Chapter 450: Liu Jiajia’s Resentment

Chapter 450: Chapter 450: Liu Jiajia’s Resentment

The jarring voice made everyone pause and turn to look at the speaker.

Su Qing turned her head and raised an eyebrow. ’So it’s her,’ she thought. It was that girl, Liu Jiajia. If Su Qing hadn’t seen her today, she would have completely forgotten she even existed.

Back when they bought the courtyard house at Beijing University, they had gotten into a dispute with Liu Jiajia and her mother. She recalled that Liu Jiajia and Li Huan didn’t get along and always seemed to be at each other’s throats. Later, after Li Huan was burned by Song Yufang, this Liu Jiajia had even gloated over her misfortune. However, at the time, neither Su Qing nor Li Huan had paid her any mind. Then came the bickering with the Song Family and the trip to Xiangcheng. Su Qing had been away for over two months and had completely forgotten about Liu Jiajia.

She never expected to run into Liu Jiajia at this exchange event today.

Liu Jiajia glared at Su Qing with hostility. She had never taken Su Qing seriously before. She was just a granddaughter the Li family had brought back from the outside, raised in the countryside, so she was naturally uncultured. So what if she became Beijing’s top scorer on the college entrance exam and got into Beijing University? Who knew if there was something shady going on? In her opinion, with the Li family’s status and resources, it wouldn’t be difficult to help a long-lost granddaughter boost her standing and gain public acceptance by rigging her into being Beijing’s top scorer.

But the infuriating part was that the boy Liu Jiajia liked was actually interested in Su Qing. Even if Su Qing was unaware of it, it was enough to make Liu Jiajia despise her.

’On what grounds? Doesn’t this little bitch just get by on her looks?’

’As for status, so what if she’s Elder Li’s granddaughter? She’s still an outsider. My father is the vice-minister of finance! In a few years, when the minister retires, my dad will be promoted. Isn’t my status way better than Su Qing’s?’

Bai Minyun didn’t know Liu Jiajia and frowned. "Who are you? Su Qing is a guest of our Bai Family. Please don’t stir up trouble here, or I’ll have to ask you to leave."

After speaking, Bai Minyun turned to the other young men and women. "Who brought her in?"

Bai Minyun was angry. Su Qing was her idol, and she absolutely wouldn’t allow anyone to speak about her like that.

’Country bumpkin!’

’Go back a few generations, and whose family wasn’t from the countryside?’

’Even their Bai Family started out in the countryside. Looking down on country folk? Isn’t the food you eat grown by country folk? If you’ve got the guts, then don’t eat it! Looking down on farmers while eating the food they grow—how shameless can you be!’

"I’m so sorry, Min Yun. This is my distant cousin," a girl said to Bai Minyun, embarrassed. "I brought her."

After she finished, the girl said to Liu Jiajia, "Cousin, this is the Bai Family’s party, and everyone’s having a good time. Why are you trying to ruin the mood? If you don’t want to chat with us, just go over there and get something to eat. Otherwise, if the hosts kick you out, I’ll be too embarrassed to say a word on your behalf."

The girl was mortified. She had only brought Liu Jiajia because the Liu Family had asked her family to. Because of the family connection and Mr. Liu’s official position, her family couldn’t refuse. But who knew she would cause such a scene right after arriving? ’This is completely ruining the Bai Family’s event!’

Liu Jiajia wanted to say more, but she suddenly remembered what her father had told her before she left. She pressed her lips together, shot Su Qing a resentful glare, and walked over to another part of the room. Her family had asked a relative to bring her with the express purpose of befriending the younger members of these traditional Chinese medicine families. She’d even heard that Mr. Gong would be at the event today and was planning to use this opportunity to show her face and make a good impression on him. If her father’s position hadn’t made it inconvenient for him to attend, he would have been the one here today.

It was a good thing Liu Jiajia hadn’t noticed Su Qing arriving with Mr. Gong. Otherwise, she definitely would have restrained herself and not provoked Su Qing just now.

Su Qing watched Liu Jiajia calmly without saying a word. She hadn’t expected these friends she had just met to defend her so fiercely. It was a pleasant surprise.

Seeing that Liu Jiajia had left, Bai Minyun didn’t press the issue. She smiled at Su Qing and said, "Let me introduce you all. Everyone should get to know each other."

"Okay," Su Qing agreed with a smile.

Besides Liu Jiajia and Bai Minyun, there were four other young people there. One was Bai Minyun’s younger brother, Bai Minsan. Another was a junior from the Zhang family of Nan City named Zhang Lianchuan. There was also a girl from the Tang Family of Sichuan Province named Tang Mo—she was the one who had brought Liu Jiajia, as her family had a distant relation to Liu Jiajia’s mother. The last person was a girl from the Fang Family of Yang City, Fang Peizhen.

Once they were all introduced, the conversation became much more enthusiastic.

They all had good personalities and, like Bai Minyun, held a certain admiration for Su Qing’s accomplishments, as if she were an idol. Naturally, they were all eager to befriend her.

The group chatted for a while until most of the guests for the exchange event had arrived. Mr. Bai came forward, said a few words, and then told everyone to mingle freely. The Bai Family’s original intention for this event was to facilitate open discussion, so they naturally wouldn’t interfere much.

Just then, Fang Peizhen noticed Liu Jiajia striking up a happy conversation with another group of young people. She secretly nudged Tang Mo. "Your distant cousin is quite the social butterfly, able to talk to anyone. How come she had no filter just a moment ago?"

Fang Peizhen didn’t like Liu Jiajia. She had been indifferent at first, but after Liu Jiajia’s unprovoked attack on Su Qing, she now found everything about her irritating.

Tang Mo was also very frustrated. Although Su Qing didn’t seem to be holding Liu Jiajia’s actions against her, she still felt incredibly annoyed. "I don’t actually know her that well. My family is in Sichuan Province, so we don’t have much contact with them. If my mom hadn’t told me to bring her, I never would have brought her along to cause trouble. Honestly, it’s so irritating."

"You should probably keep your distance from this relative of yours in the future. She doesn’t seem like a good person," Fang Peizhen whispered to Tang Mo.

"Yeah, this is the last time. I’m never bringing her again. It’s too embarrassing. And she discriminates against people from the countryside, too. She doesn’t even stop to think that her own family was from the countryside two generations ago. Her maternal grandmother lives in a mountain village in my home province of Sichuan. If her mom hadn’t married her dad, she’d be a country girl herself."

"She’s just awful," Fang Peizhen said with a pout. As the youngest of the group, she wore her emotions on her sleeve.

"Alright, let’s not talk about her anymore," Bai Minyun said. "Since you all are in Beijing and we’ve all met Su Qing today, why don’t we find some time to get a meal together? We can celebrate becoming friends."

"Good idea," the others nodded.

Su Qing also smiled. "Sounds good to me."

Only Zhang Lianchuan was looking around, seemingly not having heard what Bai Minyun said.

Bai Minsan tapped Zhang Lianchuan’s shoulder. "Lianchuan, who are you looking for?"
