Dimension Master

Chapter 127: 127: Unexpected Quest Pt1

After resting for a bit, Drake continued down the road with Mike and Chad flanking him. Ruby was in her small beast form, resting on Chad's shoulder, while Renn was on Mike's.

After walking along the road for ten minutes, a sudden white flash appeared around them.

When the flash ended, Drake found himself inside a small chamber. At his feet was a strange bag with a long strap. He could tell that it was to be put over the shoulder. Along with the bag were a whip, a sword, and an ordinary-looking bow and quiver.

Drake looked around him, noticing that he was alone. His friends were gone.

He tried to communicate with his familiars, but failed.

Drake looked down at himself and realized that he was wearing thin, plain plate armor. He had no weapons; his 'dimension master' weapons were gone. So was the armor he normally wore along with his robes. He tried to pull his book out of his storage cuff, but found he wasn't wearing it.

With a hunch, he tried one of his spells. He failed. "I have no magic. What's going on?" he whispered aloud to himself.

He worried about his friends, afraid that they were in the same predicament. Drake attempted to speak with his system, but nothing happened. It appeared he no longer had one. "Shit!" he hissed.

A soft glow began to swirl around him, then words appeared, and the soft voice he was familiar with echoed through the small chamber. The same voice in his system read the words, written with a soft white glow.

{Special Quest received: Clear the dungeon, defeat the dungeon boss, collect the loot, and find the Dungeon crystal. Quest rewards…}

{Special Quest restrictions: During the special quest, all powers will remain suppressed, and the system will remain unavailable.}

{Failure of special quest: consequences…}

Drake gulped. He had to do what he would call in one of his games back home, a dungeon raid. At least he knew he could clear the dungeon without having to try not to kill anything.

After picking up the bag, he slung it over his shoulder, then picked up the weapons. Drake placed them in the same manner he would carry his normal ones, except the bow and quiver, which he had to put on his back.

He had counted the arrows. There were fifteen. "I have to be careful with those," he thought to himself. He knew he had to retrieve the arrows when he could. He didn't want to run out. It wasn't like the bow with an endless supply of energy arrows.

With one last scan of the chamber, he went through the only opening there was.

Keeping his sword in one hand with a tight grip, he headed down the short tunnel. It was pitch black, only lighting up as he walked into the area.

He could feel figures around him, but they didn't move. Not until the thick darkness cleared. The first monster jumped out at him.

Drake immediately swung his sword, hacking at the monster; he swung the sharp blade back and forth, hitting the monster with each strike. The dungeon monster resembled a goblin, but it was worse. It was closer to the goblins in his games. This one was fairly easy to defeat. It took only three strikes.

Drake knew the moment the goblin monster had been defeated. Similar to the goblins in his games, they burst into a cloud of light particles.

As the light particles cleared, he could hear clinking metal as something landed on the hard ground. A small pile of gold was on the floor where he had defeated the goblin.

After putting the gold in his shoulder bag, he stepped backward. He wanted to test the shadows.

He noticed that the darkness in front of him remained, but what had cleared, making it visible, remained. He decided to test his suspicion. After going all the way back to the chamber where he started, his suspicions were confirmed. When the darkness was cleared, it stayed that way, and nothing would enter the light. If everything was killed in the light, it stayed that way. It was exactly like one of his games back home.

"That helps," Drake whispered to himself. "It tells me where I've cleared and where I still need to go."

Heading back down the small tunnel, he inched his way into the darkness. It cleared, lighting up with old torches on the wall. The flame flickered, casting menacing shadows.

Two more goblin monsters revealed themselves. One had a small axe while the other, a rusty sword. Drake switched hands, holding his sword, then uncoiled the thin whip. Lashing the whip out, he sliced through the two goblins. The whip easily cut through the two monsters, surprising him. He wasn't expecting it.

After the light particles vanished, below where he had defeated the two goblins, there was a small golden chest and a small pile of gold. Drake, without looking in the chest, put it and the gold into his shoulder bag.

He studied the area. There were no side tunnels to go down or doors to enter, so he continued forward. If it was anything like his games back home, the monsters in the dungeon would get harder to defeat the closer he got to the boss.

After lighting up the next area, there were two places he could go. One was down a short flight of stairs, and the other, continuing down the tunnel he was on.

Before he could decide quickly, two more goblin monsters appeared. They were coming up the stairs. He knew he had to clear the dungeon completely, so he elected to kill the two coming toward him and then go down the stairs to see what he could find.

The two goblin monsters were larger, and they wore crude armor.

Drake knew it would be a bad idea to fight them on the stairs, so he waited for them to get closer. He wanted to somewhat control the battle. As they stepped onto the top of the stairs, Drake lashed out with his whip, slicing one across the chest. The armor prevented serious damage. He slashed it again, this time hitting the monster in the neck, severing it. It burst into particles of light, and a chest appeared beneath where it had been defeated.

Ignoring the wooden chest, he went after the second goblin, lashing his whip, trying to take its head.

The goblin threw a dagger, narrowly missing him. "Shit, they have ranged attacks!" Drake shot out his whip again, barely hitting the goblin. It sliced through the monster's arm in the crease between his armor.
