Chapter 410: Chapter 420: Everyone’s Having Illusions
"What are you doing here?"
Andrew Shaw stared at the two of them in shock. They weren’t far apart in age, and it was just after midnight—a time when everyone should be getting ready for bed.
Yet here was Felix Lawrence, a grown man, in Stella Sterling’s room.
’Something’s wrong. Very wrong!’
At that thought, his gaze toward Felix Lawrence immediately turned wary!
Seeing the look on his face, Felix Lawrence’s mouth twitched. This kid really didn’t act like a kid at all!
’And what’s with that look?’
’I, Felix Lawrence, am an absolute gentleman, all right? How could he look at me like I’m some kind of scoundrel?’
Felix Lawrence turned to Stella Sterling and said, "Miss Sterling, this subordinate of yours is really something else."
Felix Lawrence shook his head as he spoke!
Stella Sterling looked at Andrew Shaw. "He came to see me because he has something to discuss. Get your mind out of the gutter."
As she spoke, Stella Sterling shot him a warning glance.
Andrew Shaw’s expression changed in an instant. "Okay, okay, beautiful. I was just worried about you, wasn’t I? After all, he’s a grown man, and you’re a young woman. If something really happened, you’d be the one at a disadvantage."
"You’re going too far, little guy. I have a wife and a son!"
Andrew Shaw opened his mouth, about to retort. ’So what if he had a wife? He’s single now, and still in his prime. Faced with a beautiful woman like Stella Sterling, who knew if he might have some improper thoughts!’
But he closed his mouth and swallowed his words. Saying that out loud would undoubtedly be like twisting a knife in the man’s heart.
He’d been here for a while, and the man had treated him well. He just couldn’t bring himself to say something so cruel.
Besides, Stella Sterling’s warning gaze was still fixed on him, so he didn’t dare speak up.
So, he just scratched his head and kept his mouth shut.
After his initial surprise wore off, he realized things couldn’t possibly be as he’d imagined.
’Putting aside everything else, there was no way a woman like Stella Sterling would be interested in this bald guy. Besides, he remembered her saying she already had someone she liked!’
’Looks like I was overthinking things!’
Once he calmed down, Andrew Shaw thought for a moment and remembered why he’d come in the first place, and who Felix Lawrence was.
’As for why Felix Lawrence was here... he thought he understood now!’
Looking at them now, their expressions were relaxed and cheerful, as if nothing was wrong.
’Could it be they’ve already discussed it and come up with a solution?’
Stella Sterling frowned at him and said, "You still haven’t said why you’re here."
Andrew Shaw, now completely calm, shook his head. "Seeing this big bald guy here, I figured you must already know."
"But just in case I guessed wrong," he continued, sharing the news he’d gathered. "I just heard some people here saying that Sanctyr Base is looking for someone. I took a look at the portrait, and the person in it is you."
"What’s going on, beautiful? Did you get into some kind of trouble?"
’According to her previous plan, she wasn’t supposed to make a move on Sanctyr Base until her people arrived.’
’But now, people from Sanctyr Base were suddenly looking for her. Something must have happened to cause this!’
Hearing his question, Stella Sterling looked at him, displeased. "What do you mean, ’get into trouble’? I was punishing evil and upholding justice!"
Hearing Stella’s words, Andrew Shaw’s mouth twitched. "Yes, yes, beautiful, you’re right. It’s not called ’getting into trouble,’ it’s called ’punishing evil and upholding justice’!"
"That person must have done something terrible. Otherwise, a beautiful and kind-hearted person like you would never start trouble on your own!"
As he spoke, Andrew Shaw suddenly let loose another stream of flattery.
After this little interruption, and seeing Stella Sterling’s attitude, he suddenly felt relieved.
’What was there for me to be anxious about anyway? This woman is incredibly capable. Judging by her reaction, she wasn’t taking this matter to heart at all, so he could rest easy too!’
Felix Lawrence, who was standing to the side, listened to Andrew Shaw’s string of compliments, his expression growing even more peculiar.
’Where did this kid learn to be such a smooth-talker at his age?’
’He’s a real piece of work!’
A small smile played on Stella Sterling’s lips. She was just about to speak when she felt a sudden tremor from the space within her.
Her expression shifted subtly for a moment before immediately returning to normal.
She looked at the two of them and started shooing them out. "All right, I know what you both came to say. I have my own plans for this matter. It’s late and time for bed. You should both go back."
Felix Lawrence smiled, stood up, and took his leave.
’I’ve been bothering her for a while now. It’s time to go!’
Andrew Shaw, however, opened his mouth as if he had more to say, but after meeting Stella Sterling’s somewhat warning gaze, he shut his mouth, nodded, and left obediently.
After the two of them left, Stella Sterling immediately locked her door and vanished into her space, looking as if she couldn’t wait another second.
The door closed behind them.
Felix Lawrence rubbed his bald head in confusion. "Strange. Why do I get the feeling Miss Sterling was suddenly in a hurry, as if something happened?"
He shook his head as he spoke. ’We were all sitting there together just now, and Miss Sterling was fine. If something had suddenly happened, we couldn’t possibly have missed it. I must have imagined it.’
Andrew Shaw added, "You must have seen it wrong. She was probably just tired. We were all right there. If something had happened, wouldn’t we know?"
Felix Lawrence thought about it and agreed, so he shook his head and didn’t dwell on it.
As the two of them walked off together, Andrew Shaw suddenly stopped and wondered aloud in a low voice, "Why did I just smell barbecue and beer?"
As he spoke, Andrew Shaw trailed off. ’That woman is probably sneaking a feast all by herself!’
He couldn’t help but sigh mournfully at the thought. For the past few days, here at the bald guy’s place, he’d been eating and drinking with everyone else.
He could no longer feast on fine food and drink with Stella Sterling like before.
He was starting to miss the days when it was just the two of them alone in the car!
Hearing him, Felix Lawrence was also puzzled. "That’s weird, I smelled it too. Do you think... maybe we’re both having olfactory hallucinations because it’s been so long since we’ve had anything like that?"
Andrew Shaw realized he’d let that slip in front of Felix Lawrence and quickly nodded in agreement. "Yeah, yeah! I must be craving it so much that it’s happening to me too!"
