The Rising Phoenix

Chapter 1040: Recognize Bai Xifeng

Chapter 1040: Chapter 1040: Recognize Bai Xifeng

"If I had just exchanged for more hours, my contracted beasts could have stayed out much longer and absorbed even more of that delicious spiritual energy." Bai Xifeng leaned back heavily in her wooden chair, looking genuinely disappointed and pouting over the missed opportunity.

The others seated all around the table were immediately rendered completely speechless by her bizarre logic. Most ordinary cultivators in the school would have frantically rushed up the grand staircase as quickly as humanly possible to claim a higher, far more prestigious floor rank on the public board. Only the completely unpredictable Bai Xifeng would deliberately and happily remain behind on a completed trial floor simply because she wanted her beloved contracted beasts to enjoy a rich spiritual energy feast for a little longer.

For a long moment, nobody at the table knew exactly what to say.

"...That really does sound like something Xifeng would do." Ning Shoukai finally muttered, breaking the silence with a wry smile.

The others simply nodded silently in absolute agreement.

...

After spending a considerable amount of time away recuperating from her severe injuries, Mo Jiao finally returned to the Tianlong School campus. However, the exact moment she arrived, she noticed that students everywhere, in the courtyards, the hallways, and the dining halls, seemed to be excitedly discussing the exact same person repeatedly.

Bai Xifeng.

The completely unfamiliar name surfaced again and again, echoing in her ears no matter where she walked. Mo Jiao frowned slightly, her temper flaring at the constant distraction.

"Who on earth are all of you talking about?" Mo Jiao finally asked, stepping into a group of her acquaintances.

"Oh, Jiao Jiao, you are finally back!" One of the male students immediately noticed her and greeted her warmly. "How is your health recovering now?"

"I am perfectly fine. My injuries have mostly recovered, which is exactly why I returned to classes today." Mo Jiao nodded smoothly before pressing the issue again. "By the way, who exactly is this person you all keep talking about? I have heard that name repeatedly ever since I set foot back in the school."

"Oh, you mean Bai Xifeng?" The student replied cheerfully. "She is a brand-new freshman student."

Mo Jiao looked deeply puzzled, her brow furrowing. "So why on earth is everyone making such a massive, ridiculous fuss over a mere new student?"

"Jiao Jiao, you probably would not even believe it even if we tell you the details." The student lowered his voice dramatically, leaning in. "This new student entered the Cultivation Pagoda, and the current trial floor she is sitting on is the 888th floor."

"What?!" Mo Jiao’s eyes widened in sheer, unadulterated disbelief. "How long has she even been studying here at Tianlong?"

"I think it has only been around four months total." The student glanced at another nearby disciple for confirmation.

"Yeah. Four months sounds about right." The other student replied with a firm nod.

Mo Jiao’s facial expression became increasingly shocked.

"Only four months..." Mo Jiao murmured to herself, her mind racing. "How could she possibly manage to reach the 888th floor in such a ridiculously short amount of time?"

"Honestly?" The first student shrugged his shoulders helplessly. "We have absolutely no idea. The girl is a total freak of nature."

"Speaking of the devil..." Another student in the circle suddenly whispered, pointing a finger toward the distance. "There she is right now."

Mo Jiao immediately turned around on her heel and followed the direction being indicated down the stone path. The exact millisecond her eyes landed squarely on the person walking down the walkway, she froze completely.

That face...

Her expression changed dramatically, turning from shock to pure rage. Without uttering another single word to her friends, she rushed aggressively toward the walking group and abruptly blocked their path.

"You!" Mo Jiao shouted, pointing a finger directly into the girl’s face.

Bai Xifeng and Xie Lanying stopped walking abruptly at the sudden, hostile interruption. Before Bai Xifeng could even fully react to the situation, a defensive Xie Lanying had already stepped forward to shield her friend.

Xie Lanying was the one who responded to Mo Jiao’s rude behaviour.

"What is the meaning of this?" Xie Lanying frowned deeply, her voice cold. "Senior Sister Mo, why are you rudely pointing your finger directly at Xifeng like that?"

With a swift, annoyed motion, she slapped Mo Jiao’s pointing hand aside.

"Why on earth are you at my school?!" Mo Jiao demanded, completely ignoring Xie Lanying while glaring directly into Bai Xifeng’s eyes.

Only then did she properly take a moment to look Bai Xifeng up and down.

Her eyes widened all over again in pure confusion. Bai Xifeng was clearly and properly wearing the official, flowing female student uniform of Tianlong School. Why on earth would a man be wearing a female uniform in broad daylight?

"Xifeng? Do you actually know her?" Xie Lanying asked curiously, glancing between the two.

Bai Xifeng, who already forgot Mo Jiao, shook her head. She stared blankly at Mo Jiao’s raging face for several quiet seconds. Then, she honestly shook her head. "No idea."

Mo Jiao nearly exploded with pure fury right then and there.

"You dare pretend you don’t remember me?!" Mo Jiao pointed at Bai Xifeng again, her voice screeching. "And why on earth are you wearing a female uniform? You’re clearly a man!"

The surrounding crowd of passing students immediately perked up their ears when they heard that wild accusation. More and more people rapidly gathered nearby, forming a thick circle to watch the deeply entertaining spectacle unfold.

"A man?"

"Did Senior Sister Mo just say the anomaly Bai Xifeng is actually a man?"

"Wait, do they have a past together?"
