was healing. It was excruciating.

"Is that all you got you fucking giant piece of shit?" Ravedos asked the Demon King. Having heard this from the former leader of the Sinister Twelve he snared and retorted, "Such wasting potential for what? An angel? A whore?" Then he chuckled thinking it was amusing. He followed up with a swing of his large hand toward the demon-angel.

He was still focused on the demons at hand that he had not noticed the hand until it had reached. With a swift response he caught the hand, pushing against it digging his feet into the ground before he finally stopped it a few metres away from where he stood. Using some of his strength he shoved the hand back away and launched himself from the ground up into the air and commenced aerial attacks on the Demon King.

The others on the ground were doing all they can with the few manpower they had, and it was becoming apparent as the demons were slowly overwhelming them. Donny and Marie were drawing nearer to their limit. The adrenaline they had was waning and the activities they found themselves doing become cumbersome and this made them reliable.

Dante had to not only focus on fighting the overwhelming forces ahead but now he had to tend to those two and his sister, Veronica had to be the one to aid Dante in fighting off the demons and even so she couldn't do much. Slowly but surely, they were taken down one by one. Pinned down further than they were.

Ravedos still fighting in the air was hit down to the ground and looked back at his team. He realised they had no chance in surviving, he had to do something and fast. In his thoughts he conversed with his Mind, Aro and Fragius. They all gave him one answer, 'Get angry!' Knowing the last time, he had become so furious that he decimated a small number of demons he had to do it again. That meant he had to be attacked consecutively taking every single blow for his team.

'I hate this fucking plan, but here we are,' Ravedos said under his breath. He slowly breathed in then out embracing the pain that will be inflicted on him. The hordes attacked him, biting, slashing, clawing and hitting him. He gave little resistance holding the demons back from reaching his team.

His anger was slowly building up to the point that he had lost his mind and transformed into a stronger being one that many called the demon-angel. His true form. He simply raised his arm and the demons he waved his hands against explode into a mist of blood and organs and the other side where more of the horde and he did likewise to them. Though the demons were small and more of his size and weaker he can't use such power against stronger foe and larger ones like the Demon King.

Ravedos looked up at the horrendous demon and attacked the demon with a barrage of attacks with his sword, cutting, slashing and slicing the Demon King. After his take off the others felt a little relieve and had room to breathe though more demons flooded out from the dimensional gate.

Tarius was fairing a lot better now that he had mostly healed. He opened his eyes and tried to get up but was hit with a sudden flooding of pain that he had thought was gone but he used all his might to ignore that pain that kicked in late. "Where is my brother?" He asked Malorie, and she pointed up at the Demon King showing Tarius that Ravedos was fighting.

He stood up with the assistance of Malorie on his struggling to maintain his balance at first but later adapted. He gestured to Malorie showing her that he was fine and was able to fight. He wielded his blade again in his and looked around only to notice that Darius was missing from the battlefield but before he could ask demons already had him and the rest preoccupied. This time they were able to stand their ground proper.

The Demon King thought he had managed to subdue Ravedos by trying to squash him in his hands in the state he was, Ravedos wasn't more than likely to escape with ease than if he weren't. He pushed away the demons' hands with such force that his hands had holes in them and he opened his hands freeing the demon-angel and he felt the pain of the aftermath.

The Demon King became irrationally desperate that he tried to head-butt Ravedos. He countered with his sword to the head of the Demon King. In an event that he had no reason to be shown his blade Titan Slayer snapped though he succeeded in pushing back the Demon King.

With no choice he tried again and swung as hard as he wanted and ended smashing the Demon King's skull back into his head killing him. This did force Ravedos out of his state, after exerting more power than he ever had. He then landed back on the ground hard.

The towering figure of the Demon King slowly fell backward on to the dimensional gate. It landed on it with so much force that it caused the dimensional gate to begin sucking all demons even the one powerful being back into hell. Though the Demon King's corpse was pulled back the dimensional gate was too small for his size which ended up dismembering parts of his body and forcing it through itself.

The little strength that the demon-angel had, he used it to plant his broken sword as deep as it could into the ground and held a tight grip on it, while many demons flew back into the gateway from hell. Tarius rushed toward his brother to try and save him. Little be known to us his hands started slipping before the angel could reach him. When he did reach, Ravedos lost his grip on the handle of his sword and flew back. Tarius caught him and held him tightly.

BACK TO MY VIEWPOINT

"Brother, I can't let you go," he told me.

"Tarius, I think it is time for you to let me go," I told him.

The look on his face told me that he did not want to do such and be left like he was burdened. "No, I can't," he said.

"I held on for this very moment, Tarius. I know the guilt you would have had if I had gone in too early. Right now, I want you to let go. I must go."

"What do you mean? How can you expect me to just let you go?"

"Because I had asked to do so as my wish to you brother,"

"Noooo… I-I can't,"

"Just do it brother. It is better that way."

He could bare it nor understand my wish. I will tell you as well, since you find it very odd. Now though, he let go of me and I flew back into the dimensional gate. I saw him tear up for the first time of being with him. We had shared a lot of experience together. It was not for nothing. They will see that.

That was the end of our mission, but it wasn't the end of our story, my story. We aren't even close to the ending this is just the beginning of what you think is the end of my storyline.

Author: Hey guys, I hope you have enjoyed the story up to this point. This marks the end of the Downtime City Invasion Arc. I know it's crazy right. As you have noticed I wrote in third person. Yeah, that's because the events of the three chapters were too expansive and would have been too narrow with first. Plus, I was trying something new fr. Until next chapter readers.
