Apocalypse Rebirth: Crazy from Day One

Chapter 364: What a Good Person

Chapter 364: Chapter 364: What a Good Person

Stella Sterling had assumed that when he said "a lot," he just meant a few pieces, or perhaps a few dozen at most.

After all, so few people were left in the city.

They scraped by each day, rummaging through the ruins for supplies.

It stood to reason that no one would bother with such worthless things.

After all, everyone was focused on food or other essential supplies.

The precious jewelry and ornaments that people once cherished and pursued were now completely worthless.

They had become so worthless that people wouldn’t even give them a second glance, just brush them aside.

However, Stella Sterling never imagined that when he said "a lot," he meant it. It was a staggering amount, packed into sack after sack.

When Stella Sterling followed the man to his home, she saw piles of items strewn carelessly on the floor like garbage.

There was jade, gemstones, gold, diamonds—all sorts of ornaments.

Even though they were caked with dirt and had lost their former luster, Stella Sterling’s eyes lit up the moment she saw them.

’This is good stuff. All of it! Especially the jade and gold, which are beneficial for my space.’

Right now, when she threw things into her space, there were no obvious direct benefits for her. However, she could feel that with every item she added, the landscapes within her space—the mountains and rivers—grew increasingly real.

She could now sense the world within her space becoming more and more like the real one.

It had mountains, rivers, and even a sky!

Recently, various animals had even started to appear within the space, showing signs of life.

Stella Sterling couldn’t help but recall what Andrew Shaw had said before—that the apocalypse wouldn’t end. Instead, it would only grow more severe, and humanity’s chances for survival would become increasingly slim.

The apocalypse hadn’t even ended by the time Andrew Shaw died. One could only imagine what things had devolved into since then.

’What will happen to the home we’re trying to survive in now?’

The current development of her space led Stella to consider another possibility.

’Could it be possible? As my space stabilizes and this world within it becomes more real, could it eventually become a place where humans can live?’

At this thought, Stella Sterling’s heart pounded with excitement, and her desire for these special materials intensified.

Because her space needed them.

’Even if things don’t turn out as I imagine, the future environment is only going to get crueler. I have to keep getting stronger to ensure I can live well and not end up like I did in my past life.’

That was why she truly loved these items, even more than she loved the sight of food.

In her past life, food had been what she cherished most. She had spent too many days starving, never knowing where her next meal would come from. Back then, food was everything.

But in this life, having returned early, she had made ample preparations. She had stockpiled massive amounts of food, so at the very least, she didn’t have to worry about going hungry.

She had also prepared plenty of seeds, which she planted in her space where they matured much faster than crops in the outside world.

Over the past few years, she had harvested one crop after another.

Now that her space had advanced, she could even raise animals. As that world became more realistic and more creatures came into being, it was safe to say she had no shortage of food at all.

This was why she could afford to take out her own collected supplies to help others.

And so, collecting these special materials was now her highest priority.

While she had been gathering food today, she had also been on the lookout for these materials, but she hadn’t found many.

She never expected this old man to give her such a wonderful surprise.

Just then, the old man’s voice piped up beside her. He chuckled and explained, "My house used to be right next to a gold shop and a jewelry store."

"So when the apocalypse started, I figured it’d be a waste to just leave all this stuff there, so I brought it all home."

"Back then, I thought the apocalypse would end someday. I figured this stuff would be valuable again, and I’d be rich. But it’s been almost four years now, with no end in sight. Eventually, I gave up on those unrealistic dreams."

"This stuff just ended up forgotten in a corner. Today, I was thinking I didn’t have anything else to repay your kindness with, so I decided to give them to you."

As he said this, he let out a few sheepish laughs, losing the venerable, dignified air he’d had earlier.

Stella Sterling smiled. ’This is what it means to be human,’ she thought. ’A normal person.’

If she were in his shoes, even without her space needing these materials, she would have done the same. If her house were next to a jewelry shop, she’d also think it better to save the goods than let them go to waste. Who knows, maybe she’d get a chance to strike it rich later.

"Thank you. I love these, and I really do need them."

However, the old man didn’t believe Stella Sterling. To him, these things were utterly worthless now.

’She’s probably just saying that so I don’t feel bad about it.’

This made him feel even more grateful toward the young woman. ’She’s so young, but her moral character is so noble.’

’She’s not the least bit selfish. It’s so rare to meet someone like her in the apocalypse.’

’This girl... she really is a great benefactor, just like she said.’

"We’re the ones who should be thanking you."

Seeing the genuine joy on her face, he felt happy as well. ’Even though this stuff isn’t worth anything now, maybe a young girl like her just likes pretty things.’

’In any case, it’s good that I could make her happy.’

Stella Sterling couldn’t just absorb the jewelry into her space in front of everyone.

She went to get her car and began loading the sacks of jewelry into it.

Seeing this, two of the younger men from the group of survivors came over to help her load the sacks.

As they worked, they thanked her profusely.

Once she was in the car, Stella Sterling asked casually, "I heard from Spike that there’s a hostile group causing trouble around here. Do you know their exact location?"

At her words, the expressions of the dozen or so survivors changed instantly. Their previous happiness vanished, replaced by looks of anger.

They had forgotten. They still had that huge problem to deal with.
