Chapter 693: Chapter 692: A New Beginning
After the fatal incident, the rest of the trip for the Yan siblings, Wang Chuan, and the others was smooth sailing. No more troublesome events occurred.
They toured the lake by night and explored the islands by day. At mealtimes, they savored delicious local seafood from the lake. Before they knew it, it was time for their return trip the next day.
At 1:30 on Sunday afternoon, their group of seven, along with Xu Zhen, disembarked from the yacht and once again boarded the luxury tour bus.
The bus then slowly pulled away, soon leaving the beautiful Qiandao Lake Scenic Area behind.
It wasn’t until the bus was on the highway that Yan Feifan finally became certain of one thing: that person wasn’t going to show up.
He had originally assumed the person behind the scenes, the one who had quietly paid for and arranged this trip, would appear before him in some fashion.
To his surprise, the person was more patient than he had imagined.
’Playing the long game for a bigger catch?’
Yan Feifan soon stopped dwelling on it. ’When that person needs my help, they’ll surely show up on their own.’
’At that point, he’d make his decision based on their request and all the surrounding circumstances...’
"Mr. Yan, is Tang Zheng’s surgery starting soon?"
Yan Feifan pulled his gaze from the window, turned to look at Yanyan sitting diagonally behind him, and said, "Around November."
Yanyan let out an "oh," then asked, "Mr. Yan, after I have my nerve division surgery, will I also need to wait three or four months?"
Yan Feifan considered for a moment before saying, "You won’t have to wait that long."
"The current trials on in-vivo nerve cultivation show that a divided nerve becomes viable for transplantation after recovering for one or two months."
"However, to be on the safe side, we plan to let it cultivate in-vivo for three to four months before performing the transplant surgery."
In fact, some results from the in-vivo cultivation trials for divided facial and arm nerves had already started coming in.
For one-third of the volunteers, the in-vivo nerve cultivation had failed.
The other branch of their divided nerve showed signs of an extremely sluggish response to bioelectrical stimulation, severe atrophy, and in some cases, even necrosis.
However, they had made a welcome discovery.
Tests showed that for the four volunteers whose nerve divisions Yan Feifan had performed, both branches of the divided facial nerves had normal conduction functions.
Similarly, the multiple divided nerves on Tang Zheng’s left face, which Yan Feifan also handled, showed no complications during the most recent examination.
However, among the surgeries handled by Wang Chuan and Mr. Lo respectively, some volunteers did experience problems.
As for the four volunteers whose surgeries were performed by one of Mr. Lo’s assistants, all of them, quite unfortunately, ran into issues.
This made one thing clear.
Their concept was viable, but it placed high demands on the technical skill of the lead surgeon.
To keep Yanyan from worrying too much, Yan Feifan reassured her, "Yanyan, when it’s time for your operation, I’ll handle the entire procedure myself."
"The most experienced anesthesiologist in the entire hospital will be in charge of your post-operative pain management."
"The nerve recovery promoters and other drugs you’ll be given will also be the best in the world."
After a pause, Yan Feifan made a solemn promise, "Yanyan, I will absolutely make you the most beautiful girl."
Yanyan said, a little bashfully, "Mr. Yan, you’re just saying nice things to make me happy."
"I’ll be happy just to look like a normal person again."
Yan Feifan chuckled softly. "Yanyan, with an expectation like that, you’re seriously underestimating the nation’s top plastic surgeon."
"I can do what I say I can do."
"It’s just that it can’t be achieved in a single surgery."
He added as a reminder, "Yanyan, focus on getting your body strong first."
Yanyan nodded emphatically, her eyes sparkling, and said, "Dad said you have a patient who’s an absolute madman, someone who’ll stop at nothing to turn himself from a burly man into a slender beauty."
"If he’s not afraid of the agonizing pain, then I’m not afraid either."
Yan Feifan encouraged her, "Yanyan, you really only need to tough it out for about half a month. It’s much easier than what he’s going through."
Speaking of which, he glanced at Wang Chuan beside him and asked, "How has that guy been doing these last few days? Has he been crying or making a scene?"
Wang Chuan chuckled. "With the pain pump, he’s been pretty quiet these past few days."
