Quickly lashing out his whip again, he aimed for the second club. This time, he missed, but it sliced across the goblin's chest, causing a thin line of blood to seep and drip down and onto the floor.
"Hold on tight," Drake told Jewel.
"Hold!" Jewel chirped back, gripping onto Drake's shirt.
The two goblins came forward. Whipped his whip back and forth, creating a shield of sharp metal, forcing the goblins to stay back.
With a sudden burst, using the momentum of the whip, he lashed it toward a goblin's thick neck. He struck at the center, slicing off its head. It began to fall, but burst into light particles as it did, never reaching the floor.
It didn't even faze the second goblin, who swung its club toward Drake, but he whipped his whip back and forth, creating another shield. It worked the first time, so Drake hoped it would work again. He didn't like these goblins. They were difficult to kill.
He kept swinging his whip until he could get in a good hit at its neck. It took a while, and his wrist was getting tired from the momentum of his whip.
He lashed out, striking the second goblin on its neck, finally getting in a hit. The goblin was unable to block it; the whip was too fast.
It sliced through its neck with ease before the goblin turned into a burst of light particles.
Cautiously, Drake moved toward the stairs again, then picked up the loot that the goblins had dropped. One of them was another bag, only a bit bigger, that was filled with meat chunks. It was too big to feed to Jewel, but it would help when she grew a bit bigger.
The second item of loot was a bladed stave. A button that, when its wielder held it, would release the blade and make it shoot out toward the enemy. Drake smiled; it was not only a close-range weapon, but a ranged one as well.
Replacing his whip, he held the bladed stave and looked into the darkness for more attackers. He didn't see any.
He slowly descended the stairs, keeping watch for something coming toward him. Nothing did.
The room was large and empty of everything except an emerald chest, the same size as his dragon's chest.
After scanning the room a second time, he walked to the chest and opened it. When he did, he smiled widely.
"It looks like you have armor," he beamed down at his dragon, Jewel.
Carefully pulling out the armor, he placed it on the dragon. The emerald green crystal melted and then formed around the baby dragon, fitting it perfectly.
He searched the chest again, finding nothing.
There wasn't a second set of stairs like the other chambers he had found. He went up the one he descended, then headed back through the darkness, letting it dissolve as he went.
There wasn't much farther for him to go. There were only two sets of armored goblins. The bladed stave proved to be beneficial in killing them. It appeared stronger than even his whip. The only loot the goblins dropped was coins. Drake didn't care. He had collected some exceptional items in the dungeon so far. He hoped that he would get to keep everything he received while clearing it.
He reached another split. One tunnel went to the left, while the other went to the right. He figured the one on the right would lead to the Boss, as he visualized the map of the dungeon he had cleared so far.
This time, he went to the left.
He was right in his assessment. It only went about seven feet in and was completely empty of monsters or beasts. However, there was a small box sitting on the floor where the tunnel ended.
When he looked inside the small box, it was a six-pack of potions. Pulling each potion out of the box, he read its label.
There were two of each: healing, strength, and speed.
His gaze went to the darkened area of the tunnel where he knew the boss would be. If the dungeon was leaving him potions like this, he knew the boss was strong. He would have to put them in a safe place, but easy to get to, in order to use them during the fight.
Heading back through the tunnel, he entered the dark area. There was only one lit area, which confirmed he was correct. It was the boss's chamber that he had found on the previous side of the dungeon.
There were no other attackers in the short distance of the tunnel that led to the boss. He was sure he had cleared the entire dungeon, with the exception of the boss chamber.
Drake sat on the floor and decided to rest for a while. He pulled out a pouch of meat and ate some of it. He knew he had been in the dungeon for a long time, and he was exhausted. Drake needed to rest.
After Drake and Jewel ate and then rested for a while, they drank some of the water. Jewel had some milk as well. She was a growing dragon after all.
Drake looked down at Jewel. "This is going to be a tough fight," he told her.
"Touch!" she chirped.
"I need you to hold on tight or hide where the boss can't get you," he told her quietly.
"Hide!" Jewel chirped. "Be safe!"
Drake sighed, standing up. He pulled out two of the potions. One was strength and the other speed. He didn't want to use the healing until he needed it.
Standing at the opening of the boss chamber, he took the two potions, putting the empty bottles back inside the box. He felt the strength and speed seep into his bones. A soft voice floated as glowing white words appeared in front of him.
{Strength potion will last for 24 hours. 50% increase in strength}
{Speed potion will last 24 hours. 50% increase in strength}
Drake had a thought. He took out the potions and took them.
Glowing words appeared, and the voice of the system echoed through the chamber.
{Strength potion will last for 48 hours. 100% increase in strength}
{Speed potion will last 48 hours. 100% increase in strength}
Drake smiled, then unlatched the strap on his sword, and uncoiled his whip, curling it back up as a lasso, hanging it over his sword's strap so it would be faster to grab if needed. He had to be careful. He only had two healing potions.
Taking a deep breath, he stepped in to face the dungeon boss.
