Overpowered Resident Doctor

Chapter 771: A Little Scheme

Chapter 771 -770: A Little Scheme

Thursday arrived quickly.

At 10:50 AM, after completing a puncture and injection procedure on a brain tumor, Yan Feifan met with Zhang Run and his ex-wife, Luo Di, in his office at the Little Red House.

Yan Feifan found that Luo Di’s complexion and spirits were as good as ever.

Her gaze was calm, and she wore a warm, inviting smile.

Most notably, her figure hadn’t changed much compared to three weeks ago.

This made Yan Feifan nod inwardly.

Generally, patients diagnosed with a malignant tumor experience rapid weight loss.

The fact that Luo Di hadn’t experienced this change indicated, for one, that the tumors in her body were indeed being effectively controlled.

And two, it showed that her mindset was genuinely strong; she hadn’t been defeated by the illness.

Yan Feifan took the MRI scans Zhang Run handed him and placed them one by one on the light box viewer.

Under the bright light of the viewer, Yan Feifan could clearly see that the five tumors that had been injected with the drug had all shrunk by one-quarter to one-third in volume.

‘It seems the new anti-cancer drug is truly effective.’

However, a small shadow had been discovered on Luo Di’s left lung, and an additional small tumor had appeared on her liver.

This was the frustrating part about metastasis.

It was like a game of whack-a-mole. You would get one tumor under control, and another would pop up somewhere else, making it impossible to guard against.

As per Zhang Run’s recommendation, they would ignore the shadow on the left lung for now. This time, including the new small tumor on her liver, Yan Feifan would perform a total of six targeted injections for Luo Di.

Using the MRI scans, Yan Feifan hand-drew three-dimensional perspective views of the six tumors for Zhang Run to calculate the drug dosage and determine the injection sites…

After lunch, in a patient room on the tenth floor, Yan Feifan started the procedure for Luo Di at 12:50 PM. It took him nearly half an hour to complete all six targeted injections.

“Mr. Yan, please wait a moment…”

Yan Feifan, who had been about to leave, stopped and turned back as Zhang Run called out to him.

“Mr. Yan, I have a bold request!”

Zhang Run said with a sincere expression, “Although my anti-cancer drug is still in the clinical trial phase, a number of wealthy patients have already sought it out, so our research funding is quite ample.”

He gave Yan Feifan a knowing look and continued, “I’d like to invite you to join my project team.”

“Mr. Yan, your precise injection technique can maximize the efficacy of this anti-cancer drug.”

“What are your thoughts, Mr. Yan?”

Yan Feifan politely declined, “Thank you for the invitation, but my work schedule is quite tight. I don’t have the extra time or energy to take on additional work.”

Zhang Run tried to persuade him further. “Mr. Yan, if you join the project team, I’ll still be sending the patients here to you.”

“Your daily work would, at most, be like today—about an hour should be enough.”

“It won’t take up much more of your time, and your compensation for the effort would be at least ten thousand yuan per session, to start.”

Yan Feifan just smiled. “Mr. Zhang, my schedule really is tight. Let’s just leave it at that for today.”

With that, he gave Zhang no further opportunity to persuade him, turned, and left the room. He then walked into Room Five.

Tang Zheng, who was sitting on his bed reading a medical textbook, tossed the book aside in frustration when he saw Yan Feifan enter and began to take off his hospital gown.

Yan Feifan quickly stopped him.

“Mr. Tang, you don’t need to take off your clothes. I don’t need to do another examination.”

Tang Zheng straightened his gown and said self-deprecatingly, “You, Mr. Shi, and a few others have been coming in one after another. I’ve developed a conditioned reflex.”

“You can’t be like this when it’s time for Yanyan’s surgery.”

Yan Feifan laughed. “Yanyan is a little girl. Of course, her treatment will be very different from yours, Mr. Tang.”

“This time, just consider it your sacrifice for medical science.”

Yan Feifan glanced at the book he had tossed aside. “*Finger Replantation: Techniques and Case Studies*?”

Tang Zheng explained, “If my face recovers reasonably well, I’ll naturally stick to being a plastic surgeon.”

“If the recovery isn’t so ideal, I’ve been thinking about switching specialties to become a trauma surgeon.”

