Roadmap to the Boundless Sky

Book 4 Chapter 32: Intercept

Book 4, Chapter 32: Intercept

After receiving the order, an armored car with a front-mounted ramming scoop sped up, overtook the other cars to take the lead, and crashed into the cars blocking their way.

They were thrown to the side like toys that weighed nothing and rolled away.

The motorcade followed behind the armored car and went through the opening.

Ji Xinming cursed under his breath and said some things to the other two through his Realm Pass. Then, he jumped out of his speeding car.

The moment his feet touched the ground, he started running. In just a few steps, he overtook the other cars. Afterimages trailed behind him as he ran after the motorcade.

Ji Xinming’s two companions appeared further down the road and stood in front of the motorcade.

That was one of their plans. If cars couldn’t stop the motorcade, they would get out of them and stop them themselves.

The companions were wearing sunglasses while standing with their legs apart and hands slightly spread out with beautifully crafted, short, metallic staffs. As Third Limit martial artists, if they wanted to stop a car, they could easily do it with suitable tools and weapons.

Ji Xinming reached the motorcade. With a jump, he leapt over it and landed in front of his companions with a loud bang. Then, he turned around to face the motorcade.

When Chen Chuan saw this, he knew that his security team wouldn’t be able to take down three prepared Third Limit martial artists. They would just end up getting hurt. So, he said, “Stop the car.”

The motorcade stopped around twenty meters before the trio.

The logistician got out of the car and opened the door on the other side. Chen Chuan stepped out and motioned for his team to wait before going forward to stand in front of the trio.

He faced Ji Xinming and said calmly, “Mr. Ji, you should know that what you’re doing is really dangerous and might lead to unforeseeable consequences. I hope that you have a logical explanation for this.”

Ji Xinming and his companions suddenly felt a pressure on their shoulders. This was something they never felt in Yangzhi City. Ji Xinming hated it and had to force himself to stay still instead of backing off. He smoothed out his clothes to hide his unease.

“Lead Investigator Chen, we have no intention of offending you. We were asked to talk to you, but you refused to answer our call, so we had no choice but to resort to this,” he said.

“If you really wanted to talk to me, you could have sent a message. You could have also asked my colleagues or friends to pass the word. If I saw it fit, I would’ve contacted you. You had other options aside from resorting to such an unpleasant method,” Chen Chuan shot back.

Ji Xinming felt his eyelids twitch. That was indeed the truth. They had other ways to contact Chen Chuan, but they were administrative officers of the refined training faction, and they were used to aggressive methods.

They could meet whoever they wanted, and they were the ones to reject others. No one had a reason to refuse seeing them. That was why they couldn’t accept Chen Chuan’s rejection to see them.

Besides, they didn’t think that they would suffer any consequences for it, so they chose this method without any further consideration.

But he didn’t defend himself aggressively. He sucked in a deep breath and said, “I’m sorry, but this is really important. That’s why we had to meet you this way. Besides, we came with a message from an important person. I think you should listen.”

“I don’t care what you want to do, nor do I care to know who sent you, much less want to hear what he has to say,” Chen Chuan said coolly.

“I’m on holiday right now. If this is something related to my job, please speak to the Resolution Department. If this is a private matter, I’m sorry, but I have nothing to say to you.

“Please step aside.”

Ji Xinming’s expression turned cold. “Lead Investigator Chen, we know that you’ve joined the purity faction, but you shouldn’t think that you can do whatever you want just because the purity faction is protecting you. I can tell you right now that the one who sent me is so powerful that he can decide your future.

“There are people you can’t afford to cross.”

Chen Chuan ignored them and turned around. He had already warned them. If they refused to step aside, he was going to ask his security team to shoot at them.

Ji Xinming stared at his back before raising his hand. One of his companions brought out an old radio and turned it on.

Some static filled the air before a person’s voice appeared. It went straight into Chen Chuan’s mind. “Join us.”

Chen Chuan stopped.

Ji Xinming grinned. The person had given them a cassette tape and asked them to play it when they saw Chen Chuan. Its effects were obvious.

