Drake sat on the floor beside the small golden chest and watched the egg. He gently rubbed its smooth surface as it slowly began to open. When it finally did, the eggs fell to the side, vanishing into a cloud of light particles.
Drake, seeing the cloud of light particles, was horrified, hoping that it was just the shell. The cloud of light was too thick to see the small beast beneath it.
When the light particles cleared, a little hiss sounded. Sitting on the soft pillow of emerald green silk was an emerald green baby dragon.
The baby looked up at Drake as he gently caressed its tiny head. "Hello, little one," he greeted the newborn dragon.
Carefully, Drake picked the dragon up and let it sit on his shoulder as he searched the chest for some food for the baby. He didn't have any and couldn't get the items he had in his dimension ring or storage items. "I hope food drops when I fight monsters so I can feed you. A baby dragon needs food," Drake whispered to the baby. "I think I'll name you Jewel. You look like a jewel."
Placing the chest in his bag, he stood up and went up the steps he had come from. He figured that within only a few feet in the tunnel, he would see the second set of stairs. The chamber was lit, so it would be easy to see as he walked past the second set of stairs.
Baby Jewel nuzzled Drake as he stepped off the staircase and headed into the dark area of the tunnel where he had left off.
Activating the night vision skill, he could see no beasts hiding in the tunnel. He did see the light coming off the second set of stairs, though.
Using his night vision skill, Drake could see that it was a straight shot for a long way down the tunnel. There was nothing to fight either… at least none he could see through his night vision.
He finally reached another split; one to the right and the other to the left. "I guess we go right," Drake told Jewel.
"Right!" the baby chirped.
Drake froze, then looked at the baby dragon. He gently rubbed her head before heading down the right tunnel. His mind was in a whirl of thoughts. The dragon had spoken.
The right tunnel was extremely short. It was barely eight feet long. There was nothing there to fight either.
Backtracking into the darkness, he headed down the opposite side. It wasn't very far either. When some of the darkness disappeared at the very edge of the massive chamber, he could see that it contained the boss. Stepping backward, not wanting to clear any more of the darkness, he whispered to Jewel. "We need to go back and clear the left side of the tunnel."
"Boss!" Jewel chirped quietly, hiding under Drake's long black hair. The little dragon shivered in fear.
Rushed back down the tunnel, he watched for beasts that would strike out at him. It was strange that there were no more beasts. He went a long way and found nothing.
When he reached the large split in the tunnel before he fought the spiders, he slowly entered the darkness. It dissipated as he walked forward. Torches ignited. A goblin rushed forward toward Drake. Drake pulled his whip and lashed it toward the goblin. It sliced through its neck with ease.
The goblin turned into light particles, and a small bag fell in its place. Drake carefully picked up the back, keeping watch for more goblins, but none came out. He looked in the bag, then smiled. He pulled out a small cube of meat and offered it to Jewel.
She gulped it down quickly.
"Yummy!" Jewel chirped. "More!"
Drake pulled out another cube, continuing until Jewel was full. When she was full, he placed the small bag into his storage bag and continued into the darkness.
Using his night vision, he could see all the goblins hiding in the depths of the tunnel. He had an idea, but wasn't sure if it would work.
Wrapping his whip around his wrist, used his bow, notching an arrow. He aimed at the goblins in the darkness. Aiming for the closest one, he shot. When it hit, the tunnel's torches lit up as the goblin burst into light particles.
Rapidly, Drake shot his bow until he ran out of arrows before walking forward. He had killed all the goblins that were in the light of the tunnel. There were more in the darkness, but he needed to collect his arrows and loot first.
As he went, he collected his loot, which consisted mainly of coins. There were several more bags of food, along with one that was a skin filled with water, and another with milk.
What he didn't realize was that each bag produced an endless supply of its contents. Each food bag contained a different type of food. There were fruits, vegetables, grains, and meat. There was even one with cubes of cheese.
Jewel was all set with food.
It wasn't long before Drake found another short flight of stairs. It went down into another chamber. Cautiously, Drake stepped toward the stairs, trying to get the beasts and monsters inside to come up the stairs. He didn't want to fight them on the stairs. It was too difficult to defend himself in that sort of situation.
Nothing came up. They remained at the bottom of the stairs waiting for him to come down. "Damn it!" he hissed to himself.
He didn't want to teach the Jewel how to use curse words.
Replacing his bow, he let his whip uncoil. He took two steps onto the steps, then stepped back up, returning to the tunnel at the top of the stairs. Finally, one goblin came up the stairs. It was one of the stronger goblins, wearing armor. Behind it, another one followed. Each swung their clubs at Drake at the same time.
Drake swung his whip, wrapping it around one club and yanking. It flew out of the goblin's hand, leaving it without a weapon.
