Overpowered Resident Doctor

Chapter 629 - 628: Women Hold Up Half the Sky

Chapter 629: Chapter 628: Women Hold Up Half the Sky

At 6:30 PM, the seminar began right on schedule in the small auditorium of Baining Hospital’s main administrative building.

Over 160 neurosurgeons from Jingcheng and other regions were in attendance. Including the doctors and staff from Baining Hospital, the total number of participants exceeded 220.

The atmosphere at the seminar was quite lively, with a continuous stream of doctors eager to speak.

However, Yan Feifan was a little disappointed.

’Perhaps when a group reaches a certain size, their collective wisdom begins to converge.’

He had already heard many of the topics discussed at this seminar during last week’s observational conference at the Affiliated Hospital!

As a result, Yan Feifan felt he didn’t gain much from this conference.

Similarly, despite Director Yu Youhai’s repeated warnings that attendees were only to observe and discuss medical topics—and not to ask the time-strapped Yan Feifan to take on patients—someone did just that.

As the seminar concluded and he was walking back to the guesthouse, Yan Feifan was stopped by a man in his early thirties named Ai Bo.

Given Ai Bo’s age, he had likely attended the observational seminar with his mentor.

He was pleading on behalf of his mother, who had a brain tumor.

Watching Ai Bo bow a full ninety degrees and hold the position, pleading incessantly, Yan Feifan sighed inwardly. "Alright," he said. "Send your mother’s medical records to my email first. I’ll take a look and we’ll go from there."

"Thank you, thank you so much..."

As Ai Bo straightened up, his voice choked with emotion, and he repeatedly wiped the corners of his eyes with the back of his hand.

Yan Feifan gave his email address to Ai Bo and resumed his walk to the guesthouse.

Feng Jian, who had been walking silently beside him, quickened his pace to catch up. He couldn’t help but ask, "Why did you agree to that?"

"He clearly broke the rules!"

Yan Feifan sighed softly. "Try to see it from his perspective. For my sister’s sake, I’d do more than just break the rules; I’d even break the law."

"This man is doing it for his mother, and he didn’t try to guilt-trip me in public. He’s worth helping, at least this once."

Feng Jian grunted in understanding, then said tentatively, "Most patients have families."

"What if all their children come to you, begging just as desperately?"

Yan Feifan shot him a sideways glance.

"Imagine a huge wave washes thousands of small fish onto a beach. Under the scorching sun, they’ll all die soon."

"Seeing this, I’m suddenly moved by compassion. I pick up a fish right in front of me and toss it back into the ocean."

Seeing Feng Jian’s confusion, Yan Feifan elaborated, "To put it idealistically, you could call it fate."

"Ai Bo is that little fish washed up at my feet. He just happened to be there when I was feeling compassionate. It’s as simple as that."

Feng Jian’s face showed he finally understood. "Oh," he said. "So, to put it bluntly, it all comes down to whether you feel like it or not."

"It’s all a matter of your personal whim. In the end, whether you say yes or no is completely up to you!"

Yan Feifan decided not to engage with Feng Jian any further. He quickened his pace and returned to his room at the guesthouse.

He told Feng Jian not to let anyone disturb him, then went into the master bedroom to prepare for the next day’s surgery...

「Meanwhile, at Phoenix Mountain Villa in the southern suburbs of Binhai.」

Wang Chuan led Liu Jin to the study on the third floor. As soon as he closed the door, he asked with a worried expression, "Mr. Liu, what brings you here so late at night? Did they find a major problem with the human trials for Feifan’s research project?"

Liu Jin waved his hand. "There’s nothing to worry about regarding his project. It didn’t cause any serious consequences."

"Even if they did find that Feifan made a mistake, given his current achievements, he’d get a slap on the wrist at most—nothing more than a formal reprimand."

Wang Chuan felt a wave of relief, but then Liu Jin continued in a grave tone, "This evening, the leadership called me in for a talk."

"Barring any major surprises, I’m going to be the new Party Secretary of the Affiliated Hospital."

Wang Chuan was taken aback for a moment, then chuckled. "I have to say, Mr. Liu, did you really come all this way this late at night just to show off to me?"

"Isn’t that a little childish?"

Liu Jin snorted. "Do you really think I’m that bored?"