He picked up the book again and added, “Mr. Yan, don’t get the wrong idea. It’s not that I don’t have faith in you.”

“I just wanted to see how difficult finger replantation surgery is, to see if I could keep up if I switched specialties.”

“I won’t,” Yan Feifan said, unfazed.

After a pause, he asked, “Mr. Tang, did you file a complaint with the hospital against the two young nurses, Ye Lin and Xv Shuang?”

He had gotten a call from the head nurse, Liu Qingfang, during lunch, telling him that Tang Zheng had filed a complaint with the Patient Services Department of the Medical Administration Office.

Tang Zheng grunted and said angrily, “Jio Xin came to see me this morning. That’s when I found out that it’s all over the nurses’ group chat—they’re saying I’m all show and no go, a ‘little toothpick.'”

“On Tuesday, when you were examining me, I clearly saw one of them shake her head and the other curl her lip in disdain.”

“They’re definitely the ones who spread it.”

Tang Zheng then adopted a tone as if he were doing Yan Feifan a favor. “Mr. Yan, with your level of medical skill, you deal with a high caliber of patient. That requires a high-quality medical team.”

“You could use my complaint as an opportunity to fire those two and hire two people with better professional standards.”

Yan Feifan resisted the urge to roll his eyes, thinking Tang Zheng was making a mountain out of a molehill.

‘Perhaps those two really did hit a sore spot?’

‘That part of him…’

Yan Feifan thought back. Judging from the visible outline, it did seem a bit smaller than average.

Yan Feifan put on a serious expression. “Mr. Tang, I appreciate the thought.”

“But for something like this, you could have told me or the head nurse first. There was no need to file a formal complaint with the hospital.”

“Besides, both of them insist they never said anything about you to anyone else.”

Tang Zheng scoffed in disbelief. “Now that there’s a complaint, of course they’ll deny it to their dying breath.”

“But I saw how they acted that day with my own two eyes.”

“I’ll have them apologize to you for their inappropriate behavior that day,” Yan Feifan said dismissively.

Before leaving, he didn’t forget to remind him, “Mr. Tang, you have one more chance for a big meal tonight.”

“After the surgery tomorrow, you won’t be able to eat properly for a while…”

Shortly after Yan Feifan left, Shi Min arrived at Zhang Run and his ex-wife’s hospital room to visit.

“Mr. Shi, I wanted to tell you something…”

Zhang Run sighed softly. “To show my gratitude to Mr. Yan, I kindly invited him to join my research team. He’d just have to work an hour at most each day injecting the drug into patients, and he’d earn a service fee of three to five hundred thousand yuan a month, at least.”

“I never thought Mr. Yan would refuse.”

“Mr. Shi…”

Zhang Run met Shi Min’s gaze, only to find the professor’s face had turned grim. The words died on his lips.

Shi Min said coldly, “Zhang Run, you’ve got some nerve.”

“Asking Feifan to be your hired gun, just injecting your patients with drugs every day? Are you out of your mind?”

Shi Min scoffed. “Three to five hundred thousand?”

“You think that’s a lot?”

“Feifan can make three or four million from a single cosmetic surgery.”

“Don’t think I don’t know what you’re really up to.”

“You just want to exploit Feifan’s detailed grasp of human anatomy and his incomparably precise injection technique to dramatically improve the trial data for your anti-cancer drug!”

Shi Min noticed his words had made Zhang Run squirm, and fine beads of sweat were forming on his forehead.

He continued his warning, “Zhang Run, get rid of all those inappropriate little ideas of yours.”

“Feifan is not someone you should be plotting to use.”

Shi Min glanced at Luo Di, who was still sleeping soundly on the hospital bed.

“If it weren’t for the fact that you’re still being decent and loyal to your ex-wife, I never would have helped plead your case to Feifan.”

“Feifan’s time and energy are very precious…”

At that moment, Yan Feifan was answering a call from Song Yi.

“Yes! Feifan, I just got the notice! We’re going to City Hall tomorrow to sign the contract.”

“Feifan, I’ve slept less than eight hours in the last two days and nights, but it was all worth it.”

“Hey, are you free tomorrow? You should come to City Hall to witness this historic moment for our Extraordinary Medical Technology!”

“I have surgery tomorrow!” Yan Feifan’s reply was curt.
