Chapter 126: 126: A Giant

Drake and his cohort stood waiting for the massive beast to arrive. They knew they couldn't outrun it. It was too fast. The longer they ran, the beast would ruin more trees in the area. They needed to keep the beast in its own area to prevent it from destroying the entire forest.

"Any chance you can make this one an ally?" Mike asked, staring at the enormous energy signature.

Drake shook his head. "I don't think it will work on this one. It's out for blood. I can feel its bloodlust. Can't you?"

Mike shook his head. "No, I can't feel anything except the ground rumbling as it comes closer to us."

"Neither can I," Chad added.

The sound suddenly stopped.

In front of Drake and his cohort, they heard a loud bang. A massive figure landed in front of them, creating two massive craters in the ground from its enormous feet. As it landed, it swung a massive club toward Drake.

Drake dodged to the side, the club missing him by less than an inch. It smashed onto the road, creating another crater.

Mike shot out the strongest lightning blade he could. When it landed on the giant, it did nothing. It was like a bee sting. It was only a nuisance. He kept trying, wanting to buy time for Drake to come up with a plan.

Chad pulled his bow, releasing energy arrows one after the other, with the same effect. It did nothing except annoy the giant.

Drake lashed his whip out, its energy releasing from the whip first. It slammed into the giant just before its metallic counterpart. With the double strike, it barely made a scratch.

"Shit, nothing's working," Drake hissed.

Holding out his hands, he shot out his most powerful spell. It was an explosive whirlwind. It slammed into the giant's face before it exploded. When the spell faded, the giant was completely unharmed.

Trying his energy beam next, he aimed for the giant's face again, letting the constant beam hit the giant. The giant swatted it as if swatting a fly, trying to get it to go away. The beam did not injure the giant at all when the energy beam's magic ended.

As Drake continued to throw spell after spell, Chad and Mike rushed toward the giant and started hacking at its legs, trying to cut it. The skin was strong; the swords sharp blades, not even cutting through the first layer of the skin.

"Our swords aren't doing anything!" Mike yelled.

Putting his sword away, he powered up his gauntlets and pounded into the giant's leg. "Fuck, nothing's working!" Mike yelled after seeing his gauntlets didn't do anything either.

Even with their grandfather's power, they could do nothing to the giant in front of them.

With one hand, Drake lashed his whip, with the other, he pulled out his staff and slammed it into the ground. A massive wave of energy blasted from the staff. This time, it knocked down the giant, throwing it back nearly forty feet.

As it tried to pull itself up, Drake fired another one, hoping the staff didn't run out of power. Desperately, he tried to connect with the troll's mind, trying to get it to stop attacking. It didn't work. The bloodlust only grew.

The second wave of energy blasted into the giant; this time, it didn't do anything. The giant was already on the ground. Drake realized that the energy that threw the giant back only caught it off guard. It wouldn't work a second time.

Drake tried to communicate with it again. Still, the bloodlust grew. A thick pressure surrounded them as the giant stood up, then took two steps toward them. It didn't need to take many steps. The giant was way too large. It only needed to take two steps to reach them.

"Now what?" Mike asked. His tone was sarcastic. He didn't know what to do about the giant. Nothing they did work. Not even Drake's staff.

Just as Mike said it, the large club slammed into his stomach, knocking him against a tree, causing him to go unconscious.

Drake looked at his downed friend. "Heal him!" Drake ordered Chad.

Chad immediately rushed to Mike's side and pressed the flat of his healing sword to him. The blade glowed with a soft white light, then slowly healed Mike.

Drake drew the giant's attention, moving away from his friends to give Chad time to heal Mike. He didn't like to see his friends getting hurt.

Facing off with the giant, the giant swung his club toward Drake. Drake swept the staff toward the club. A slash of energy left the staff, slicing across the club, cleanly severing it in half.

"At least I can damage the weapon," Drake mumbled, pulling back the staff. His eyes glowed brightly as he stared at the giant.

The giant looked down at his club, seeing that his weapon had been sliced in half. He looked at the half still in his hand, then back at Drake.

Drake grinned. "Are you sure you don't want to listen to me?" he asked the giant.

Renn and Ruby moved toward Drake, flanking him. The giant looked between the two beasts then back at Drake.

"I don't harm unless attacked first," Drake hissed. "You attacked me first. I did not attack you."

The giant tossed his broken club to the ground and then lifted his massive leg, attempting to flatten Drake. Drake moved to the side. Renn and Ruby attacked at the same time, as the giant tried to attack Drake. Renn was a level 5 beast as well.

Her sharp saber teeth sank into the giant's neck before she attempted to rip out his throat as Ruby's pincers grasped around the giant's ankle, trying to incapacitate it. Ruby wasn't strong enough to do enough harm. However, it was enough to distract the giant, giving Renn enough time to yank a large amount of flesh from the giant's flesh.

Blood poured down the giant's neck as Renn sank her saber teeth into it again, pulling yet another chunk of flesh. The blood poured faster.

Ruby continued to grasp at the giant's ankles while Renn continued to tear at its neck. The blood poured too fast. It suddenly burst into light particles, causing Renn to leap to the ground.

{A member of your cohort has slain a Blood Giant}

{Reward given: Level 5 beast armor}

{Level 5 beast armor compatible with all familiars.}

Drake smiled. "It looks like Ruby can have armor," he whispered, picking up the armor and putting it on Ruby.
