Chapter 398: Spend the Rest of Your Life Repenting in Prison

Chapter 398: Chapter 398: Spend the Rest of Your Life Repenting in Prison

"Not cause a scene?" Marmalade gave a cold smile. "You had the nerve to do something like that, and you’re afraid of me saying it out loud?"

"What did I do?" Bruno Lawson raged. "Don’t spout such nonsense!"

"Then swear on it." Marmalade’s eyes were fixed on him. "Swear that you never did anything to betray my mom. If you did, may you follow her to the grave tonight!"

"I don’t have time for your games!" Bruno Lawson turned his face away and started to leave.

Marmalade immediately blocked his path. "You’re running because you’re guilty."

Bruno Lawson’s face was livid. He gritted out, "Judy Lawson, you’d better get one thing straight. I am your father!"

"Not anymore!" Marmalade said, her voice full of disappointment. "The moment you and this Number Three made my mom pass out from rage, the moment you didn’t call an ambulance and just left with Number Three, causing Mom to miss her best chance for survival—that’s when you stopped being my father!"

"You..." Bruno Lawson’s face went pale as a sheet. He stared at her in shock. "How could you..."

’At the time, it was just him and Joan Lowe. The only other person who might have talked, Lily Crowe, was already dead. How did Judy Lawson find out?’

"Surprised I know, are you?" Judy Lawson stood ramrod straight, the hatred in her eyes burning clear. "Bruno Lawson, you and that Number Three, Joan Lowe, you killed my mother!"

"Shut your mouth!" Bruno Lawson roared.

"Jolie, what are you saying?" Her three uncles, who had just rushed over, stared at her in disbelief. "Is that true?"

Marmalade turned to her three uncles and nodded gravely. "It’s true! Eldest Uncle, Second Uncle, Youngest Uncle, Mom collapsed because Bruno Lawson brought a Number Three home and she was overwhelmed with rage!"

"Don’t talk nonsense!" Veins bulged on Bruno Lawson’s temples.

"What’s more, when Mom collapsed, Bruno Lawson didn’t care at all! He just walked out with Number Three, Joan Lowe—who used to be my aunt—and left Mom to die, causing her to miss the critical window to save her!" Marmalade’s accusation came out as a choked sob. "Bruno Lawson, how could you be so cruel?"

Bruno Lawson’s face flushed, then paled. "I don’t know what you’re talking about."

He turned to leave, but Marmalade’s youngest uncle lunged forward, slammed him to the ground, and landed a punch square on his face. "Bruno Lawson, you’re the one who killed my sister!"

Marmalade’s youngest uncle’s eyes were bloodshot with rage as his fists rained down. "You’re the one who should be dead, you bastard!"

[Yeah, get him! Beat that son of a bitch to death!]

[Cheating scumbag.]

The eldest uncle was older and couldn’t process the shock; the second uncle had to support him.

Seeing her chance, Joan Lowe tried to slip away.

Marmalade’s friends immediately blocked her path, calling out, "Jolie, what do you want to do with this shameless Number Three?"

Hearing her name, Marmalade walked over.

Joan Lowe backed away a few steps until her back hit the counter. There was nowhere left to run.

She swallowed hard. Looking at Marmalade standing before her, she said in a trembling voice, "Jolie, it’s not true. Your father and I have no relationship at all. I’ve never been to your house, and I definitely didn’t cause your mother’s death."

"Shut up!" Marmalade shrieked, her hands clenching into fists at her sides. "My mother was so good to you, and you repaid her kindness with this betrayal!"

"I didn’t, you’re making things up..."

SLAP—

Marmalade’s hand swung, striking her hard across the face. "Why did you and Bruno Lawson kill my mother?"

Joan Lowe clutched her face, shaking her head desperately. "I didn’t! I really didn’t! It had nothing to do with me!"

Hearing this, Marmalade slapped her again. "You and Bruno Lawson were the ones who made my mom collapse! You saw she was dying and did nothing!"

Joan Lowe quickly blurted out, "It wasn’t me, it was your father! I asked him what we should do, and your father said to just leave her, that she’d wake up on her own... But who knew she would just... die..."

SLAP—

Marmalade slapped her one more time before turning, her eyes red, and charging at Bruno Lawson.

He was still pinned to the ground by her youngest uncle, his face bruised and swollen, nose bleeding freely.

Bruno Lawson gasped for breath, turning his head to look at Marmalade. "Jolie," he said weakly, "quick, tell your uncle to stop... He’s going to kill me..."

"If the law didn’t forbid it..." Marmalade’s tear-filled eyes were blazing with hatred and grief. "I would kill you with my own two hands to avenge my mother!"

Bruno Lawson’s pupils contracted, and his expression shifted. "You..."

"Uncle," Marmalade said softly, looking at her devastated youngest uncle. "I’m going to sue him. I’ll make sure he spends the rest of his life in prison, repenting for what he did."

"Judy Lawson..." Bruno Lawson never imagined his daughter could be so merciless. "Don’t forget, I’m your father!"

"I don’t have a monster for a father," Marmalade said, looking at him coldly.

A metallic taste of blood rose in Bruno Lawson’s throat. His eyes filled with shock and fear. "Jolie, please don’t do this. I don’t want to go to prison."

Hearing this, Marmalade suddenly laughed. "You don’t want to go to prison? Fine. Bring my mother back. The moment she comes back, I’ll let you go."

Hearing this, Bruno Lawson’s face turned ashen. "Was your mother really that important to you? Am I so much less important than her?"

"Don’t you dare compare yourself to my mother," Marmalade said with a sneer. "You’re a monster."

With that said, she turned and walked away from the crowd of onlookers, taking deep, shuddering breaths to compose herself.

A moment later, she picked up the phone hanging around her neck and flipped the camera to face her. "Host, viewers, thank you for your support and for staying with me."

Marmalade forced a smile, but her eyes glistened with unshed tears.

"You did the right thing," Renee Jennings said gently. "Take care of yourself from now on. Don’t make your mother worry, wherever she is."

"Mm!" Marmalade nodded emphatically. "I will."

After Marmalade logged off, Renee Jennings was left with complicated feelings.

’Emotions truly are the most uncontrollable things in the world.’

’The contrast is so extreme. When you’re in love, it’s ’til death do you part. When you’re not, it’s just ruthless cruelty.’

[Gonna go home tonight and have a talk with my parents about this]

[Can Marmalade’s dad actually get a prison sentence for this?]

[Another day, another reason to be terrified of marriage]

[Sigh, this is so sad...]

The screen filled with emotional comments from the audience.

Renee Jennings turned the camera back toward the two male lions. "Everyone, let’s not get too pessimistic. Not everyone is a Bruno Lawson. People like him are the exception, not the rule. Most people are kind and have principles. Okay, let’s get the next viewer on the line."

"UnsweetenedCoffee" connected to the stream.

On the split screen, a girl with two braids hanging over her shoulders appeared. She waved at the camera with a sweet smile. "Hi, Renee! Hi, everyone! I’m UnsweetenedCoffee."

Renee Jennings turned the camera to face herself and smiled slightly. "Hello, UnsweetenedCoffee."

"I don’t have any pets myself, but my boyfriend has a Golden Retriever named Gus," UnsweetenedCoffee explained. "There’s something that I’ve always found really strange, so I was hoping you could help me communicate with Gus, Renee."

Renee Jennings gave a slight nod. "I understand. Could you tell me what it’s about, please?"
