Chapter 450: Getting his Way
Inside the challenge hall, several disciples could be seen at various counters, discussing some things with the staff members.
The majority of the disciples were in blue robes, which clearly indicated their status as Inner Sect Disciples.
Seeing Yi Chen walk through the corridor in an attempt to find an empty counter, a few of them momentarily gave him a curious glance before busying themselves with the task they had come to do.
’There it is!’ Yi Chen thought with delight, seeing a counter at the end of the corridor becoming free that very instant as he arrived in front of it.
The staff member at the counter was a middle-aged man who was busy scribbling something on a piece of paper.
Sensing Yi Chen’s arrival, he lifted his eyes to look at him with a subtle hint of curiosity as he stated the very next moment, "State your name and the disciple whom you wish to challenge."
Hearing those words, Yi Chen nodded the very next moment and said, "I’m Yi Chen, an Outer Sect Disciple. As for the disciple whom I wish to challenge...well, I don’t know his name, to be honest... could you help me look it up?"
An awkward expression appeared on Yi Chen’s face as he said those words, as he really had no clue what his opponent’s name was. The only thing he knew was that he needed to challenge the Inner Sect Disciple who was placed last in the ranking.
"Huh?" A frown instantly appeared on the man’s face when he heard Yi Chen’s words and thought that he was trying to mess with him. His tone turned unfriendly the very next moment. "This is no place to joke around, kid. If you don’t know the name of the person whom you wish to challenge, then get lost!"
"Sir... you misunderstand. It’s not a joke, and I’ve really come here to challenge this person. He should be placed last in the Azure Blue Ranking..."
"Azure Blue Ranking? That’s only for the Inner Sect Disciples, you brat. Does it make sense that an Outer Sect Disciple wishes to challenge an Inner Sect Disciple?" The man rolled his eyes when he heard Yi Chen’s argument and was about to send him away.
However, Yi Chen’s next set of words instantly stopped him.
"Of course it does. I wish to be directly promoted to an Inner Sect Disciple after beating that person, the last-ranked disciple."
"You wish to what?!" The man couldn’t help but widen his eyes in shock and exclaimed loudly, causing several other staff members and disciples to turn their heads in their direction.
Quickly lowering his voice, the man leaned towards Yi Chen and grumbled, "What nonsense are you spouting, you brat? Being promoted to Inner Sect Disciple with your cultivation still at the Meridian Refinement Stage? Just where did you hear such nonsense?"
’Looks like he isn’t aware...’ Yi Chen thought with a subtle frown but didn’t fret over it much, for he knew exactly how to deal with it.
Deliberately furrowing his brow, Yi Chen scratched his chin in a confused manner and said, "This... but Grand Elder Jian clearly told me that such a rule existed in our sect’s rule book."
Meeting the man’s eyes, the next moment Yi Chen nodded at him in a grateful manner, "I’ll go and report to him that no such provision exists. Thank you for your help, mister."
With that said, Yi Chen gave the man as innocent a smile as possible before turning around and moving towards the exit.
However, had taken only a couple of steps when the man’s voice urged him to stop.
"Wait...!"
’Bingo!’ Yi Chen grinned inwardly the moment he heard those words as he soon turned around while feigning a confused expression.
"...Yes? What’s the matter?"
"This... you just said Grand Elder Jian, then do you mean..."
"Yes, I mean the Peak Master of the 12th Peak. During the admission process, our batch was lucky enough to meet all the twelve peak masters, so it was at that time he informed us about it."
Yi Chen stated in an obvious tone, shamelessly mixing lies with the truth, and continued, "... but since you said that it isn’t possible, then maybe he was wrong. The next time I meet him, I’ll inform him about that..."
"No! There’s no need..." The man instantly changed his attitude the moment he heard those words. "If it’s Grand Elder Jian who said those words, then he must be correct. Let me go and ask my superior for confirmation, as he’s the most experienced person in this hall."
"Sure."
Yi Chen answered with a bright smile and, at the man’s gesture, took his seat while the middle-aged man rushed towards a cabin that distinctly stood out among the rows of counters.
Inside Elder Mu Di’s cabin.
Sitting at his desk, Elder Mu Di had a frown on his face as he looked at the man sitting in front of him.
Dressed in purple robes, with skin as delicate and unblemished as a pearl, his features looked more feminine than even many women.
"I hope Elder Mu Di won’t have any issues with it..." Elder Yu Xong said with a delicate smile as he sipped the green tea that had been served to him.
"Y-Yes, Elder Yu... I understand. I’ll agree to that disciple’s requests." Elder Mu Di responded with a reddened face while wishing for Elder Yu Xong to leave his cabin as fast as possible.
"That’s good." Elder Yu Xong responded with a sultry smile, wanting to tease Elder Mu Di even further, but just then someone knocked on his cabin’s door.
Knock! Knock!
"Elder Mu... It’s me, Yang Du. There’s a situation I would like to get your input on..."
"This..." Hearing those words, a frown instantly formed on Elder Mu Di’s face as he thought in an irritated mood, ’Didn’t I tell them not to disturb me at this hour?’
Turning towards Elder Yu Xong, he said, "Sorry for that. I’ll send him away right away."
"There’s no need for that, Elder Mu. Let him in." Elder Yu Xong said with an amused smile and continued, "It seems that the man I’ve told you about is already here..."
