Chapter 783 - 384: Terror in the Ruins

Chapter 783: Chapter 384: Terror in the Ruins

"These ruins are incredibly well-preserved. They have to be thousands of years old, right? It’s amazing they haven’t collapsed," Sun Yang said, circling the exterior and clicking his tongue in wonder.

"Don’t touch anything. Watch out for traps," Shen Qiuyue warned as she carefully examined the patterns on the ruin’s walls.

"Traps? After all these years? Even if there were any, they would have broken down long ago, right?" Sun Yang said dismissively.

"Better safe than sorry," Li Chang’an said, walking up to the ruin’s main gate.

The gate was forged from some unknown metal, its surface covered in strange symbols. In the center was a slot that looked like part of an activation mechanism.

"Bai, can you analyze the material of this gate?" Li Chang’an asked.

Bai Lin scanned the gate a few times with his device. "Captain, it’s an alloy that doesn’t exist on Earth. It’s extremely hard; conventional methods won’t be able to break through it."

"Then how do we get in?" Han Ruoxi asked.

"Looks like we’ll have to find a key." Li Chang’an stroked his chin, studying the slot on the gate. "This shape... it looks a little familiar."

"Captain, have you been here before?" Sun Yang asked in surprise.

"Of course not. I just think the shape of the slot looks like something..." Before Li Chang’an could finish, his expression suddenly changed. "Get down! Move!"

He lunged at Han Ruoxi, tackling her to the ground.

At almost the exact same moment, countless thin beams of light shot out from the walls on either side of the gate. They interwove into a dense web, enveloping the entire area in front of the entrance.

"Holy crap, there really are traps!" Sun Yang jumped in fright and quickly ducked behind a large boulder.

Shen Qiuyue’s reaction was lightning-fast. She drew her Dueling Sword and slashed at the beams of light.

The beams struck her blade with a piercing screech of metal on metal, sending sparks flying.

"The energy levels of these beams are high! Be careful!" Shen Qiuyue warned.

"Bai, can you disable these traps?" Li Chang’an asked.

"I’m trying, but the ruin’s defense system is complex. I need more time," Bai Lin said, his fingers flying across his Light Computer.

"We’ll cover you!" Li Chang’an shouted, drawing his Saw Chain Sword and charging at the web of light.

The Saw Chain Sword whirred at high speed, letting out a deafening roar as it collided with the beams.

Sun Yang shouldered his Pulse Gun and opened fire on the emitters embedded in the wall.

Meanwhile, Shen Qiuyue brandished her Dueling Sword, weaving through the web of light in search of a weak point.

Han Ruoxi hid behind Li Chang’an, not daring to move. She could only use her Electric Superpower to try and disrupt the beams’ trajectories.

"Captain, I found the control mechanism!" Bai Lin suddenly shouted. "It’s under the third stone block to the left of the gate!"

Hearing this, Li Chang’an immediately charged toward the left side of the gate, his Saw Chain Sword a blur as it sliced through the beams in his path.

He reached the third stone block and brought his sword down with a powerful chop.

The stone block shattered, revealing a hidden button.

Li Chang’an slammed the button without a moment’s hesitation.

The web of light vanished instantly. The gate to the ruin slowly swung open, revealing a dark, deep passageway.

"We did it!" Han Ruoxi cheered.

"Don’t celebrate too soon. We don’t know what other dangers lie ahead," Li Chang’an said, taking the lead and stepping into the passage.

"Tsk, the Captain’s just too cautious," Sun Yang grumbled as he followed.

Shen Qiuyue and Han Ruoxi followed close behind.

"Second Young Master, they... they got in!" one of the bodyguards said to Zhou Ze, pointing at the slowly closing gate.

"Useless! A bunch of useless fools! You let them get in first!" Zhou Ze stomped his foot in a rage. "Quick! Help me down there! We’re going in too!"

"Second Young Master, it’s... it’s too dangerous. Why don’t we just wait for them to come out?" another bodyguard urged.

"Wait for what? By the time they come out, it’ll be too late! Hurry up and help me down!" Zhou Ze roared impatiently.

The two bodyguards had no choice but to help Zhou Ze as they carefully made their way down into the pit.

...

Inside the ruin, the passageway twisted and turned. Glowing Crystal Stones were embedded in the walls at regular intervals, bathing the corridor in a soft light.

"This ruin’s lighting system is pretty advanced. Still working after thousands of years," Sun Yang remarked, curiously examining the Crystal Stones on the walls.

"Don’t touch them. They might be poisonous," Shen Qiuyue warned.

"Poisonous? How do you know?" Sun Yang asked.

"Intuition," Shen Qiuyue said flatly.

"Tsk, a woman’s intuition. Can you really trust that?" Sun Yang muttered, pursing his lips.

"You’re welcome to try," Shen Qiuyue said, shooting him a cold glance.

"Never mind, never mind! I’ll take your word for it, okay?" Sun Yang quickly waved his hands in surrender.

"Something’s up ahead!" Li Chang’an suddenly stopped and motioned for everyone to be quiet.

The team immediately held their breath and listened intently.

A faint rustling sound drifted from up ahead. Something was approaching, and fast.

"What is it?" Sun Yang whispered.

"I don’t know, but it’s nothing good," Li Chang’an said, raising his Saw Chain Sword in a ready stance.

The rustling grew closer and clearer, until it sounded like it was right next to them.

Suddenly, a countless swarm of black beetles poured out from the darkness ahead, surging toward them like a tide.

The beetles were enormous, each the size of a human head. Their bodies were covered in hard carapaces, and their sharp mandibles glinted coldly.

"What the hell are these things? They’re huge!" Sun Yang exclaimed, immediately opening fire.

Beams of Pulse Energy slammed into the beetles with loud CRACKS, blasting a few of them into the air.

But more of the beetles charged forward, undeterred by the threat of death.

"They’re Black Obsidian Beetles! A type of mutated creature that lives in darkness. Their carapaces are tough, and they’re extremely aggressive!" Bai Lin’s voice called out.

"Bai, a little late with the info, don’t you think?!" Sun Yang yelled, complaining as he kept firing.
