A Bumpy Road to Power

Chapter 265: The Enigmatic Caden Dixon

The conversation had reached this point.

Caden Dixon had to speak up, or he wouldn't be able to get past it.

He snorted coldly and said, "Secretary Walsh, regardless of the outcome, don't we have to wait for the test report to be released? Don't you think your current attitude seems a bit biased?"

"Is that so? Then I'll just sit here and wait. Whenever the report comes out, that's when you can take Comrade Dirk Carter away."

After saying this.

He plopped down on the sofa.

Caden Dixon glanced at Vincent Eames, signaling him to step out for a moment.

Just as Vincent Eames was about to leave,

Brock Walsh coughed.

He said, "I said I'd sit here and wait. Not until the report comes out can anyone here leave."

This effectively prevented Vincent Eames from leaving.

Everyone had no choice but to settle down and wait patiently.

The wait lasted nearly an hour.

Suddenly, Vincent Eames's phone rang.

Everyone's eyes fell on him simultaneously.

Vincent Eames took out his phone and said, "It's from the testing department."

Caden Dixon immediately said, "Answer it, put it on speaker so Secretary Walsh can hear too."

He was still quite confident as he said this.

"Hello, speak."

Vincent Eames pressed the answer button and said.

A voice over the phone said, "Reporting to Captain Eames, the test on the liquid on the underwear is out, it's body wash."

This response.

Left nearly everyone at the scene dumbfounded.

Especially Vincent Eames, who asked in disbelief, "Say that again, what is it?"

"It's body wash. We've checked, and it matches the body wash used at the suspect's home."

The voice over the phone repeated.

This time, there was complete silence.

Brock Walsh slapped the arm of the sofa, stood up, and said, "Captain Eames, two arrests, two setups, I have every reason to doubt whether you can still serve as the captain of this criminal investigation team?"

The once-confident Vincent Eames now had vacant eyes.

He didn't know how to respond for a moment.

Brock Walsh sneered and said, "This matter, I will report truthfully to Secretary Sawyer. It seems our Kenton County's legal and political system needs a proper review."

This statement made Troy Kane shudder.

A matter as small or significant as this, if investigated from above, could cost him his position as Secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Commission.

Having figured this out.

He immediately said, "Rest assured, Secretary Walsh, since this issue arose within our public security bureau, we will certainly address it."

After speaking.

He looked at Vincent Eames and said, "Captain Eames, in my capacity as Secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Commission, I am suspending all your current duties, pending the assessment of the political department."

Upon hearing this command, Vincent Eames.

He was momentarily dazed.

He opened his mouth as if to speak but ultimately swallowed his words.

The farce concluded.

It was initially thought Dirk Carter would be caught without resistance this time, but unexpectedly, there was a turning point at the crucial moment. If Brock Walsh hadn't come, Vincent Eames wouldn't have faced any issues, but since Brock Walsh did come, it meant Conway Sawyer had intervened to protect Dirk Carter.

Since when did Dirk Carter become associated with Conway Sawyer?

Caden Dixon watched the two figures fade into the distance, mysteriously displaying a satisfied smile.

Following Brock Walsh.

The two walked out of the county government building.

Finding a secluded place.

Dirk Carter said, "Thank you, Secretary Walsh."

At this moment, Brock Walsh's face turned cold, and he said, "I'm merely executing the orders given by the leadership. The leaders also asked me to convey their hope that you fulfill your promise. If you can't, you should be aware of the consequences, right?"

"Please pass on to the leadership that they can rest assured, as long as I've spoken it, I, Dirk Carter, can certainly accomplish it."

"Let's hope so."

Brock Walsh left him with this statement and then directly got into a car and left.

Came swiftly.

Left swiftly.

Dirk Carter let out a long sigh.

Turning to look at the window of the county government building.

There, Caden Dixon stood at the window, meeting his gaze through the glass.

"Old Caden, should we report this to Mayor Levin?"

In the office, Troy Kane asked nervously.

Caden Dixon had a sullen face, shook his head, and said, "Of course, this is a good thing for us."

