Chapter 668: Chapter 326: No One Should Act Alone (Part 2)
Shen Qiuyue nodded, then calmly adjusted her position and concealed herself nearby.
Li Chang’an said no more, simply gripping his Saw Chain Sword and charging forward.
He was incredibly fast. With a single step, his figure shot forward like a bolt of lightning, instantly closing in on the commander.
WHIR—
The Saw Chain Sword cut through the air, aimed straight for the commander’s flank.
The commander seemed to sense the danger. It let out a piercing shriek, and several nearby insects immediately pounced, trying to block Li Chang’an’s attack.
"You’re asking to die!"
Li Chang’an snorted. With a flick of his wrist, he swung the Saw Chain Sword, instantly cleaving the two insects blocking his path in half.
Without a moment’s hesitation, he charged the commander again.
The commander raised its sharp forelimbs and brought them crashing down on Li Chang’an.
The immense force made the air whistle, and the ground around it cracked from the impact.
"Faster!"
Li Chang’an grunted, sidestepping the attack as his Saw Chain Sword slashed directly at the commander’s leg joint.
The strike was incredibly precise. The teeth of the Saw Chain Sword ground harshly against the commander’s joint, producing a cringe-inducing screech of friction.
The commander let out an enraged shriek and stumbled back a few steps.
Just then, Shen Qiuyue seized the opportunity. She leaped up from the other side, her Dueling Sword a flash of silver light as it stabbed straight toward the commander’s chest.
SQUELCH—
The Dueling Sword pierced the commander’s carapace but failed to penetrate it completely.
The commander struggled violently, trying to throw Shen Qiuyue off.
"Its shell is even harder than I thought!"
Shen Qiuyue said through gritted teeth. She wrenched her Dueling Sword free and, finding another angle, stabbed down again.
"Keep it busy! I’ll finish it!"
Li Chang’an flipped over and landed on the commander’s back. He raised his Saw Chain Sword high and brought it crashing down on its head.
CRACK!
The blow split the commander’s head carapace, and green fluid gushed out.
The commander’s movements instantly became sluggish, and its struggles gradually weakened.
"Nice one!"
Shen Qiuyue severed one of the commander’s forelimbs with her sword before leaping back to a safe distance.
Li Chang’an gave it no chance to recover. He swung his sword again, cleaving the commander’s head completely in two.
With the commander’s death, the surrounding insects let out a chaotic chorus of shrieks. They fell into disarray, with some even turning to flee.
"Commander is down!"
Li Chang’an said over the comms.
"Ruo Xi, Sun Yang, finish off the rest of the Insect Race now!"
"Roger! Watch this!"
Sun Yang shouted excitedly, raising his Pulse Gun and unleashing a wild spray of fire on the fleeing insects.
Not to be outdone, Han Ruoxi swept the battlefield with a storm of electric arcs, striking down the remaining insects one by one.
The battle lasted for about ten minutes. When the last insect fell to Sun Yang’s Pulse Gun, the forest finally fell silent.
"Mission complete!"
Li Chang’an stood beside the commander’s corpse and wiped the sweat from his face.
"Is everyone okay?"
"I’m still alive!"
Sun Yang plopped onto the ground, panting heavily.
"Damn, these bugs are a real pain. Way tougher than the training models!"
"Don’t be lazy. Get up!"
Han Ruoxi shot him a glare as she put away her Superpower Bracelet.
"We still have reports to write when we get back!"
Shen Qiuyue sheathed her Dueling Sword and said coolly,
"This mission went well enough, but if we run into this many insects next time, can we get some backup?"
"Don’t count on it!"
Li Chang’an chuckled.
"We’re an Insect Hunter Squad. Facing the Insect Race, missions like this are the norm!"
"Fine, ’the norm’ it is!"
Sun Yang stood up with a wry smile.
"But I’m gonna need a couple of extra meals to make up for all the blood and sweat I lost!"
After completing the mission, the Insect Hunter Squad returned to base.
Though exhausted, a hint of satisfaction was on everyone’s face.
The battle had made the importance of teamwork clearer than ever and given them a deeper understanding of their own abilities.
The moment they stepped into the base, Sun Yang shouted.