"Wang Chuan, you listen to me very carefully. What I’m about to tell you is a matter that concerns your entire future."

Seeing how serious he was, Wang Chuan straightened up in his seat. "Mr. Liu, go ahead. I’m all ears."

Liu Jin chided him, "Be serious. I’m telling you, this is a big deal."

He paused for a moment before continuing, "After they told me about my appointment, the leadership also asked for my thoughts on the new management team."

"And I can tell you, I recommended you outright for the position of Vice Director of Medical Affairs."

"But then..."

Liu Jin said, his expression turning urgent, "The leadership immediately handed me a thick letter."

"I opened it, and it was a letter of accusation against you."

"It detailed, in meticulous fashion, how you’ve been secretly taking medical supplies from the plastic surgery center—plasma, anesthetics, medication, sutures, and more—by over-requisitioning items and falsifying records."

"The documentation is incredibly thorough."

"Wang Chuan, tell me, is this true?"

Wang Chuan hesitated for a moment before nodding in admission. "It’s true. Mr. Liu, I mostly took them to practice my skills."

"You know about Yanyan..."

"Wang Chuan..."

Liu Jin cut him off with a furious shout. "Now is not the time to be vague with me."

"I may not have worked on the front lines for many years, but do you really need plasma, anesthetics, and anti-inflammatories just to practice your skills?"

"Besides, the quantities recorded in that letter are not small. It’s enough for ten or twenty surgeries, if not more."

He paused, staring into Wang Chuan’s eyes. "Wang Chuan, tell me the truth..."

"Have you been taking these supplies from the plastic surgery center—the plasma, the anesthetics—to secretly perform surgeries on people?"

Liu Jin’s tone grew heavier. "Wang Chuan, I’m telling you, the letter is so detailed it’s unlikely to be a fabrication. The leadership has already decided to turn the matter over to the police."

Liu Jin noticed Wang Chuan wasn’t panicking as he’d expected. He continued, "Wang Chuan, I am risking disciplinary action for leaking this information—I could even lose my new position. I came here specifically to warn you."

"If you really have been practicing medicine illegally or breaking other laws, you need to come with me to confess to the leadership right now and ask for leniency."

"If you haven’t, then that’s for the best, of course."

Wang Chuan didn’t answer right away. Instead, he stood up and poured a glass of water for Liu Jin and another for himself.

He took a sip from his glass and said slowly, "So, someone doesn’t want to see me get promoted and decided to report me to take me out of the running?"

Seeing that the man before him wasn’t the least bit anxious, Liu Jin also took a sip of water. "Isn’t that obvious?"

"You have a lot of support, and with your close relationship with Feifan, your chances of being selected were very high."

He added slowly, "Judging by how detailed the report is, this person has been watching you for quite some time."

"Or perhaps, someone close to you betrayed you?"

"Wang Chuan, from the looks of it, you already have a contingency plan, don’t you?"

Wang Chuan sighed softly and admitted, "Mr. Liu, I’ll be honest with you. Everything in that letter is true."

"I did take a lot of supplies from the center to perform surgeries on people off-site."

"However, I’ve used my own money to cover the costs on the books, so I haven’t taken advantage of the hospital or the center."

Liu Jin said, confused, "Wang Chuan, this isn’t something you can resolve just by balancing the books."

"So what’s your ace in the hole?"

A horrible thought struck Liu Jin, and his voice trembled as he asked, "Wang Chuan, don’t tell me you’re planning to flee with your daughter tonight?"

"Look how scared you are. Afraid you’ll be implicated?"

Wang Chuan gave him a contemptuous look, then said with relief, "That escape plan was my old contingency."

"But now, I no longer need it."

"I have a new trump card: a letter of amnesty."

"A letter of amnesty?" Liu Jin was confused.

"I’ll have it in a day or two. I’ll show it to you when I get it!"

Wang Chuan explained briefly, then added in a somber tone, "Even with a letter of amnesty, I still did something wrong. This promotion is out of the question."

"I can’t get the promotion, but I won’t let the person who reported me reap the benefits either."

"Mr. Liu, this next term’s hospital leadership can’t possibly be another all-male lineup, can it?"

"Women hold up half the sky, after all..."
