Chapter 357: Chapter 357: Don’t Mind Sending Him to Reincarnate Again
Stella Sterling glanced up at him, then returned to what she was doing.
"I’m not afraid, but I don’t want to kill needlessly."
’It’s true that I’m not afraid of them. If they found out, I’m confident I could deal with them—make it so they couldn’t talk and ensure my secret wouldn’t get out.’
But she didn’t want to do that!
Unlike those who actively provoked her, Stella Sterling had no desire to act against people who hadn’t.
’But if my secret were discovered, I couldn’t just let them expose it.’
’That would mean I’d have to find a way to... take care of them.’
’But what did those people do wrong?’
So, if she could avoid being discovered, Stella Sterling preferred it that way.
Hearing this response, Andrew Shaw was a little confused.
’This woman in front of me is so contradictory and strange,’ he thought. ’I can’t understand what goes on in her head at all.’
But Stella Sterling had no intention of explaining further to him.
’If he gets it, he gets it. If not, so be it. I don’t need to explain myself to him.’
Stella Sterling led him as they weaved through the city.
At times, she would see a few people rummaging through the ruins.
When they saw Stella Sterling and her companion, they watched them with wary and guarded expressions but made no other moves.
And some of the more timid people would run away the moment they spotted Stella and her companion from a distance.
When Stella Sterling came across areas where people were scavenging, she ignored them, avoided the spot, and moved on to the next one.
When she was nearly finished with her business, she casually grabbed someone. Taking a closer look, she saw it was the same dark, skinny teenager she had encountered when she first entered the city.
"What are you doing? Let me go!"
"Let me go!"
The person shouted in a panic, his voice laced with terror as he struggled relentlessly.
"Calm down. I just want to ask you a few questions,"
Stella Sterling said, and then she actually did let him go.
But the person paid no attention to what Stella Sterling said. The moment he was free, he bolted.
Watching him sprint away, Stella Sterling raised an eyebrow. She didn’t chase him, just said with a hint of resignation, "Do I really look that scary?"
But even as she said it, she knew perfectly well that in a situation like this, being wary of everyone was the right thing to do.
"Of course not, beautiful. How could you be scary? You’re practically a little angel."
Andrew Shaw chimed in from the side at the perfect moment, shamelessly flattering Stella Sterling.
Stella Sterling, however, just looked at him and said with a grin, "Time for you to get to work!"
Andrew Shaw, who had been in the middle of his flattery, froze. He looked at Stella Sterling warily. "What do you want me to do?"
"Go get a couple of people for me. I want to ask them some questions!"
"No way, beautiful. I’m just a kid. If you make me go alone, it’s like throwing a meat bun at a dog—I’ll be gone for good."
He backed up a few steps, protesting nonstop.
But Stella Sterling didn’t change her mind. She stared at him and said, "Look at the people we’ve run into. Every single one is sallow and emaciated from hunger. They have no fight in them. They can’t run away from us fast enough. What are you worried about?"
Andrew Shaw didn’t relent. "That may be true, but that’s because you’re around. If they see a kid like me acting alone, they’ll get different ideas."
"Relax. Don’t worry," Stella Sterling said calmly. "I’ll be keeping an eye on things here. If you’re in danger, I’ll step in and save you."
’Anyone who has taken a Loyal Servant Pill... as long as I wish it, I can sense their approximate location and condition.’
But Andrew Shaw didn’t know this. He still felt uneasy. Just then, however, Stella Sterling tossed something to him.
He caught it instinctively and saw that it was a small pistol.
His eyes lit up, and he looked over at Stella Sterling.
Stella Sterling said to him, "This should be enough, right? If you do a good job, you’ll get extra food tonight."
This time, Andrew Shaw was truly tempted. He wanted to try and negotiate for better terms, but just as he opened his mouth, he saw that Stella Sterling’s expression had already turned sour.
So he immediately changed his tune, nodding repeatedly. "Okay, okay, okay! I guarantee I’ll complete the mission."
’With a gun and my experience from my past life, just fetching a person shouldn’t be a problem.’ He figured he could handle it. After all, those people really didn’t look like they could put up a fight.
The thought of getting extra food tonight made him chuckle slyly. His small body seemed exceptionally nimble and quick in the abandoned city, and he soon vanished from Stella Sterling’s sight.
As for Stella Sterling, she found a spot and sat down right where she was, lost in thought.
It wasn’t long before Andrew Shaw found someone. As luck would have it, it was the same teenager who had just escaped from Stella Sterling.
Before long, Andrew Shaw had lured the boy over with half of a steamed bun.
Things went smoothly—much more smoothly than he had imagined. Andrew Shaw was delighted. He led the teenager forward, reassuring him constantly along the way that they meant no harm and just wanted to ask him a few questions.
After he promised the teenager another half of a steamed bun for his cooperation, the boy followed obediently behind Andrew Shaw.
This led to a rather strange scene: a five-year-old child leading the way, with a teenager following behind.
And the teenager was actually quiet and obedient.
Andrew Shaw soon spotted Stella Sterling. He was about to call out to her, but he suddenly seemed to think of something and swallowed the words on the tip of his tongue.
He stared in Stella Sterling’s direction, a strange look in his eyes.
’I have a gun now. If I...’
’Maybe I can finally get rid of this woman and stop living in her shadow.’
Conflict flickered in his eyes, followed by flashes of his time with the woman over the past few days.
In the end, he did nothing. He tucked away that little thought and ran quickly toward Stella Sterling.
"I’m back! Mission accomplished!"
Stella Sterling looked at him, her gaze inscrutable. She had seen everything he had done from a distance just now.
He thought she hadn’t noticed, but in reality, she had spotted him the moment he appeared and had witnessed his hesitation and inner conflict.
’But I didn’t expose him. I wanted to see what he would do.’
’He’s lucky, though. In the end, he did nothing. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have minded sending him off to his next life.’
