Chapter 449: Challenge Hall

"Intuition, huh?" Yi Chen muttered a few seconds after the transmission had ended as a smirk formed on his face, "Why should I resort to something like that and waste my time when I can already use my spiritual energy?"

Snorting in amusement, he soon busied himself with his newly designed schedule, which included cultivating for three hours, practising basic swordsmanship moves with one hand for two hours, reading pill refining books, and refining three batches of Sleeping Crane Pills.

Just like this, another three days passed during which he stuck to the same routine.

In this period, a part of the free time that he managed to squeeze out for himself he spent in the dining hall enjoying his meal with Qin Yao and others, talking about their schedule and daily life and the other part was spent shopping for equipment and ingredients at the Item and Herb Store near the Pill Hall.

While buying a new set of glass beakers during one such occasion, his eyes fell on an interesting item called the ’Pill Efficacy Tester’. It was in the shape of a small cylindrical tube, and just like its name suggested, it could accurately depict the Efficacy of pills below the Tier 3 range.

This was all Yi Chen needed to know, as he instantly bought the item using several high-grade spirit stones so that he wouldn’t have to depend on a lucky remark from the status panel in order to figure it out.

He had already spent another ten thousand experience points because of that problem, which had brought his total experience points down to around sixty thousand.

Thanks to this new item, that problem was solved as Yi Chen started monitoring the efficacy of all his refined batches of pills to be aware of his progress, the rate of which had apparently fallen.

"35.7%... huh?" Yi Chen muttered, letting out a sigh while staring straight at the ceiling. He was currently lying on his bed after a hectic day, but a bitter smile was evident on his face.

Just like Elder Ru Qi had said, passing the 30% efficacy milestone was only half the battle, as the pill’s efficacy rate had been increasing at a snail’s pace.

’But still... now that I think of it, I only need to read a few more books to deepen my knowledge when it comes to spiritual herbs and regular herbs, their intermixing and other related stuff, and I’ll be all ready to give the Pill Apprentice test at the Supreme Pill Forging Guild...’

A grin formed on Yi Chen’s face as he drifted into sleep soon after.

The next morning, when he woke up, it was his fourteenth day of staying in this pill refining room. Along with that, the day also signified another important thing: the completion of his one month in the Heavenly Azure Dragon Sect.

After freshening up and getting dressed, instead of his regular routine, he left his room, going straight towards the dining hall. As for his rental period? He had already extended it by another month during this period.

"So, today’s the day, huh..." Yi Chen muttered while looking up at the morning sky as the tree leaves subtly moved with the wind.

After reaching the dining hall, he soon finished his breakfast with Qin Yao and Dong Yun, who, unlike the girls, never skipped even a single meal.

"It’s rare to see you here in the morning, Brother Chen... do you have any specific plans today?" Qin Yao asked with an inquisitive expression the very next moment.

"Plans, huh? Well, I do have them..." Yi Chen said with a forced smile as he glanced towards Dong Yun the very next instant to change the topic.

"Did you manage to successfully create that Basic unranked Cooling Array yesterday?" Yi Chen asked.

"That..." Dong Yun pursed his lips in sadness the moment he heard those words and said, letting out a sigh, "No, Brother Chen... even my 37th attempt ended in failure."

"That’s a pity... do you need any help with spirit stones? I can help you with tha-"

"Ah, there’s no need for Brother Chen to worry about that stuff. I’ve been on a mission every two days, so I’ve got more than enough contribution points to cover the expenses... if worst comes to worst, I’ll just borrow some from my father.

Although he’s stingy, since he’s a merchant, he has more than enough to help me if I’m truly in need of it,"

Dong Yun explained in an embarrassed manner.

"So that’s how it is..." Yi Chen nodded after hearing that and turned towards Qin Yao, asking, "How about you? Got enough Spirit stones?"

"Yes, Brother Chen, the ones you gave me last time will be more than enough to last the entire month, if not more..." Qin Yao answered in an embarrassed manner.

When he had been given a mountain of high-grade spirit stones by Yi Chen almost a week ago, he was completely stunned by the sight.

’I still have no clue how Brother Chen managed to get his hands on so many high-grade spirit stones...’ Qin Yao thought with a hint of confusion and amazement present in his mind.

"That’s good. Make sure to contact me whenever you need it." Yi Chen emphasised while looking at Qin Yao, as with Elder Lei gone, Yi Chen was his only guardian.

"I will, Brother Chen..." Qin Yao answered in an embarrassed manner while scratching the back of his head, seeing the concern evident on Yi Chen’s face.

"Mhm." Yi Chen nodded, hearing that response and shifting the conversation to a random topic. They soon finished up with their breakfast.

"See you two later." Yi Chen waved his hand at the two of them before making his way towards the centre of the sect where most of the administrative buildings were located.

A few moments later, he stopped in front of a circular building which, from a bird’s-eye view, was the size of a basketball court and had only one floor.

The wooden plaque on top of the building’s entrance had the following words engraved: Challenge Hall.

Seeing a few people going in and out of the building, Yi Chen let out a breath to calm his nerves and muttered to himself, "Let’s officially challenge an Inner Sect Disciple now, shall we?"

With those words, he walked straight inside the building without a second thought.
