Chapter 666 - 325: A More Relaxed Tactic

Chapter 666: Chapter 325: A More Relaxed Tactic

With the two of them working together, the tide of battle gradually turned.

The members of the Thunder Eagle Squad began to fall back steadily, and it was clear they couldn’t hold on much longer.

Near the objective, the fight between Li Chang’an and Du Feng was reaching a fever pitch.

Du Feng’s longsword already had several fine nicks in it, while Li Chang’an’s Saw Chain Sword remained exceptionally sharp.

With every clash, Du Feng could feel an immense force travel up from his blade, making his wrist go slightly numb.

"Is this all you’ve got?"

Li Chang’an’s voice was calm, but his movements grew even sharper.

Du Feng’s expression was grim. Gritting his teeth, he let out a low growl and suddenly launched a fierce assault, trying to disrupt Li Chang’an’s rhythm with a series of rapid strikes.

However, Li Chang’an moved as if he could see the future, parrying every attack with precision. He even managed to counterattack several times in the openings, forcing Du Feng to fall back repeatedly.

"Your moves aren’t bad, but they’re too rigid!"

Li Chang’an said nonchalantly as his Saw Chain Sword swung out, cleanly severing the dagger Du Feng had tried to use as a distraction.

The look in Du Feng’s eyes changed. He knew he was now at a complete disadvantage.

He fell back abruptly, trying to create some distance.

"Trying to run?"

Li Chang’an sneered. Stomping his foot, he shot toward Du Feng like an arrow.

His Saw Chain Sword traced a gleaming arc as it flew straight for Du Feng’s chest.

Du Feng gritted his teeth and raised his sword to parry, but he was completely overwhelmed by Li Chang’an’s strength and speed.

The strike forced him back into a corner, his longsword nearly knocked from his grasp.

"Give up. You’ve already lost!"

Li Chang’an stood before him, the tip of his Saw Chain Sword pointed at Du Feng’s throat.

Du Feng’s face was ashen, but in the end, he resignedly lowered the longsword in his hand.

"I surrender!"

As Du Feng surrendered, the whistle signaling the end of the match blew.

"The Insect Hunter Squad wins!"

Liu Na’s voice came over the loudspeaker.

Hearing the result, Sun Yang immediately flopped onto the ground and shouted.

"Awesome! I finally don’t have to clean the training grounds!"

Han Ruoxi rolled her eyes, wiping away sweat as she retorted.

"You have such low standards. I knew we were going to win!"

Shen Qiuyue sheathed her longsword, walked over to the objective, and said coolly.

"Our teamwork was decent, but we need to fine-tune some details!"

Li Chang’an walked over, and the corners of his mouth lifted slightly as he glanced at his panting squadmates.

"Good job. Everyone performed very well today!"

"Captain, wasn’t my performance particularly outstanding this time?"

Sun Yang sidled up, asking with a fawning expression.

"Not bad. You can do even better next time!"

Li Chang’an replied casually, then turned to Han Ruoxi.

"Tomorrow, debrief today’s battle and identify a few areas for improvement!"

"No problem!"

Han Ruoxi nodded.

The members of the Thunder Eagle Squad were clearly still sore about their loss, but Du Feng walked up to Li Chang’an and said in a low voice.

"I lost today, but next time, I’ll definitely win!"

"Anytime."

Li Chang’an gave a faint smile, then turned and left.

That afternoon, the Insect Hunter Squad returned to their dorms. They had just sat down and hadn’t even had a chance to catch their breath when their communicators suddenly rang.

A short message popped up on the screen.

"Insect Hunter Squad, assemble in the command room in ten minutes. You have an emergency mission!"

Sun Yang, who was holding a barbecue skewer, nearly dropped it on the floor when he saw the message.

He froze for a second, then shouted.

"What? An emergency mission?! You’ve got to be kidding me! We just finished a mock battle and haven’t even had a chance to breathe!"

"You’re all talk!"

Han Ruoxi shot him a glance, then stood up and started organizing her gear.

"It’s not like we have a say in emergency missions. Hurry up and get ready, and stop dawdling!"

"Is a little human decency too much to ask? Can’t they just let us rest for one afternoon?"

