Dimension Master

Chapter 95: 95: A Warning

Drake continued to store all the items that his father had sent over for him. It was four times more than the last time. He was happy about that; the more supplies they had, the better. They could stay longer without relying on the dimension's resources.

They worked for over an hour, storing and organizing the items in his book so things would be easy to find or easy to get to if they only needed one or two items at a time. If they were stuck in a small space, trying to take out a pallet wouldn't work. They needed to get to things easily.

As Drake placed his last pallet into his book, his gut twisted. His hand flew up, grasping his abdomen as he groaned in pain. "Shit, something's wrong!" he choked out, trying to take a breath. It eased slowly, allowing him to stand upright and breathe normally. However, his gut ached, warning him that something was wrong.

All eyes turned to Drake as he slumped forward, holding his gut. His father, seeing what was happening to his son, quickly ran into the house. When he came back, he was holding the glowing orb. It was glowing with a bright shade of red, showing something was happening in the dimension.

"It won't show me what's wrong. It only shows that there is something wrong, but nothing else," his father frowned. It was supposed to show him what was wrong so that he could fix it. It didn't, though, which worried him. This was the second incident that happened with no explanation of what was wrong.

Drake walked over, clinching his gut. He took the orb and, peering into its depths, he tried to see what was happening in the dimension. All he saw was the glow of red mist and nothing else. He didn't know what was wrong either. "My gut says this is a warning and I need to go deal with it."

Drake's father frowned. "Your gut says you need to deal with it? If it's a warning, wouldn't it be telling you that you need to stay here for now?"

Drake looked at his father. "So far, my gut feeling has never let me down. I know this is a warning. I can feel it. I also know that I can't hide from whatever is going on. I have to deal with it." He scanned his friends. "We have to deal with it."

Drake and his friends ran into the house to change into their dimension clothes and armor. They had their weapons strapped to them and were prepared to leave. They had already placed everything in the storage book, so all they had to do was leave.

"Renn, Ruby… I think you need to transform back into your beast form when we get there. I don't know what's going on. As soon as we're there, transform unless your own instincts tell you not to. I don't want either of you to get hurt," he told his familiars, before rushing back inside the garage where their fathers were waiting.

They were dressed as well, ready to go to the dimension. Even his father had his robes on and his staff in his hand, ready to teleport them. Drake looked at him in confusion. He knew that for their quests, their fathers couldn't get involved. It was one of the unspoken laws of going through the ascension process.

"I asked the orb if we needed to help. The orb showed us that we do, but we can't help you with your ascension quest. What's happening doesn't seem to have anything to do with your quest. Although I didn't feel the urgency that you do, I consulted with the orb. The dimension is allowing us to help you deal with the situation." His father explained. "If it had told us not to, there would have been nothing we could do. It permitted us, so let's go and do what needs to be done."

Drake nodded, then quickly slammed his staff into the ground. The bright emerald green light burst out, then faded. When the light had gone, they were standing at the welcome sign leading into Draco Town. Drake had brought all of them there.

It was already dark out. The sliver of the moon was casting a soft, dim light onto the town. Shadows flickered in the moon's light as they entered the small town.

The streets were empty, and the lights were dimmed, which was normal for Draco Town during the current hour. The eerie silence was not, however.

Renn and Ruby leaped off his shoulder and transformed into their beast form. They headed off in different directions, searching the town for life. Drake let his eyes glow, prompting his friends to do the same.

He scanned the town. "I don't see any signs of life," Drake stated, his voice strained. It was clear that he was worried. The first place he looked was towards Nana's home. He was worried about Nelly. It seemed to be a never-ending trauma for the poor little girl.

"Don't go into the tavern, let us do that," his father stated, just before Drake and his friends were about to search the town on foot. "If you go into the tavern, your quest will start when you leave it. I don't know if the third quest is timed. I don't remember, but just in case, don't go in there. I will go to the tavern myself."

Drake nodded absently as he scanned the town. He understood the situation. He knew that if the quest started while he was trying to handle the current situation, he would fail, and the dimension would have to find a new bloodline to protect the dimension. His gut, however, told him that if he and his friends died, the dimension was doomed.

He headed off toward the inn, searching the homes and shops on his way. Chad and Mike both separated, going in their own directions, searching all of the shops and the residences as they went. They were searching the entire town, trying to find what had happened to the people.

Renn and Ruby went from one home to another, searching for any signs of life or bodies to tell them what happened to the people of Draco Town. They found nothing. Using their mental link, they let Drake know that there were no signs of the citizens of Draco Town.

There was nothing for them to find. Mike and Chad, using their magical vision, could find no signs of anyone or evidence that led them to what had happened to the people.

After a complete search of the town, leaving the tavern for last, Drake's father looked over at him. "I'll look in the tavern. Everything else has been checked already. It's the last place to search."

Drake's father rushed into the tavern, and his own cohort followed. They stood outside waiting for him to return. When he came out, he was holding a piece of parchment. Written in blood was a single sentence.

If you are worthy heirs, save them all.

Drake watched his father exit the tavern; his face was pale. After rushing up to Drake, his father handed him the parchment, but didn't say anything.

He looked down at the words, his own face paling as he read what was written on them in blood. His hands fell to his side, his face pale as he looked over at his friends. Before he could say anything, the soft voice of his system spoke through his mind.

{Quest received: Save the people of Draco Town}

{Quest Conditions: Work with the Dimension Master and his cohort to complete the quest}

Drake looked up at his father. "Did you receive it too?"

"I didn't receive anything. What did you get?" he asked his son.

Drake scanned his friends, then their fathers. "I received a quest to save the people of Draco Town. There was a condition. It said that I had to work with the dimension master and his cohort to complete the quest. That means all of us have to work together to save them."

The soft voice of his system gave another message, causing his face to turn completely white.

{Quest Warning: Do Not Fail the Quest / Quest failure results in the Death of the dimension master bloodline as well as their cohorts' bloodline.}

{Ascension quest: Ascension quest will be withheld until the quest's completion: Save the people of Draco Town}

"What's wrong?" his father asked, seeing how pale Drake's face was.

Drake's voice was barely a whisper. "If we fail the quest, our bloodlines will die. My system also says that the ascension quest will be withheld until the quest to save the people of Draco Town is complete. I think that we need to hurry before anything happens to them. Our duty is to the people. We need to save them. It may be a quest, but even without the quest, it's our duty to save them, or die trying."
