Chapter 667: Chapter 326: No One Is to Act Alone
"The terrain in this forest is complex. The Insect Race will likely use it to set up an ambush.
I’ll be monitoring nearby heat signatures in real-time. Try to stay within my surveillance range!"
"Alright!"
Li Chang’an nodded.
"The key to this mission is coordination. No one is to act alone!"
The transport ship landed at the edge of the forest. The Insect Hunter Squad quickly disembarked and entered a combat state.
Bai Lin raised a portable scanner and began scanning the area.
"Heat signatures detected one kilometer to the southeast. I’m counting three to five of them. They’re probably Insect Race scout units!"
"Let’s take out these scout units first!"
Li Chang’an ordered.
"Ruo Xi, prepare a long-range attack. Sun Yang, provide suppressing fire. Shen Qiuyue, you’re on close-quarters cleanup!"
"Roger!"
Han Ruoxi lifted her Superpower Bracelet, and a faint electric arc began to form at her fingertips.
Sun Yang, cradling his Pulse Gun, muttered under his breath as he followed the team forward.
"We’ve barely started and we’re already running into bugs. This doesn’t feel like a good sign!"
"If you’re scared, you can go back now!"
Shen Qiuyue said flatly, her Dueling Sword already unsheathed.
"Who’s scared? I was just... thinking out loud!"
Sun Yang gave a dry laugh and didn’t dare say more.
Before long, three Insect Race creatures came into the squad’s view.
They were relatively small but moved swiftly, roaming about as if searching for something.
"Ruo Xi, fire!"
Li Chang’an ordered in a low voice.
"Roger!"
Han Ruoxi raised her hand and fired an arc of electricity, striking one of the bug’s heads with pinpoint accuracy and killing it instantly.
The remaining two creatures were instantly alerted. They let out sharp screeches and charged toward the squad.
"Sun Yang!"
Li Chang’an shouted.
"Understood!"
Sun Yang raised his Pulse Gun and laid down a volley of suppressive fire, forcing the two bugs back.
"Shen Qiuyue, finish them!"
Li Chang’an continued to command.
Shen Qiuyue said nothing more. She charged forward, her Longsword flashed, and the two Insect Race creatures fell in an instant.
"Done!"
She sheathed her sword and gave the surroundings a cold scan.
"Let’s keep pushing forward!"
Li Chang’an nodded, leading the squad onward toward the target area.
Over the next stretch, the Insect Hunter Squad encountered more and more members of the Insect Race.
Although most were common units, their sheer numbers meant they couldn’t be taken lightly.
"Captain, multiple heat signatures two hundred meters ahead! It must be the main swarm!"
Bai Lin’s voice came through the communicator.
"Prepare to engage!"
Li Chang’an said grimly.
"Everyone, stick to the plan. First, confirm the commander unit’s location!"
"You got it!"
Sun Yang took a deep breath and tightened his grip on his weapon.
The distant swarm began to stir, and a dense black mass of figures charged toward the Insect Hunter Squad.
"Here they come!"
Han Ruoxi cried out. Her Superpower Bracelet lit up, and a blazing white arc of electricity shot across the sky toward the swarm.
The swarm surged forward like a black torrent, the sharp screeches of the Insect Race rising and falling throughout the forest.
The Insect Hunter Squad quickly spread out, each member finding a suitable position and assuming a combat stance according to Li Chang’an’s orders.
"Ruo Xi, maintain arcing cover! Concentrate your fire and suppress the front of the swarm!"
Li Chang’an commanded in a deep voice, his Saw Chain Sword already activated and emitting a low hum.
"Roger!"
Han Ruoxi gritted her teeth. The arc of electricity from her Superpower Bracelet charged up and shot out, a blazing white light striking the foremost Insect Race creatures like a bolt of Lightning.
CRACKLE— The current struck the creatures, instantly scorching the ones at the front black and releasing a nauseating, burnt smell.
"Nice one!"
Sun Yang shouted, charging forward with his Pulse Gun and unleashing a dense shower of Energy Bullets that hammered the middle of the swarm.
"Is that all you got?"
Sun Yang’s lips curled into a taunting grin.
"These bugs are just here to die! One shot, one kill. Couldn’t be easier!"
"Don’t get careless. There are more behind them!"
Shen Qiuyue’s cold voice cut in. Her Dueling Sword traced an arc of light through the air, precisely piercing a bug’s head.
Bright green fluid splattered everywhere, but she didn’t even frown, turning to slice another bug in two with a single strike.
The swarm was larger than expected, but the Insect Hunter Squad’s seamless teamwork allowed them to bring the situation under control quickly.
"Bai Lin, have you found the commander unit’s location?"
Li Chang’an asked over the communicator, cleaving an attacking Insect Race creature in two.
"Hang on... Almost... Found it!"
Bai Lin’s voice was tinged with urgency.
"About one hundred and fifty meters behind the swarm! It’s larger than the others—it has to be the commander unit!"
"Excellent!"
Li Chang’an nodded and quickly issued new orders to the squad.
"Ruo Xi, Sun Yang, keep suppressing the swarm. Don’t let them get close.
Qiuyue, you’re with me. We’ll strike the commander unit! Bai Lin, continue providing ranged support and track the commander’s movements!"
"Roger!"
Everyone answered in unison.
Li Chang’an and Shen Qiuyue quickly changed direction, circling around the swarm’s flank.
The swarm’s commander unit was indeed a full size larger than the regular creatures. Its carapace was dark red and gave off an unsettling aura.
"That thing doesn’t look easy to take down!"
Shen Qiuyue murmured, tightening the grip on her sword.
"But it’s the lynchpin of the swarm. We have to take it out, and fast!"
Li Chang’an’s gaze remained calm as he gripped his Saw Chain Sword even tighter.
"I’ll draw its attention. You find an opening and take it down!"
"Understood!"
