Chapter 773: Chapter 773: Kissing Her in Public (Part 1)

Before Vera Xavier could say a word, Sheldon Caldwell, who was standing behind her, spoke with a look of disdain. "Leo Lane, you’ve gone too far. Trying to poach my student right in front of me? Have you no shame?"

Leo Lane, the head instructor from a rival university, said coolly, "With a talent this promising, I’m afraid you’ll lead her astray!"

"You’re giving me too much credit!" Sheldon Caldwell let out a long sigh. "Even if I wanted to lead her astray, I wouldn’t be able to. She’s always had a mind of her own. By the way, since you’re here trying to poach her, do you even know what she scored on her college entrance exams?"

Leo Lane was stumped. In his mind, a girl who performed so exceptionally in the competition couldn’t possibly have good grades. After all, it was a common stereotype: girls with good grades weren’t very coordinated, and vice versa.

Sheldon Caldwell had no intention of letting Leo guess. He revealed the answer directly: "A perfect score in every subject!"

This time, Leo Lane was truly stunned. He looked at Vera Xavier with curiosity, but she just said a bit bashfully, "I just thought being the provincial top scholar would be pretty cool, so I decided to go for it. Then I sort of accidentally got a perfect score in every subject. It’s no big deal, you don’t have to be so surprised."

Leo Lane suddenly felt a bit faint. ’Accidentally get a perfect score? Could someone let me have an "accident" like that?’

Sheldon Caldwell, who was more familiar with Vera Xavier, chuckled at the sight. "Vera, why don’t you tell Lane Leader how you managed to hit a perfect ten-ring score?"

"Oh, that. It was because I didn’t want to get punished with running laps by Instructor Caldwell, so I just... accidentally hit it," Vera said earnestly.

What she said was, for the most part, true. Sheldon Caldwell would make them run laps at the drop of a hat. Toward the end, the training intensity had become so immense that she was genuinely exhausted and just didn’t want to run anymore. And according to Instructor Caldwell’s standards, the only way to avoid running laps was to be perfect at everything.

Leo Lane felt like he might have just met a monster. He instinctively glanced at Vera Xavier again. The girl before him was impossibly beautiful.

A girl like her would often be dismissed as just a pretty face, because many people who can get by on their looks tend to slack off a bit, their desire to rely on actual skill not quite as strong.

But the young woman before him was clearly shattering that common perception. She wasn’t just as beautiful as a flower—her skills were terrifyingly formidable!

Seeing Leo Lane’s dumbstruck expression, Sheldon Caldwell instantly felt a sense of vindication. ’See? I can’t be the only one who gets shocked by her.’

He reached out and clapped Leo Lane on the shoulder. "Don’t you think it would be a waste to toss a talent with the potential to be an outstanding scientist into your program? So just respect her choice!"

Vera Xavier corrected him, "I don’t want to be a scientist. I want to be a doctor."

Sheldon Caldwell: "..."

Seeing Sheldon Caldwell’s reaction, Leo Lane started to laugh. He could tell now that even though Sheldon was Vera’s head instructor, she clearly wasn’t the type to hang on his every word.

Sheldon Caldwell looked at Vera Xavier and said, "What did we talk about before we came here?"

Vera Xavier immediately played along. "Yes, Head Instructor, sir! My dream is to become an outstanding scientist and dedicate my entire life to that pursuit!"

Sheldon Caldwell gave a slight nod and said sternly, "Focus on the upcoming events. Don’t get arrogant. Aim for first place in all of them."