"A good thing? What do you mean?"

Troy Kane asked puzzled.

Caden Dixon chuckled and said, "Do you think that old fox Kelton Levin would completely trust us?"

Troy Kane thought for a moment and asked, "Wouldn't he?"

"Of course not. He may seem to trust us heavily now, but in reality, it's for Bjorn Dixon. He wants to leverage our influence to help Bjorn Dixon quickly establish himself in Kenton County. Regarding the matter with Charlotte Ramey, Dirk Carter is a key player. Why didn't he let Bjorn Dixon tackle Dirk Carter directly? It's because he wants to use someone else's hand to do his dirty work. Once we eliminate Dirk Carter, our value is gone. By that time, Kelton Levin would have Bjorn Dixon reclaim our influence."

"Dirk Carter is smart. When he sees through the situation, I knew he would find a backer to protect himself. In Ardmore City, the only one who can contend with Kelton Levin is Secretary Conway Sawyer. Since Secretary Sawyer stepped in, our failure this time isn't due to a lack of capability."

Upon hearing this.

Troy Kane somewhat realized.

He asked, "So, you want to use Dirk Carter to protect ourselves?"

Caden Dixon smiled faintly and said, "Not only to protect ourselves, but we also stir up a fight between Dirk Carter and Bjorn Dixon, letting both sides exhaust each other while we benefit."

Troy Kane furrowed his brows and asked, "But Dirk Carter is just an education bureau director. Can he really contend with Bjorn Dixon? Isn't this like a chicken egg hitting a rock?"

Caden Dixon laughed and said, "Charlotte Ramey was a vice mayor, yet she was taken down by Dirk Carter, wasn't she?"

Troy Kane pondered and felt it made sense.

After the calmness returned.

Caden Dixon exited the county government building.

He hailed a taxi, took a random tour around the county, and then stopped at an intersection.

He stood by the roadside, observing before walking into the little woods behind the street.

He lit a cigarette, hadn't taken a few puffs when footsteps sounded from behind.

Caden Dixon turned abruptly and saw a young man already behind him.

"Is anyone following?"

Caden Dixon asked.

The young man shook his head and said, "I'm just out for a walk."

Caden Dixon nodded and said, "You didn't leave any loopholes in this matter, right? Dirk Carter is very astute, even a small detail can arouse his suspicions."

The young man smiled and said, "No, I believe he wouldn't be suspicious."

"That's good. Just follow the original plan, maintain contact with Dirk Carter, and under no circumstances let anything happen to him. That individual strikes viciously, and to achieve his goals, he will stop at nothing."

Caden Dixon said.

The young man was taken aback and asked, "You're saying he'll make a move on Dirk Carter?"

Caden Dixon nodded and said, "Transferring Dirk Carter to Kenton County's Education Bureau was initially a risky move. Donal Lewis and I both believed that given Dirk Carter's nature, he would certainly take action against Charlotte Ramey. Unfortunately, we overestimated Rasco Shaw's feelings for Charlotte Ramey. We assumed that if Charlotte encountered difficulties, Rasco Shaw would surely intervene. If he did, we could counteract. But the result was not as we expected. Under no circumstances can we let Rasco Shaw advance any further. Therefore, I must risk my life in the tiger's den."

The young man asked, "Aren't you afraid that what happened to Dylan Tate might happen again on you?"

Caden Dixon's eyes, however, became resolute.

He sighed and said, "Dylan Tate spent a long time gaining Rasco Shaw's trust, only to fail at the last moment. Over the years, I've been building an insatiable persona for the same purpose. Now that this burden falls on me, I naturally have to shoulder it fully."

The young man remained silent for a while.

He let out a long breath and said, "Executive Director Dixon, rest assured, as Professor Carter's student, I, Arlo Yarbrough, will also do my utmost to protect Dirk Carter. At critical moments, I'm willing to sacrifice my life."

Caden Dixon nodded with satisfaction, looking into the distance as he said, "I hope that when the truth comes to light, Dirk Carter won't hold a grudge against me..."
