At the Runestone, the tall figure stared at the carved runes covering the surface of the large monolith. Blood dripped from its top all the way down its base.
The figure continued to try to touch the Runestone, wanting the magic before the heirs arrived. He knew it would take them a long time to walk to the clearing because they had never been there before. They could only teleport to places they had actually been to, nowhere else.
The figure circled the stone, not knowing what else to try. He knew there was a way to steal their power after they completed the quest, but the golden troll egg had already hatched. There would never be another one until the baby grew up and produced one of her own.
Three shadows passed over him as he stared at the stone, trying to figure out what to do next to try to touch the stone.
As the shadows grew larger, the man flinched, then looked up toward the sky. It was already too late. He was surrounded by dragons. There were three of them.
"Ah… What do we have here?" Drake asked the man on the ground in front of Jewel.
The man looked up, his face pale as he stared at the 'dimension master' heir.
The blue dragon spoke. "Bad man wants power."
Althea, the white dragon, spoke. "Aura dark. Very dark."
Jewel remained silent, letting her master speak. Drake smiled. "You came here to steal the power of the Runestone. Remove your hood so we can see who you are," Drake ordered.
The man stepped back, but Jewel blew out a puff of hot air and forced the hood to fall off. Drake's eyes widened in result. "You're the mayor of Storm Town!"
Drake never got his name; they were too busy dealing with the problem. When they confronted him before, he never gave it either.
The man laughed. "That's my twin. He's an idiot."
"And you are?" Mike asked sarcastically. He hated people like him. He knew the man in front of them thought highly of himself.
Drake jumped off Jewel's back and walked closer to the man, who stepped back. Folding his arms across his chest, he smiled wickedly at the man. "You will answer Mike. What is your name?"
Without saying anything, the man's hand shot out, holding a short black dagger. Drake easily stepped to the side. His super speed and strength were still in effect. It only took twenty minutes to reach the Runestone while flying on their dragons.
Bloodlust thickened around the man. He wanted to kill Drake. Drake laughed as the man lunged again. "You're trying to kill me while all three of us are here. Both of our familiars are with us, and we have three dragons that could take a bite out of you. I doubt they would want to, but still. It's a possibility."
Immediately, Thor shot out a lightning bolt at the man. It was so strong, the man caught fire and burst into flames.
He screamed, trying to pat out the flames.
"Tuck and roll," Mike called. They taught it in school that it was a way to put out flames if you ever caught on fire.
The man didn't listen; he just kept patting at the flames, making it worse. Each time he patted at his clothes, it spread the flames farther.
Chad sighed, stroking the top of his dragon. Althea puffed out at the man, putting out the flames and healing the burns.
Renn and Ruby leaped off Drake's shoulder and transformed into their beast forms.
The man, realizing he was no longer burning, immediately sneered and lunged toward Drake, who dodged to the side. His arms were still folded across his chest. The wicked grin remained as he silently wished the extra strength and speed wouldn't fade when the time ran out.
"Seriously?" Mike laughed. "This guy is an idiot. We could have let him burn to death, but we saved him, and he still attacks us. Doesn't he know the rules of this place? If he attacks us, we can kill him. I can feel the bloodlust coming off him from here. He's out for blood."
Renn could feel it too. Her eyes narrowed at the man, then leaped, gripping him by the head and dragging him completely out of the clearing.
Drake knew why. He could feel it. He couldn't even kill attackers in the clearing where the Runestone was. It would be disrespectful. That's why he dodged the man's attacks rather than just killing him on the spot.
{A member of your cohort has killed a thief.}
{Rewards gained}
{All members of the cohort will receive +10 in all stats}
Energy flooded all members of the cohort, which included the dragons.
Mike smiled widely. "I really like the stat boosts we get. I feel a lot stronger than before."
Renn walked back to the group. When she finally returned, all eyes went to the Runestone. The blood that dripped from the massive stone and the carved runes began to glow with a soft green light.
"Now what?" Chad asked. "The quest is to find the Runestone and obtain the Master Power. How do we do that?"
Drake smiled, knowing what to do. It was by instinct. "We all touch it at once."
Mike and Chad jumped off their dragons, then all three transformed into their smallest forms. Renn and Ruby did the same.
The beasts and dragons surrounded the stone, ready to touch it. Mike, Chad, and Drake raised one of their hands. "On three, we all touch it as one, and don't let go until I tell you to," Drake said, then counted down. "One… two… three…"
All eight of them touched the stone as one. The runes glowed brighter, splitting into eight separate beams of soft green light, then shot out toward each of them, touching the stone.
The Runestone faded in green light, splitting into eight beams. Then shot forward, entering all eight of them. When it was done, the Runestone was gone, and all glowed with a soft green light.
The glow flickered before dimming as he entered deeper into their soul.

Drake smiled at his friends. "We are all maxed out in level and stats. That includes our cohort, familiars, and allies. I'm not sure if it includes the dragons because I didn't get a notification that I received a new member of the cohort or a familiar, so I'm not sure. So… do you want to fly to Draco Town, or do you want me to teleport us there?"
