Anima Requiem: I Bought a Katana Online and Triggered the Apocalypse

Chapter 58: Missing Egg

Axel's pulse raced as the creatures antenna moved around, scanning, his thoughts running wild imagining what would happen if one caught sight of him.

He shuddered and shook his head, slowly stepping back, head low as the creature scanned around.

Axel heaved a sigh of relief as the creature left, he quickly left the area, his hands twitching, rubbing his skin as he felt something crawling up.

No doubt his mind playing tricks, the only good thing from his discovery was that the ants nest was quite far from the cave.

Most likely the blood attracted them, but still that didn't make him feel any better.

"I really need to leave this place," He muttered, rubbing his shoulder.

"And the best bet I have for now is Imu," he sighed.

I bet she might just abandon me if I don't deliver, what a dilemma.

So let's try our best, he said, stretching as he trudged through the jungle, heading towards what he believed was big blue eyes cave or bluey for short.

Now that he had time, his plan wasn't to fight the dragon head on, he was going to give it something to focus on, and based on how big blueys eyes were, he was banking on that.

But now, "I need to study it and figure out a way to draw it out," he said looking forward, "it'd be really great if it had kids or an egg, how lucky would that be."

And Axel was indeed lucky, perched high on a tree branch, looking into blueys cave, his lips twitching, brows scrunched together.

"This…was not what I meant," He muttered in a frustrated tone, at the sight in the cave.

A big creature was lying down, most likely dead, two smaller variants of it digging into its flesh, from where the breast should be, or so Axel guessed.

The creature was indeed bluey, it's big eyes still open, blue pupils within, unlike other creatures he had seen before that had characteristics of earth animals, this one absolutely didn't.

It had four pairs of legs, or limbs, whatever you want to call it, and due to that it's body was quite long, it's body was without fur, just dark purple skin.

And then it had one large eye, then multiple smaller ones surrounding it in a circle. Its face got slimmer as it approached the mouth, ending at a point, but…

He looked at the smaller ones, their entire face opened as they took a bite, a long line revealing sharp, pointed teeth beneath, their spiky tails wagging as they eat from their mother.

Axel sat back, resting his back on the tree, hands covering his mouth.

"This was definitely not what I meant," He murmured.

This should be more like unlucky, or perhaps twisted luck, it definitely was not anything good.

That just dashed my plans, he sighed and looked up at the purple mist.

There's no way I can actually get any other creature out, they'll definitely scurry back into the cave or even run away, not like the snake.

"Well," he looked towards the cave, "I'll just have to do it myself."

Then he stood up, standing on the tree branch, the scene reflecting in his eyes, a dangerous glint suddenly flashing in his eye.

"I should just kill them." He whispered, quietly to himself, as if asking a question.

"Don't get arrogant," He shook his head, "I don't even know their abilities, besides…"

He looked at the cave for a second, not saying anything.

"It's nature, as twisted as it is…"

He turned and leapt down, "it won't benefit me." He said as he landed.

Sprinting towards his cave, no at this point he was jumping from one branch to another, yes the legendary ninja tree jump.

But his didn't require technique, it was just his agility and brute strength, his augmented body that made it possible, now all he had to do was ensures he landed properly and push off.

With that he was a blur through the forest, effectively avoiding what was creeping down, and his speed making it hard for what was in the trees to catch him.

Of course he avoided trees that looked too suspicious, or showed activity, and with that, pretty soon he was already at the cave.

But as he reached the cave, as he stepped in, eyes widened as a thick putrid smell, like something rotten, hit him, he leapt back outside, taking deep breaths.

He looked towards the entrance, "what's that smell, could it be the egg."

"It wouldn't be surprising, but…"

Just in case he was wrong, he unsheathed the Gishiki, took a deep breath, and held it in, then he stepped in, warily looking around approaching the tunnel.

With stealthy steps, he approached the innermost part of the cave, repeating his spying maneuver, but there was nothing again.

Axel frowned, his face now reddened, "the egg it is then, I better get rid of it then"

He sighed and approached it, but his frown deepened as he approached it, unlike what you'd expect from a spoiled egg, this was still pristine, still as he left it, no signs of spoilage, no fungi, no rot, nothing.

What is this, he wondered, his finger reaching for the liquid, the taste would definitely tell him if it was spoiled.

But before he could touch it, the sound of something shattering came from its side, followed by a bright light.

Axel leapt back, tilting down as something white screamed pass his face, lodging deeply into the crystal.

Blood dribbled from Axel's forehead, he hadn't been able to completely dodge, he quickly stood up.

His eyes widening, multiple white shards were embedded into multiple crystals, some shattering the crystals reaching the wall behind. The black egg was completely shattered, the liquid splashed on the floor, it's shell unable to withstand whatever that was.

His eyes narrowed, grip tightening around the Gishiki as something moved in the liquid.

He looked on warily, stepping back as something twitched again.

The white egg was missing, white shards, did it hatch, if so what came out, Axel wandered.

But the next second all his questions were answered as something came out of the liquid, a white blur heading towards him, his finger curling.

The next second Axel appeared outside the cave, his pulse spiking, but he wasn't alone.

He swallowed hard as he felt something slittering up his right hand, up to his shoulder.

Then it stopped.

Axel gulped hard and slowly turned his head to the side, his gaze slowly moving to his right shoulder.

He froze as he saw what was staring back, black slit like pupils, the most noticeable thing, looking back at him.
