Dimension Master

Chapter 93: 93: Conversations Pt1

Drake stood in front of Nana's door. He had already knocked, letting her know that he was there. He could hear muffled footsteps as they came closer to answer the door.

The door opened, and Nana stood looking out. Her eyes scanned the boys before going back to Drake. Nelly ran from behind her, jumping into Drake's arms. He pulled her up and held her, smiling softly.

"I promised to tell you about how we met Brenn," Drake started. "Can we go in the back and sit on the grass. I like to keep Renn and Ruby close. They can't fit through the door."

Nana nodded as she quickly stepped out of her home and called for Tod. She kept the two children close after Nelly had been kidnapped. Once he came outside, Nana closed the door and ushered them to follow her out back in a large grassy area that was her yard.

Renn immediately lay down on the grass and rested her large snout on her massive paws, while Ruby lowered herself with her belly resting on the grass. They were getting comfortable in case the conversation was going to be a long one.

Nana had spread a blanket on the grass that she had hanging over a wooden bench before sitting on it. Tod sat beside her, resting his head on her shoulder.

Drake sat on the grass next to his familiars while Mike and Chad sat beside him.

Drake sighed before he explained. "When we got home into our world, we decided to go shopping for a toy that would be compatible with what you have in this dimension. We first went to a toy store, looking for toys. We wanted to get Nelly a new doll and a wooden toy for Tod. They didn't have anything we wanted. They were all made of material not found in this dimension. One of the sales ladies told us about a toy shop that had only handmade toys. We decided to go there. There was a man at the counter who asked us what we wanted. I told him that we needed something old-fashioned. Something that could be found in an old western movie."

"What's a movie?" Nana asked. She didn't know what a movie was, so she asked him what it was, so that she would understand what Drake was talking about.

"In our world, a movie is a play. It's a performance of actors, acting out a story for an audience. It's just like that," Drake explained.

Nana nodded. "It's a theater performance; A skit. Right?" she asked.

Drake nodded. "He first showed us the dolls, which were perfect for Nelly. I chose one that looked like her," he explained. "I thought she might like one that resembled her. After that, he took us to a shelf full of wooden toys. There was a wooden carriage that was drawn by horses. Horses are one of the animals in our world. I'm not sure if you have them here. Anyway, I asked him if he had the same thing only pulled by a large wolf," Drake explained, then turned to look at his familiar, then back at Nana. "He looked at me strangely before taking me to a cabinet where he had carved wooden items. He pulled out one that was a wolf-beast. It's what I ended up buying. He knew who we were. Apparently, we look like our fathers. He somehow made the connection."

Nana gasped softly, holding her hand over her mouth. She was trying not to cry as she listened to Drake talk about her brother.

Drake continued. "In talking to him, I mentioned that the toys were for two children in Draco Town, and he said that he was from here. He said that he had a sister here named Nana. I explained the connections to you, Nelly, and Tod. He wanted me to let you know that he was alive and to say hi." He finished. Then, as an afterthought, he added. "If you want to write him, I'll wait here. We need to leave, so you should write it now if you can. I can also give him a verbal message. I wanted to stop and see him, to let him know I did what he asked."

Nana nodded. "Wait here," she said, then got up and rushed into the house, leaving Tod and Nelly with Drake and his cohort.

Nearly ten minutes later, she rushed out and handed Drake a folded bit of parchment with a wax seal. "Give this to him… please," she said, smiling, as Drake took the parchment from her. Her eyes were red. She had been crying while she wrote to her long-lost brother.

Drake handed the now sleeping Nelly over to Nana and stepped back away from her.

Immediately, Chad and Mike stood next to him as Renn and Ruby picked themselves off the grass, ready to go to the ordinary world with Drake.

He slammed the staff into the ground. The bright green light flashed. When it faded, they were all scrunched inside the large garage that his dad had kept empty due to Renn's size. They needed a large enough place for her to arrive in without being outside where people could see her.

Immediately, Ruby began to shrink. She was the size and appearance of a desert scorpion. The only thing that revealed she wasn't one was her glowing green eyes.

Renn leaped onto Drake's shoulder. Ruby, seeing what Renn had done, did the same.

Drake turned to his friends. "Let's get our supplies. Chad, can you fill your ring with sandwiches again? I'll add some to my book. You, having them turned out to be beneficial. I think it might have saved us. When we need to let our dads know we're back and see if we can get them to have supplies brought here again, we can go over and talk to Bren, and then we can return to the dimension.

With everyone agreeing, they filed out of the garage. Chad and Mike headed home to shower, change, and prepare to return to the dimension.

Drake headed to his own room. When he opened the door, their fathers were sitting in front of the computer screen. They all turned to look at who had entered the room. "We need supplies again. I want to collect the same supplies every time we return."

Drake's dad nodded. "I still have the list. I get it delivered." His eyes moved, looking behind Drake. "Where are Chad and Mike?"

"They went home to shower, change, and get things ready to go back. We want to get our quests done as quickly as possible."

With relief, their fathers stood and left, heading to find their sons. Drake's father stayed in the room. He still needed to speak with him.

When the others were gone, Drake's father ushered him to sit. "We saw you gained another beast," he started.

Drake nodded. "Familiars. They are familiars. If they're not familiars, they're allies. I can only bring familiars into this world. Renn is my wolf, but in this world, she is a rat. You already know her. Ruby is a scorpion beast, but in this world, she is a desert scorpion. I'm allied with her hive. I don't think that scorpions have hives, but scorpion beasts do. It makes it a little confusing. It's like finding a solitary bee in one world, where in the other world they are in a hive." Drake shrugged. Not sure why he even started mumbling about his beasts.

The Dimension master sat back in his chair and stared at Drake. "You seem to be gaining a lot of beasts. While you were in the tunnels, some things were different. I wanted to know why that was and what made you guys look like something was in the tunnels with you."

Drake sighed. "I don't know what would be different because I don't know what the quest was for you. As for why we were acting like something was with us, that's because there was. We felt an overwhelming pressure of unease. It was thick, almost like it was a physical feeling. After a while, we started getting a cold chill from the feel of unease. It felt sinister. I know something was following us, but in the morning, after we woke up in the Chamber of Knowledge, we stopped feeling it. The feeling just left."

Drake's father nodded. "Be careful when you go to your next quest. It seems like others are trying their best to stop you from completing them. I have another question. You took over a day longer than you should have. The clock should have started the moment you left the tavern. When you completed the quest, you were already at day seven. The quest should have been a five-day quest. I don't understand what happened."

"After we saved Nelly, our timer reset. The moment the last kidnapper was killed, the clock reset. It was a reward for saving Nelly."