"Ruo Xi, Sister Shen, Captain Li, who’s buying dinner tonight? I’m starving!"
"Get lost! Buy your own dinner!"
Han Ruoxi rolled her eyes.
"I can’t be bothered with you!"
"Hey, don’t be so heartless! We just survived a tough fight, shouldn’t we celebrate?"
Sun Yang looked at Li Chang’an, trying to butter him up.
"What do you say, Captain?"
Li Chang’an smiled.
"We can celebrate, but tonight... you’re treating!"
"What?! Me?"
Sun Yang looked shocked.
"Captain, you can’t be serious!"
"I can!"
Li Chang’an clapped him on the shoulder.
"After all, you just said you had the most firepower and the best performance. You should treat everyone to a celebratory meal!"
「That night.」
Looking utterly defeated, Sun Yang walked into the dorm carrying a feast he’d just picked up from the base cafeteria, only to find everyone else already collapsed on their beds or in their chairs.
"Hey, hey, hey! What’s with you guys? You all look completely drained."
Sun Yang, a kebab stick dangling from his mouth, dropped the bags of food onto the table.
"Weren’t we supposed to be celebrating? I ended up being the only one doing the grunt work! Were you all just waiting for me to serve you?"
"Of course!"
Han Ruoxi said lazily, fiddling with her terminal device.
"Didn’t you say you had the most outstanding performance today? Treating everyone and running the errands is the perfect job for you!"
"Ruo Xi, seriously, you’re so ruthless! You’re using my ’outstanding performance’ just to mess with me!"
Sun Yang grumbled as he laid out the food on the table.
"Look at all this great stuff I brought back. Are you gonna eat it or not? If not, I’ll have it all myself!"
"Hah! You dare?"
Han Ruoxi rolled her eyes, grabbed a steaming box of grilled meat and rice from the table, and snagged a drink while she was at it.
"If you dare eat it all yourself, I’ll zap you with my electric arcs until you can’t even talk!"
Sun Yang froze for a second, then immediately backed down.
"Fine, fine! Eat! Eat all you want! As if I don’t know you."
Shen Qiuyue sat off to the side, having already changed out of her combat suit and into a simple training uniform.
She picked up a cup of hot tea and said flatly,
"Are you two done bickering? Eat quickly. We need to rest up for training tomorrow."
"Sister Shen, reminding us about training already? That’s so cold."
Sun Yang complained as he shoveled rice into his mouth.
"We just fought our way out of a swarm of insects today! Can’t we cut ourselves a little slack?"
"That’s exactly why we need to train tomorrow—because we just fought our way out of a swarm!"
Shen Qiuyue set down her cup, her tone lukewarm.
"The fight has just begun. There will be more missions waiting for us!"
Sun Yang’s face fell instantly.
"Sister Shen, could you be a little less blunt? That’s so demoralizing!"
Han Ruoxi couldn’t help but laugh.
"Serves you right for slacking off all the time. It’s good for you to hear this, so you don’t drag us down on the next mission!"
"Hey, hey, hey, when have I ever dragged you down?"
Sun Yang looked indignant.
"You saw the swarm today, didn’t you? I was taking them out one by one, not a single shot wasted!"
"Oh yeah? Then explain this: why did I have to be the one to use my electric arc on that insect pouncing at me?"
Han Ruoxi watched him with a smirk.
"Er..." Sun Yang’s mouth twitched, and he gave an awkward laugh.
"Weren’t you just trying to steal the spotlight? I didn’t even say anything, and you went ahead and acted first!"
"So it’s my fault you’re slow?"
Han Ruoxi’s expression clearly said, ’I can’t be bothered to argue with you.’
"Fine, fine, I won’t argue with you about it. Let’s eat!"
Li Chang’an hadn’t said a word. He sat in a corner, scrolling through the mission report, seemingly lost in thought.
"Captain Li, you should eat something too!"
Han Ruoxi glanced up at him and pushed a box of grilled meat and rice his way.
"You have to command us tomorrow, so don’t go hungry!"
"Thanks!"
Li Chang’an took the box but didn’t immediately pick up his chopsticks, instead continuing to look over the data on his terminal.
"Captain Li, what are you looking at, anyway?"
Sun Yang asked curiously.
