Chapter 1125: Got Summoned By The Royal Family

Chapter 1125: Chapter 1125: Got Summoned By The Royal Family

"In two days. You guys can freely explore the Capital and enjoy yourselves before we head out." Bai Xifeng said.

"How about you? Are you coming with us?" Xie Lanying asked.

"I will probably be stuck handling my business preparations here. Plus, I have a strong feeling I am about to be officially summoned." Bai Xifeng narrowed her eyes, a faint glint flashing in her gaze.

"Summoned? By whom?" Xie Qingge asked, looking genuinely confused.

"The Royal Family, obviously." Xie Lanying guessed correctly.

"Bingo. When I left the Capital City previously alongside my father and brother, the royal family was utterly furious because I managed to slip entirely out of their grasp." Bai Xifeng snorted with disdain. "The royal family, especially the Emperor, is terrified of my father’s military authority. So, the old fool naively assumed that if he kept me hostage in the Capital, he could easily use me as leverage to control my father."

A cold, mocking smile touched her lips. "Well, he was clearly dreaming."

"Indeed. He is completely delusional." Xie Lanying agreed without hesitation.

Given the terrifying squad of high-tier contracted beasts surrounding this girl, how could the royal family possibly hope to control her? They could only accomplish such a ridiculous task in their wildest, sweetest dreams.

"So... are you expecting to run into someone annoying like Student Liu Jun at the palace?" Xie Lanying chuckled softly.

"Probably. Well, if those imperial fools end up pissing me off enough, I will just have Cerberus blow up their precious palace." Bai Xifeng stated casually, taking a bite of a pastry.

"No! Young Miss, you absolutely cannot do that!" Xiao Li gasped, her eyes wide as she shook her head frantically.

"Relax, Xiao Li, I am just kidding." Bai Xifeng assured her with a playful wink.

"You are kidding? Yeah, right, I don’t believe a single word of that." Xie Lanying rolled her eyes dramatically.

Bai Xifeng simply rolled her eyes right back at Xie Lanying, her playful smile remaining firmly in place.

...

The next morning, Bai Xifeng was reluctantly awakened by Xiao Li. Just as she had predicted the night before, the Royal Family had indeed sent a formal summons to drag her to the imperial palace.

"It is barely morning... Why on earth do they need to call me to the palace so ridiculously early in the morning?!" Bai Xifeng grumbled, violently pulling her thick blanket over herself and hiding her head completely underneath it.

"Young Miss, it is already the Shi hour. It really isn’t that early anymore." Xiao Li stated calmly, standing by the bed.

"Shit!!!!! I still want to sleep!" Bai Xifeng shouted loudly from under the covers, her voice echoing throughout the entire courtyard.

Everyone in the vicinity who heard the furious shout was instantly startled. Those who didn’t recognize the voice wondered what crazy girl dared to scream like that, while those who knew Bai Xifeng’s voice simply shook their heads in exasperation.

It seemed that no matter how powerful, famous, and terrifying Bai Xifeng became, getting her out of bed in the morning was still an impossible task.

With a heavy, dramatic sigh, Bai Xifeng finally threw the blanket off her body. She dragged her feet as she got out of bed, looking like a disgruntled ghost who had not gotten a single wink of sleep.

"Young Miss, here. You can wash your face here." Xiao Li said gently as she prepared a warm basin of water for her.

"Ah... Xiao Li... I really missed you so much." Bai Xifeng mumbled as she shuffled over toward the basin.

"Yes, yes..." Xiao Li nodded soothingly, treating her formidable young miss like a pampered child who needed to be patiently taken care of every single morning.

Bai Xifeng splashed the cold water onto her face several times. The chill finally managed to wash away the last remaining traces of sleepiness from her mind. After that, she changed into her formal robes and prepared herself to deal with the annoying hassle at the palace.

Meanwhile, the imperial eunuch who had been sent to deliver the summons was still waiting in the main hall. He had been continuously grumbling under his breath for the past hour about how utterly rude and insolent Bai Xifeng was for failing to greet him immediately upon receiving a royal decree. He had foolishly expected the daughter of Great General Bai to fully grasp the weight and absolute priority of an imperial summons. So, when he finally caught sight of a young girl stepping gracefully into the main hall, he immediately assumed that she was the target of his grievances.

"You must be Young Lady Bai." The eunuch sneered, looking at her with an arrogant, deeply unhappy expression. "Even though you are the spoiled daughter of Great General Bai, you should still understand basic etiquette and respect the Royal Family! Not to mention, you will be married into the Royal Family in the future anyway!"

The eunuch loftily reprimanded her, sounding as if he were a high-and-mighty scholar lecturing an ignorant, unbred young girl about proper court manners.

This eunuch was a newly appointed official in the palace and knew very little about Bai Xifeng’s true nature. He only knew that she had returned to the Capital City today and that he had been tasked with escorting her to the emperor. While he had certainly heard terrifying rumors regarding Great General Bai’s military prowess, he had never personally met Bai Xifeng before. Because of his sheer ignorance, he actually dared to spout such arrogant nonsense right to her face.

"Hey!" Bai Xifeng called out flatly.

The eunuch turned toward Bai Xifeng, his nose tilted upward, ready to lecture her further.
