The Villainess's Heartthrob Script: I Can Talk to Animals

Chapter 372: Suddenly Wanting to Adopt a Son

Chapter 372: Chapter 372: Suddenly Wanting to Adopt a Son

Henry Stark and Kyle Morgan headed back to the police station, while Renee Jennings returned to Eastgate Villa to wait for news from Mary.

She was sitting on the rocking chair in the courtyard, sunbathing while waiting for Mary, when she suddenly heard the system’s notification.

[System 009: Miss Jennings, you have an unfinished mission.]

’A mission?’

Renee Jennings blinked. She mentally accessed the mission panel and, sure enough, saw a mission in progress.

’Soothe the Snake King?’

She frowned slightly, a flicker of confusion in her eyes.

’Where is the Snake King?’

[System 009: You need to find him.]

Renee Jennings: "..."

’Where in the world was she supposed to find the Snake King?’

Renee Jennings sat for a moment before waving Blueberry over. "I’m going to the study to livestream. If Mary comes looking for me, bring her to the study, understand?"

"I understand." Blueberry nodded obediently.

Renee Jennings got up and walked into the villa, where she saw Glenn Zane mopping the floor.

When she had returned from The Sawyer’ Place that morning, Glenn Zane had been wiping down the tables.

’She really is diligent.’

Out of the corner of her eye, Renee Jennings caught sight of an umbrella on the coffee table and was reminded of Owen Dunn, the man who had lent it to her.

She went into the study, found Owen Dunn on WeChat, and sent him a text: [Mr. Dunn, thank you for the umbrella the other day. Could you please send me your address so I can mail it back to you?]

After sending the message, Renee Jennings sat down at her desk and opened her streaming platform.

The main purpose of today’s stream was to talk about what happened with Young Miss Sawyer.

Renee Jennings wanted to wait until she had more viewers before bringing it up, so after starting the stream, she began by connecting with viewers as usual.

"SesamePouch" connected successfully, and a pretty girl appeared on the split screen.

"Hello, SesamePouch." A faint smile touched Renee Jennings’s lips.

SesamePouch smiled. "Hi, Renee! I didn’t expect you to stream during the day."

Renee Jennings laughed. "I just happened to have some free time today."

"Oh, I see." SesamePouch hesitated. "Renee, there’s something I’d like your help with, and I’d also like to hear what the other viewers think."

Renee Jennings gave a slight nod. "Okay, go ahead."

"Here’s what happened," SesamePouch said. "My husband and I have been married for two years, and we don’t have plans for a baby yet. Recently, my mother-in-law suddenly said she wants to adopt a son, and she wants my husband and me to help raise him."

Renee Jennings blinked and asked hesitantly, "Are your in-laws adopting the child for themselves, or for you and your husband?"

"For themselves," SesamePouch said with a look of exasperation. "They said it’s a shame they only have one son."

[I’m... speechless.]

[Are your in-laws trying to pressure you into having kids? Is that why they’re saying this?]

[You have to refuse! Make them raise the kid themselves!!!]

"Yes." SesamePouch saw the bullet comments and nodded emphatically. "I’m definitely refusing. If I had that kind of energy, I’d rather just have my own biological child."

"Is that the only reason?" Renee Jennings raised an eyebrow slightly. "They want to adopt a son just because it’s a ’shame’?"

She felt there had to be more to it than that.

"I’m not sure either." SesamePouch’s expression turned more serious. "I just can’t figure it out. The whole thing feels strange, but I don’t know what’s so strange about it."

[Do they have pets? HAHAHA]

[There’s definitely something fishy going on.]

Renee Jennings: "Do they have any pets?"

"We don’t have any at our house," SesamePouch said. "But my in-laws have a tank of ornamental fish. Renee, can you help me communicate with them?"

"I can." Renee Jennings nodded and asked softly, "Are you at your in-laws’ house right now?"

"No," SesamePouch shook her head. "I’m at my own place, but my in-laws live in the complex across from ours. It doesn’t take long to get there."

Renee Jennings: "Okay, can you head over there now?"

"I can." SesamePouch was already up and heading for the entryway. "I’ll go over right now."

Not wanting to waste Renee’s and everyone else’s time, she rode her electric scooter over.

As she rode the elevator upstairs, SesamePouch said with some excitement, "My in-laws happen to be out at a wedding reception today, so they’re not home."

She used her key to open the door and went straight to the fish tank next to the TV in the living room.

A small goldfish gently swished its tail fin, swimming leisurely back and forth in the water.

"Hey, little fish." SesamePouch tapped on the tank’s glass. "Can you do me a favor?"

The little goldfish blew a few bubbles, GLUB GLUB, looking at SesamePouch in confusion.

"What?"

"Are you kidding me? A fish is just for looking at. What kind of favor could I possibly do for you?"

Hearing the little goldfish’s words, the smile on Renee Jennings’s lips deepened. She chuckled. "I’m not kidding. I’m serious. I need your help."

"Huh?" The little goldfish swam up to the glass, utterly astonished. "What could a fish possibly help with?"

"There is something," Renee Jennings said in a gentle voice. "Besides you, are there two humans living here?"

"Yes." The little goldfish blew some bubbles. "Those two humans are the ones who keep the fish."

Renee Jennings: "Do you usually overhear what they talk about?"

The little goldfish: "Of course! A fish gets really bored in here all day. I’m always listening to the old man and the old lady talk!"

"That’s great." Renee Jennings watched the enthusiastically chatting goldfish in the tank through the screen. "Can I ask you a few things, then?"

Encountering a human who could talk to it for the first time, the little goldfish nodded vigorously. "Yes, go on, ask away!"

"Do the old man and old lady have a son?" Renee Jennings asked.

The little goldfish: "They do! And the son has a wife. It’s this female human holding the phone."

The little goldfish watched SesamePouch’s in-laws every day and had learned about many things. It even knew that the device SesamePouch was using for the video call was called a phone.

"You’re so smart," Renee Jennings praised. "So, have the old man and old lady been planning to adopt a son recently?"

"Adopt a son?" The little goldfish blinked its bulging round eyes, as if thinking hard. "This fish has to think."

Renee Jennings didn’t interrupt it, waiting patiently.

After about a minute, the little goldfish went GLUB GLUB. "This fish remembers now. The one the old man and old lady are adopting isn’t a son, it’s the son’s son."

Hearing this, Renee Jennings’s slender eyebrows slowly knitted together. "Fisher, can you explain that in more detail?"

"I can," the little goldfish explained. "If this fish remembers correctly, this is how it happened..."

That night, SesamePouch’s husband, reeking of alcohol, had run to his parents’ house, looking unusually nervous and anxious.

"Why are you here so late?" Mr. and Mrs. Zane had actually already gone to bed. Awakened by the sound of the doorbell, they were now sitting on the living room sofa in their pajamas, yawning.

Mrs. Zane frowned and asked, "Have you been drinking? Did your wife start a fight with you again? I was against you choosing her from the beginning. Now look, she starts fights with you over every little thing!"

"That’s enough out of you," Mr. Zane said, nudging his wife with his elbow. "You think our son isn’t upset enough as it is?"

Mrs. Zane rolled her eyes.

Mr. Zane turned to his son, his expression growing more serious. "What’s really going on?"
