Devil Equinox

Chapter 35: NEW DAY NEW MISSION

Dante was in the middle of a conversation with a young lady who had a petite figure, was shorter than him and had crimson dyed shoulder length hair. She had introduced herself to Donny who had taken a haircut shortening it to a high-fade, Marie who had to shorten her hair making it just short and Veronica who stayed behind as she was no longer accepted back as a the warrior she was but in fact was exiled, banished from the realm of the Supreme Deity for she had become corrupted and made unclean by the demons. She adopted the way humans did things, and she decided to dye her hair violet with black streaks along its length.

Tarius on the other hand went back to see his mother, the Supreme Deity, and report to her everything that transpired that day and that He had left and was presumed dead. Tarius was disheartened when he announced this to her. He is still there making his report still which of course takes a while maybe a few days to finish the report.

The young girl Dante spoke to, was a cheery and excitable girl. She was very interested in him or so he thought but her intentions were not so apparent and so, she seemed to not pose a threat, and her figure further exaggerated it.

"Yeah, I am like the leader of the group, and they pretty much listen to all I tell them to do," Dante told her falsely.

"Oh really?" She asked.

"No, the fuck not, you arrogant prick!" Marie reminded.

"Don't mind her she just doesn't like to be listening to her awesome leader. Well, what about you give me your number?"

"Well, not yet Mr Awesome Leader," she answered him.

"Come on Stella, you'll be missing out on all of this," Dante said accompanied by him his decent masculine features.

"You will be doing yourself a favour by not listening to his loudmouth. Trust us," Donny chimed in.

"Wait what do you mean?" Stella asked Donny.

"He is trying to get in bed with you, if you ask me," Marie told Stella.

"Yeah, you are not the only one he has done this to. Plenty of women like you have fallen for his tactics, we don't want you to fall for it as well," Donny said with the most faked pity filled facial expression.

Stella looked at Dante and slapped him then walked out of the lovely café that they were situated. Veronica was irritated by what Marie and Donny, and it showed, written on her face. Donny and Marie laughed to their hearts content after ruining Dante's shot at getting a girl for once. Though they did him a favour which is very ironic, since he would have failed and not gotten Stella either way on his own accord.

"Very mature you two," Dante told them.

"You should've seen the look on your face Dante. Hahaha," Donny told him.

While these three were bantering on his failed attempt at charming a girl, footsteps came down from the pavement outside the café that they were. Veronica heard these footsteps but quickly dismissed them.

Suddenly, a hand smacked Dante at the back of the head. He reacted only to see the familiar face he had not expected.

"You know Dante, you got a big mouth right?" the person spoke in a deep, calm voice showing no hint of frustration and lingering hate.

Everyone's eyes went wide, and their jaws dropped. They thought they had seen a ghost standing amongst them. "Captain!" they shouted befuddled and not believing who they were seeing.

"In the flesh," the person responded.

Then my team stood and hugged me tightly. Veronica, especially, was waiting for me but didn't know when I would arrive.

They all smiled, and I smiled back at all of them. Immediately my smile faded and I became serious. I told them the reason why they were at the café, "I called for all of you to be here," I said. I was met with anticipation, after two full years after that day.

"We have a new mission, and it is out of Downtime City. I did not call for this, but we are the only ones who can handle it. Our new mission is to be detailed to you at our new base of operations in Bronix."

"Wait, Bronix? Isn't that like five hours away?" Donny asked.

"Yeah, I know, and we all have accommodation there."

"You can't be fucking serious with a new mission, after you have been for two years straight. You left us, we had to go into hiding after that day." Marie aired.

"I know what you have been through. That's why I stayed away for two years, so that you can enjoy your lives without me around. And General Mynde was the one handling everything regarding you hiding out for some time. He sent you all money to use, new identities, new phones and even the lives you have been living for the two years." I told them.

"You're a fucking asshole," Marie said.

Marie's character was not clear to me. She changed in those two years. All because I wasn't there for what they went through. I didn't want to tell them what I had gone through to make all of this happen for them. The sacrifices I had to make to keep them out of harms way along with General Mynde.

My face rested and left me looking emotionless as I was looking through what I had been. 'If only they knew what I really had to do,' I thought to myself. I looked back at everyone and how they looked.

"Marie, we must do this. It is what we signed up for. Veronica here lost her privileges as an angel, she was exiled from her home, and she has nowhere to be. Didn't you question why she was staying with all of you? I wanted her to be with all of you. I have taken care of you all in my absence. I shouldn't have left however I was obligated to complete the mission sacrificing myself."

"Look we don't need to do this again. I am leaving. Donny, are you coming with?"

"No Marie, I understand where you're going at, but this is our job, and Captain tried his best to make sure we had the best life possible before we can get back into duty. It is the least we can do for him," Donny told her.

"Are you really taking his side over mine?"

"Yes!"

"He is going to get you killed Donny,"

"What did you say?"

"I said he is going to get you killed,"

"Captain, that isn't Marie,"

Donny was right to say that to me and everyone else. It seemed that this doppelgänger was trying to convince Donny from taking on the mission and showing Marie's false insecurities. Veronica caught the fake Marie, and I went inside of the café with Donny to search for her.

We looked around and found no one there not even the staff members weren't there. We rushed through into the women's restroom, and we were greeted by a disgusting demon that formed a cocoon around Marie's bathroom slowly engulfing her.

I grasped my sword and slashed the demon open it up to release Marie -who was unclothed at that time because the demon digested them first-, and she was unconscious. I took off my jacket and covered her with it.

Donny carried her and we left the restroom. Outside, I grasped my pistol and shot the doppelgänger in the head and the crowd around the café ran away after hearing the gunshot. We ran across the street into an unmarked van and drove off.

Our mission was just starting even after getting back. This is how things are going to go, right?