Sun Yang muttered, but he still reluctantly stood up and began to ready his weapons.

Shen Qiuyue, who had already put on her gloves, said coldly,

"Complaining is useless. Since it’s an emergency mission, there can be no delays.

You’d better not waste any time, or Commander Liu will have you mopping floors!"

"Alright, alright, Sister Shen is right. I’ll shut up!"

Sun Yang hurriedly slung his gear on his back and sighed mournfully.

"But what do I do with my skewers? It’d be such a waste to throw them out!"

"Bring them. That way you won’t be whining about starving to death later!"

Li Chang’an said nonchalantly. He had already shouldered his gear and was standing at the door, waiting for the team to assemble.

"Captain Li, you really get me!"

Sun Yang excitedly stuffed the skewers into a pocket of his combat suit and followed the squad out the door.

A few minutes later, the Insect Hunter Squad arrived at the command room on time.

Liu Na was already waiting inside, flanked by the commanders of several other squads.

The holographic map on the table displayed an area where a red dot was blinking incessantly.

"You’re here!"

Liu Na glanced at them and got straight to the point.

"We just received intel. We’ve detected Insect Race activity in a forest region fifty kilometers west of the base.

This isn’t an ordinary scout unit but a medium-sized swarm, numbering between twenty and thirty. It might even include a command unit!"

"A medium-sized swarm?"

Han Ruoxi frowned.

"Does that mean we’re the main force? Or are we supporting other squads?"

"Just your squad this time."

Liu Na’s tone was flat, but her gaze was grave.

"The other squads are on their own missions and can’t be reassigned.

This region is a considerable distance from the base. If we don’t clear it out promptly, the swarm could threaten our nearby supply routes."

"Just us?"

Sun Yang asked in surprise.

"Commander Liu, isn’t that a little... risky? Twenty to thirty of the Insect Race is no joke. There are only five of us. What if..."

"You think it’s too difficult?"

Liu Na cut him off coldly.

"If the Insect Hunter Squad can’t even complete a mission of this level, then you don’t deserve to be called warriors!"

Stunned by the rebuke, Sun Yang shrank back, not daring to say another word.

"Li Chang’an, can you complete this mission?"

Liu Na turned to look at him.

"We can."

Li Chang’an’s reply was crisp and decisive, without a hint of hesitation.

His gaze swept over his squad members.

"We will complete the mission within the allotted time."

"Very good!"

Liu Na nodded and sent a mission briefing to their terminal devices.

"Efficiency is the priority this time.

The swarm’s command unit may attempt a retreat, so you must destroy it as quickly as possible.

Once the command unit is eliminated, the rest of the swarm will lose all coordination and become easy to pick off."

"Understood!"

Li Chang’an accepted the briefing, scanned it quickly, and then looked at his squad.

"Any questions?"

"No questions!"

Han Ruoxi replied immediately.

"Can I ask just one little question?"

Sun Yang asked quietly.

"Do we have any backup? Even just a standby team would be good!"

"None."

Liu Na said coldly.

"You’re on your own for this mission.

You are well aware of the consequences of failure."

Rendered speechless, Sun Yang could only lower his head in dejection.

The Insect Hunter Squad quickly boarded a small armed transport and flew toward the target area.

The atmosphere inside the cabin was tense. Han Ruoxi looked down, checking her Superpower Bracelet and muttering under her breath.

"Twenty to thirty members of the Insect Race, including a command unit... We’re really in for it this time."

"Don’t be so tense, Ruo Xi!"

Sun Yang said, trying to comfort her as he loaded his Pulse Gun.

"Maybe the command unit is just a little bigger than the others. It probably won’t be that hard to fight!"

"Easy for you to say!"

Han Ruoxi rolled her eyes.

"When you get pinned down by an insect, don’t expect me to save you!"

"Hey, when have I ever been pinned down? Can you stop calling out my past failures?"

Sun Yang looked exasperated.

"Alright, that’s enough arguing!"

Li Chang’an looked up, his gaze sweeping over them.

"Our priority is to take out the command unit quickly. Don’t get bogged down fighting the others for too long. Understand?"

"Understood!"

The squad answered in unison.

Bai Lin sat to one side, operating a terminal device with his head bowed. His voice was calm and concise.
