Devil Equinox

Chapter 55: THE CURSE OF LIFE

"You ever wonder why you live?" a voice spoke in my head. "You have many times, but something brings you back to life. Could it be that your blade wishes you life? No. A force has kept you alive and it will not let you die, not yet. Now you must fight and keep your life from her hands!"

From the words I heard, I grabbed the hilt of Titan Slayer in front of me, placed my free hand on the blade and pushed firmly blocking the attack that was aimed for my head. It knocked me back with a force that sent me flying back into my team. Veronicah and Darius caught me and went and attacked my assailants. Donny and Marie made sure that I was not injured.

This had angered me how it was an ambush and my Body spoke to my Mind, "Power! I need more power!" and my Mind had said, "For if I raise the power you currently have will it satisfy you?"

"Yes!" my Mind had answered.

With no other words uttered, my Mind raised my power to over a quarter of my full power and it was a significant raise, for even the assailants, Veronicah and Darius stopped. The moment I stood, fear overwhelmed them and they knew that I was holding back though I still was.

The moment I stepped forward their heads flew off their bodies, and I saw the shock in their eyes before they rolled on the floor. "Let's clean up this mess, before the employees come for work tomorrow," I spoke in a dark and grim tone. My face was grim; skin pale and my eyes were soulless.

The others were scared and a certain doubt about me fell into their minds and seeped further rooting itself deep in them, even my brother Darius felt fear that he couldn't fathom.

After we cleaned up, I stepped out and took in some fresh air. Outside were more goons waiting for us. I looked around and did not find Igiris nor did I find The Harlem but one of the members on the list were there. "Who are you?" I asked them. Hidden in the crowd they said their name, Nagari Ito, they emerged from the crowd and was in a black jean, a black crop-top and a black leather jacket. Ito had short brown hair, and she looked to be a tomboy.

"The Harlem sends his regards and asks you to politely fuck off and leave his city. If you don't, well, you are already." She said laying out her point.

I grumbled and spoke, "And who decided that?" out of my wits I was tired.

She smirked and giggled, "Very well," she said and the men and women on her side raised their guns and she vanished back into the crowd. "Kill him and all his friends." She commanded and this only angered me.

The first round of gunshots I evaded. But the second round didn't give me a chance, and so as part of my power I stepped forward and stood behind them. In my anger I slaughtered each and everyone of them. Leaving blood, organs and dismembered body parts on the ground.

'Well, it was a good run, abiding the rules after all!' I thought to myself, 'I have tried to avoid this day, but I failed and so I will muster myself and face it. My team should not be involved in this matter. I will come back once I am through with my onslaught.'

Moments later my team rushed out and found me standing amongst the corpses and in rage Darius said, "What have you done! You have condemned yourself!" and rushed toward me, I looked back and saw my changed brother who so cared about me. His scythe swinging toward me in its glory, I stood there and awaited its arrival.

I grabbed it with my left hand and hit him toward my team with my right hand. I had inflicted enough damage to stop him from following me. "Flames of dark, fire of blackness, they see and once I speak they cannot until my leave is final," I spoke and felt pain in my chest. They didn't need this, but I couldn't drag them into it.

Temporarily blind Veronicah asked me, "Why cost your life for us?" and I spoke walking away, "Because you don't need to handle my problems. Darius, I trust you with my team and make sure they are safe. If not, then father will see you soon. Dante, Marie, Donny, forgive me for what I have done, I leave you to handle the rest of the operation in my absence." I said grimly and tears forming by my eyes. I walked away needing to handle my problem.

The team now left speechless didn't know what to do without they leader. "What are we going to do now?" Dante asked. He's childlike and arrogant attitude was replaced by his seriousness as he knew the team was not in a good position.

Darius himself still in pain didn't know how to lead the team and they still hadn't accepted him. His actions were used to persecute him before but now since he was left in charge, they would have to follow him. They were still reluctant to follow since his orders were just a way to make them bend to his will, but Veronicah and Dante had reminded him that Captain did not do such but instead looked at what could benefit the team and not him.

They spent hours planning on going after Ito, woman Captain encountered, but their plans did not add up or even make sense, "How the fuck did he manage all this?" Donny asked Marie. Even she was confused and now understood they relied too much on him, and he made them dependant on him as well.

The team sat down together hours after leaving the bakery and discussed their ideas. Some were shunned and others were plausible, but they didn't seem to agree on them. 'What if,' 'How about,' 'Maybe if,' were asked, spoken and uttered leaving them without full proof plans.

"Shit! If we don't get this done, then how the fuck are we going to get the bitch?" Dante asked.

"I don't know," Donny said.

"What the fuck do you mean 'I don't know'?" Dante asked.

"Dante if you have a better fucking plan, well, we are all ears. You dumb fuck!" Marie exclaimed.

"Would it not be best if we hunt down their and weed them out," Darius offered.

"We could but the fucking problem is how can we. I mean looking at the building plans I don't know if we can go in and out without being noticed," Donny said.

As they kept quarrelling, the one who left them in that predicament was running through the damp alleyways. Why you may ask? He was being chased by fallen angels. After slaughtering humans, they were overjoyed to come and kill him. He was quick witted and soon they learnt of his wits.

One of them found in him in a corner and said, "I am finally glad to kill you," and dashed toward him swinging his sword here and there, but it did not touch a single hair on Ravedos. He was quick footed and countered each attack killing the first of several fallen angels.

The Harlem on the other side spoke to Igiris and Ito in was furious. "Why didn't you kill him!" he shouted.

"Boss, I had him in my clutches, but he was saved by another demon I have not seen before," Igiris said. The Harlem drove his hand through his pristine hair and diverted his attention to Ito, "Well?" he asked.

"I had left men to deal with him after our best fighters failed against him. But when I returned, I found only their bloody remains." She spoke.

"We clearly have underestimated him. I won't make that mistake again. Without Maggie the production is hurt and it's all thanks to him and his team. Have you heard from Amelia?" he spoke.

A man in the shadow of his office left the shadow, a tall and well-built figure emerged and showed itself before The Harlem. His strong figure was accentuated by his clothes, a black plain t-shirt and sweatpants.

"Well, Ben?" The Harlem asked.

"She has stopped leaving her home and when she did it was all business deals and heading to her father's diner. She hasn't been in contact with him for a few days. Safe to assume she learnt her lesson." Ben spoke slowly, concise and smoothly.

Ito gawked at the young and handsome man, and Igiris took notice of it.
