Chapter 449: Finally Met the Real Person

Chapter 449: Chapter 449: Finally Met the Real Person

The banquet hall at the Bai Family’s villa was quite large, a good four to five hundred square meters. Two fireplaces were installed in the hall, and despite it being winter, the entire room was very warm. A long table was laden with exquisite pastries and cold platters, while waiters weaved through the crowd carrying wooden trays of wine glasses.

Su Qing stared, a little dazed. If it weren’t for the different style of clothing on the people around her, she might have mistaken this for an evening banquet hosted by one of Xiangcheng’s prestigious families.

A setup like this wouldn’t be out of place even decades from now.

Mr. Bai seemed to notice Su Qing’s surprise and chuckled. "The younger generation in the family likes to be trendy. They took a trip to Xiangcheng and decided that their way of hosting banquets was more convenient. They insisted on setting all this up themselves. It turned out alright, I suppose."

Mr. Gong smiled and said, "It is indeed quite nice."

Hearing his old friend’s praise, Mr. Bai’s smile grew wider. Spotting one of his own younger family members, he quickly called out, "Min Yun, this is a young lady with your Grandpa Gong. Please help entertain her a bit, and make sure she’s not neglected."

Bai Minyun walked over, first greeting Mr. Gong, then she turned to Su Qing with a smile. "Hello, my name is Bai Minyun. It’s a pleasure to meet you."

Su Qing smiled back. "I’m Su Qing."

"Su Qing?" Upon hearing her name, Bai Minyun blinked, a look of surprise crossing her face. "Oh, so you’re Su Qing! This is great! I’ve finally met you in person. I’ve been wanting to get to know you, but I never had the chance."

With that, Bai Minyun enthusiastically grabbed Su Qing’s hand. "Come on, I’ll introduce you to some new friends."

Then, Bai Minyun turned back to Mr. Bai and Mr. Gong. "Grandpa, Grandpa Gong, you two go ahead and mingle. I’ll take good care of Su Qing."

And with that, she excitedly pulled Su Qing toward a corner of the banquet hall.

Seeing this, Mr. Bai chuckled and said to Mr. Gong, "Well now, your young lady seems to be hitting it off with my granddaughter. Excellent, excellent."

After speaking, Mr. Bai seemed to recall something and looked at Mr. Gong. "Su Qing... I was just thinking that name sounded familiar. Let me ask you, is this the young woman who cracked that big case involving the drug lord and saved all those people? Is that her? Elder Li’s granddaughter?"

While the general public wasn’t very clear on the details of Su Qing assisting the police in taking down that drug den, people in certain circles were well aware of it. They were even very clear about Su Qing’s identity.

Mr. Gong nodded. "Yes. The girl is very capable."

"It really is her." Mr. Bai couldn’t help but be surprised. "You really can’t judge a book by its cover. Just by looking at her, I never would have connected this young woman with the Su Qing who helped the police crack that case."

Mr. Gong smiled, looking rather proud. "This girl is really something else."

Mr. Bai hmphed. "Listen to you, gloating."

Meanwhile, Bai Minyun had pulled Su Qing to a corner of the hall where a few other young people were gathered, chatting and laughing. Bai Minyun said with a grin, "Let me introduce someone. You’ll never guess who it is."

"Who is it?" The young men and women who had been talking and laughing looked over at Bai Minyun’s words, all curiously sizing up Su Qing.

These young people were all from families specializing in traditional Chinese medicine. Although they lived in different cities, they kept in contact with one another and were all acquainted. Seeing Bai Minyun pull over a girl they didn’t recognize, they were naturally quite curious.

"Su Qing!" Bai Minyun lifted her chin proudly. "You all remember her, right?"

Seeing Bai Minyun’s proud little expression, Su Qing was secretly amused. ’This Bai Minyun is an interesting character.’

However!

Su Qing pursed her lips slightly. ’But wait... from the way Bai Minyun is talking, it sounds like I’m pretty well-known among this group?’

"Su Qing?" Hearing Bai Minyun, one of the girls, who looked about Su Qing’s age, studied her curiously again. She blinked, thought for a moment, and then her eyes widened. "Ah, Su Qing! Are you the Su Qing who single-handedly took down the drug lord’s main base?"

"Ah, *that* Su Qing?" a young man also asked, looking at her with curiosity.

"Oh my god, I admire you so much! I finally get to meet you in person."

"Me too, me too! Su Qing, you’re amazing!"

...

Once it sank in, the young men and women all started chattering excitedly, gathering around Su Qing and expressing their excitement one after another.

"Er..." Su Qing blinked. ’Has the story really gotten that exaggerated? I mean, I probably *could* have taken that place down by myself, but I wouldn’t dare do that. It’d be too hard to explain. I just led the way and pulled a few small strings behind the scenes.’

’But these guys... they’re going around saying I took down the drug den all by myself.’

’Good grief!’

"It wasn’t that dramatic," Su Qing said with a laugh. "I just happened to run into the situation and led the police there. The officers did all the real work. They’re the ones who are amazing."

"But you’re still amazing," a girl said admiringly. "I heard that place was deep in the mountains, somewhere people rarely ever go because it’s so remote. For a girl like you to dare go that deep into the mountains alone... If it were me, I’d never have the guts."

Su Qing laughed. "I grew up near the mountains, so I’m pretty familiar with them and have some experience. Plus, I’ve always been a bit daring. So really, it was just a coincidence."

"Amazing, truly amazing," a young man of about twenty asked. "Su Qing, did you go into the mountains to gather herbs?"

Almost everyone at this gathering had some connection to traditional Chinese medicine. Many elders from these families required their younger generation to go into the mountains to gather herbs. Of course, they never went that deep. For one, it was just to let them experience the hardships of the task, and for another, it was for their own safety.

"No, that’s not right. I heard Su Qing went to save a friend of hers."

In Bai Minyun’s circles, one was more or less privy to the truth behind many matters.

"Ah, Su Qing, you did it to save a friend? Oh my gosh, your friends are so lucky to have you." A girl looked at Su Qing, her eyes practically sparkling. "Can I be your friend, too?"

Su Qing gave a small smile. "Of course."

’When it comes to making friends, Su Qing naturally wouldn’t refuse. After all, the more friends you have, the more paths are open to you. That was true in this world, and it was true in the apocalypse.’

Seeing Su Qing nod, the group was overjoyed. Bai Minyun was smiling, just about to introduce everyone to Su Qing one by one, when an unpleasant voice cut in from the side. "Tch. You’re all fawning over a country bumpkin."