"But you know the worst part is yet to come. It’s after they take away the pain pump, when he’s stuck in bed and can’t move freely during that long recovery."
After a moment of silence, Wang Chuan changed the subject. "Feifan, Mr. Lo and I have discussed it, and we’re planning to perform the in-vivo nerve transplant surgeries on the volunteers at the end of this month."
"This will move the trial to its next phase, and at the same time, we’ll recruit another batch of volunteers with facial and arm nerve damage."
Yan Feifan grunted in acknowledgment as Wang Chuan continued, "To ensure a high success rate, we were thinking you should handle all the nerve division surgeries for the new batch of volunteers..."
"No problem!"
Yan Feifan agreed readily and then asked, "Has there been any promising progress in Mr. Shi’s and Dr. Luo’s research on nerve pain management?"
Wang Chuan sighed in disappointment. "Not yet."
"We’ve poured nearly two million into R&D, and so far we haven’t heard a peep..."
Throughout the trip, their conversation drifted from medical research to patients and surgeries, and even to amusing social anecdotes. They even fired up the bus’s entertainment system, and everyone belted out a few songs, making the four-hour-plus journey home anything but dull.
At nearly 6:00 PM, after getting off the highway, the bus pulled over to the side of the road before entering the city of Binhai.
Wang Chuan and Yanyan got off the bus and got into the car Mrs. Hua had brought to pick them up.
After 7:00 PM, the bus finally came to a smooth stop at the south gate of the Zuimo Court District.
Yan Feifan got off the bus and couldn’t help but stretch.
"Mr. Yan, I hope our service met your expectations and that you had a satisfying weekend!"
Yan Feifan looked at Xu Zhen, who was standing by the bus door and bowing slightly as she spoke to him. He replied politely, "I was very satisfied. Thank you for everything."
’To be honest, she’d done an excellent job accompanying them the entire time.’
’When she wasn’t needed, she was nowhere in sight.’
’But whenever they needed something, she would always appear at just the right time.’
’Xu Zhen’s descriptions of the scenery around Qiandao Lake were also spot-on, delivered in a pleasant and engaging manner.’
’And she had impeccably arranged all the snacks, drinks, and several large meals for the group over the past two days.’
"Xu Zhen, you did an excellent job. Truly fantastic!"
Yan Feifan didn’t hold back his praise, then asked, "Is there any paperwork we need to sign?"
"Or, are there any other fees to settle?"
Xu Zhen chuckled softly. "Mr. Yan, none of that is necessary. All the expenses were covered by that ninety-eight thousand."
As she spoke, she presented a business card to him with both hands.
"Mr. Yan, our company, Jiuzhen Consulting, specializes in providing customized services for our clients."
"Our aim and our motto is, ’There’s nothing we can’t do, only things you haven’t imagined.’"
At this, Xu Zhen smiled sheepishly and said, "That might be a bit of an exaggeration."
"But our service philosophy is to provide the best possible service to meet our clients’ needs."
Yan Feifan took the business card and glanced at the title printed on it: Senior Account Manager.
"Xu Zhen, your service on this trip was very impressive."
"If I need anything like this again, I’ll contact you!"
Xu Zhen bowed slightly again. "Mr. Yan, thank you for the recognition. I look forward to serving you again..."
After exchanging a few more words with Xu Zhen and parting ways, Yan Feifan, his sister, Yu Suye, Duan Yu, and Feng Jian walked into the residential district.
"Feifan, are you tired?"
In response to his sister’s question, Yan Feifan smiled. "Not at all. This trip was like recharging my batteries. I’m full of energy."
"It’s perfect timing. Tomorrow is a new start, and I’m ready to greet it in a better state, both mentally and physically!"
Yan Ziruo giggled. "Feifan, since the trip had such a remarkable effect, should we take a trip every month or two?"
Yan Feifan retorted, "Sis, aren’t you afraid my ’disaster magnet’ constitution will stir up trouble?"
Yan Ziruo huffed, "You troublemaker. It’s not like you give me any less to worry about when you’re just working at the hospital."
"So, we might as well go out and have some fun!"
"Right, Su Ye?"
Yu Suye voiced her agreement. "I agree with your suggestion, Ziruo. We should take regular trips to go out and relax..."
