Chapter 469: Chapter 469: Sasha Can Bring Her Benefits
The girl with short, orange hair declared haughtily, "I don’t care about the other animals. But as far as Sasha is concerned, if you don’t like it, then don’t come!"
The smaller girl was so angry she was left speechless.
Renee Jennings and her group stood a short distance away, witnessing the entire exchange.
She furrowed her delicate brows. "Aren’t these visitors being a bit extreme?"
Hilary also frowned, her tone tinged with helplessness. "I see those two girls all the time, but this is the first time I’ve seen them treat other visitors this way."
Bonnie stared in their direction for a long while before mumbling sullenly, "It’s them. They’re the reason Sasha made fun of me."
At these words, Renee Jennings turned to Hilary and asked, "Were they the ones who pretended to give Bonnie a gift before?"
"Yes." Hilary nodded. "It was them. I think they even started a social media account just for Sasha. They post videos of it all the time and visit the park at least three times a week."
Michelle Fuller said with surprise, "They come that often?"
"They do," Hilary said. "They must have an annual pass to the park."
Other first-time visitors to Caelus Wildlife Park were also starting to get annoyed with the orange-haired girl’s behavior.
"It’s not like you own Sasha. There’s no need to be like this."
"Exactly. We all come to the zoo because we’re curious about the animal kingdom."
"Exactly." Renee Jennings walked forward, holding Bonnie, and said in a calm, even voice, "Just because you like tigers, does that mean you wouldn’t be afraid if one touched you?"
"Hey, it’s Renee Jennings!"
"Oh my god, I’m seeing Renee Jennings in person!"
"Ms. Jennings is even prettier in person than she is on her livestreams!"
"..."
The visitors who had come to Caelus Wildlife Park specifically to see Renee Jennings let out sounds of surprise and delight.
The girl with short, orange hair looked at Renee Jennings, her tone dripping with hostility. "You’re the one who was badmouthing Sasha on the livestream, spreading rumors that it bullies its companions, aren’t you?"
Renee Jennings’s clear, cool gaze fell upon the girl as she replied in a detached tone, "And what makes you say I’m spreading rumors?"
"Based on how well I know Sasha!" the orange-haired girl said with a grave expression. "Sasha is wonderful! It’s so well-behaved!"
A wry smile touched Renee Jennings’s lips.
Though Sasha was hiding, it had been watching the humans argue over it the whole time. Naturally, it also spotted Bonnie cradled in Renee Jennings’s arms.
Its gaze was fixed on the two flower-shaped barrettes on Bonnie’s head, as well as the little flower-print bag slung across its body.
’Who gave those to Bonnie?’
’I don’t even have barrettes and a little bag like that. How can Bonnie have them?’
At that moment, Sasha had only one thought in its mind: ’Snatch them! Snatch both the barrettes and the little bag!’
Sasha yelled at Bonnie, "Bambi!"
Bonnie looked toward the sound and saw Sasha beckoning to it from behind a rock.
It was a little angry and complained into Renee’s ear, "Renee, Sasha always gets my name wrong! My name is Bonnie, but it keeps calling me Bambi!"
Renee knew at once that Sasha was doing it on purpose.
Sasha shouted again, "Bambi, get over here!"
Bonnie immediately retorted, huffing, "No! Stop getting my name wrong!"
"I won’t bully you," Sasha told it. "I have some yummy treats over here. Come on, Bambi, I’ll share them with you!"
Hearing this, Bonnie seemed taken aback. The anger on its face faded, replaced by confusion. ’Why would Sasha want to give me treats?’
Renee couldn’t figure out why Sasha was suddenly being so friendly toward Bonnie.
’Could it be trying to put on a show because there are so many visitors around?’
’If so, this orangutan is incredibly cunning.’
Renee Jennings hesitated for a few seconds before spending 50 points in the System Mall to redeem an Animal Heart Sound Prop Card.
She heard Sasha’s true thoughts—
[I have to snatch Bambi’s little flower barrettes and flower bag!]
Renee Jennings: "..."
’So it was just a ploy to snatch Bonnie’s barrettes and bag, luring it over with treats.’
’For an animal, that’s remarkably clever.’
"Bonnie, do you want to go over to Sasha?" Renee Jennings asked, her eyes lowered.
Bonnie immediately shook its head so hard it seemed to rattle. "No way! Sasha’s definitely trying to trick me again!"
’Sasha had tricked it several times before.’
’Every time, Sasha promised treats, and every time, Bonnie was tricked into coming closer only to be bullied.’
’It would never believe mean Sasha’s words again!’
"Okay." Renee Jennings looked at Sasha, who was hiding behind the rock. "You’re Sasha, right? We saw each other on the phone the other day, remember?"
Sasha stared at Renee Jennings, seeming to recall. "Did you give Bambi that gift?"
Renee Jennings smiled faintly. "Its name is Bonnie. And yes, the gift was from me."
Upon hearing this, Sasha emerged from behind the rock and slowly approached her, asking expectantly, "Well, did you bring a gift for me?"
"I brought one for you, too." Renee Jennings paused for a beat. "But I haven’t decided if I’m going to give it to you."
Sasha instantly grew angry, baring its teeth and snorting. "Why not? You gave Bambi a gift, so you have to give me one!" It then ripped a handful of grass out of the ground.
The girl with short, orange hair couldn’t understand Sasha’s words, but she could read its mood from its expression and body language.
"What the hell is with your attitude? Why are you treating Sasha like this? ’Haven’t decided if I’m going to give it to you’? That’s hilarious! As if Sasha gives a damn about your pathetic little gift!"
She turned to Sasha, cooing in a soft voice, "Sasha, we don’t want her gift. Tell me what you want, and I’ll buy it for you."
"No!" Sasha insisted stubbornly. "I want *her* to give it to me! If Bambi gets something, I have to get something too! And I want way, way more than Bambi!"
"I can give you a gift, too," Renee Jennings said softly. "But only if you’re a kind and friendly orangutan."
"What’s that supposed to mean?" Sasha didn’t understand.
The orange-haired girl shot back, displeased, "Are you implying Sasha isn’t kind and friendly? You don’t know it at all! What right do you have to slander it?"
"What are you getting so worked up about?" Michelle Fuller couldn’t stand it anymore. With her hands on her hips, she said, "Is Sasha your child or something? My friend was hired by the park to communicate with the animals, so would you please stop making a scene?"
The other onlookers also found the orange-haired girl’s behavior strange.
Sasha was an orangutan at Caelus Wildlife Park, not her personal pet. Was it really worth starting fights with people over it?
Of course, the orange-haired girl wasn’t stupid. She was so nice to Sasha for one simple reason: Sasha brought her personal gain.
She had registered a video account online where she exclusively posted clips of Sasha’s daily life. These videos generated a ton of traffic, and quite a few brands had reached out to her for partnerships.
Furthermore, when she visited Sasha on weekdays, the park was less crowded, and she would always go live. Whenever Sasha interacted with her, lots of viewers—whales with more money than sense—would send tips and donations.
Over the course of a year, she earned more from this than her actual salary.
The phone hanging around her neck was already in video mode, recording everything. She could already imagine how viral this footage would be once she posted it.
This thought spurred her on. The orange-haired girl’s voice caught with emotion as she cried, "I’ve known Sasha for a long time. It might not be my child, but it’s my best friend! Is it wrong for me to protect my best friend?"