Chen Chuan turned around to stare at the radio. While the voice repeated the same words, he cast a quick glance at his second self. He had turned blurry, alright, and the effects were rippling across his body like waves. His own biofield was also turning chaotic. Chen Chuan turned to Ji Xinming’s group.

They suddenly felt alarm bells ring in their minds. Ji Xinming motioned for his companions to turn the radio’s volume to the max.

But it was useless. Even though the mental energy attacked Chen Chuan, his eyes only became clearer than before.

Ji Xinming felt threatened, as if someone was holding a knife to his throat. Before he could do anything, he saw a hand right in front of his face.

Shocked, he wanted to block the attack, but his body couldn’t keep up with his mind. Before he could bring his hand up, the palm pushed against his face, and he was thrown backward.

The moment the companions saw Chen Chuan attack, they rushed at him. One of them swung his short staff at Chen Chuan’s right shoulder, while the other lowered his body to hit his knees.

The two moved quickly and showed great teamwork. Their attacks hit Chen Chuan at the same time, but he didn’t budge. They felt like they had hit a sturdy tyre. Their short staffs bounced off due to recoil, and their arms went numb.

Chen Chuan grabbed one of their wrists and threw the person at their retreating companion. Chen Chuan was so fast that the person saw a blur in front of his eyes, and his companion crashed into him.

After hitting each other, their bodies froze for a moment midair before landing on top of each other. Most of their bones snapped from the collision.

Ji Xinming fell on the ground. His eyes had rolled back. It seemed that he had lost consciousness the moment he got hit.

The radio rolled to the side, and the voice disappeared. Only static could be heard now.

Chen Chuan had heard the voice clearly before. The person had repeated the words seven times. Once it disappeared, Chen Chuan’s biofield returned to normal. He put a hand on his Realm Pass and contacted the Resolution Department. “Safe Shield, I was attacked just now and defeated my attackers. Please put this on record.”

“Detected biofield abnormality thirty seconds ago. Determined that the biofield has experienced interference. Based on the current situation, determined that you have been attacked. This has been put on record, Lead Investigator Chen,” Safe Shield said.

Chen Chuan lowered his hand.

His biofield wasn’t the only thing that had gone haywire. There was also domain interference, so he hadn’t been able to report it to Safe Shield. The group’s actions, like intercepting him and using domain interference, could be classified as assault. They had, of course, attacked him, but it was a mental attack, so it wasn’t that obvious.

Chen Chuan went to the radio and picked it up. This was proof. While he might not get any answers if he handed it to the Resolution Department, the purity faction should be able to figure something out.

He returned to his motorcade and ordered Yu Xiao, “Captain Yu, take these three along.”

“Understood!” Yu Xiao and his security team answered.

They had known that Chen Chuan was strong, but they had never witnessed just how strong he was. When they saw him easily take down these obviously above average Third Limit martial artists, their hearts filled with excitement and respect.

The security team stepped forward and put the three unconscious men in specially made handcuffs before dragging them into a car. Then, the motorcade continued on its journey.

After Chen Chuan returned to his limousine, he went back to his call with Wu Han. “Something happened on my side just now, so I had to step away for a bit. Have Wei Changan’s team and my friends settled down?”

Wu Han hadn’t noticed anything going amiss. “Don’t worry, I got everything taken care of. Lao Qi helped.”

Chen Chuan understood what he meant. He was basically saying that Qi Gao got everything settled.

“I’ll send you their addresses...” Wu Han said and sent a series of addresses to Chen Chuan. “By the way, guess who I met a few days ago.”

Chen Chuan grinned. “Judging by that tone, are they your friends?”

“Nice guess! Do you remember Geng Zheng, Tai Dongwei, and Deng Fu?”

“I do,” Chen Chuan said with a nod.

The three had joined the Mutual Aid Group, but never did anything bad. However, just because they joined the Mutual Aid Group, they were looked down upon. It seemed like they left Yangzhi City, and now Chen Chuan found out where.

“Apparently, they came to Central City way earlier than I did. I think it was a few months after you came here. They’re working under a pretty capable agent, but I heard from Lao Qi that this agent is really scammy and has a horrible reputation.”

Chen Chuan considered it. “Do you have their contacts?”

“Sure do.”

“Send them to me later, then.”
